Chapter 1313 Don't Ever Try to Reconcile with My Mommy Again

By noon, Rosalind had whipped up a feast, but Joseph was still MIA.

"Think he's ditching lunch?" Rosalind whispered to Cassie.

Cassie shot a look at Mabel. "Mabel, you think Joseph's freaking out 'cause of that mess at the company today?"

"I'll give him a ring," Mabel said, looking uneasy. She pulled out her phone and dialed Joseph.

Soon enough, Joseph's deep voice came through, "Hey, Mom, what's up?"

"Joseph, I heard about the company drama. You took off this morning. Where'd you go? Aren't you coming back for lunch?" Mabel asked softly. "Don't stress too much. Your grandparents and I are cool with it. Even if we lose the Hernandez Group, we're still loaded."

"Mom, chill. I lost my memory, remember? How much could I care about the Hernandez Group? I've done my best. If it tanks, it tanks. Don't sweat it. I'm just grabbing lunch with a friend."

Joseph's laid-back tone calmed Mabel down. She was about to say something when a woman's cheerful voice piped up on the other end. "Mr. Hernandez, try this dish. It's amazing."

Mabel's face went stiff.

"Mom, gotta go. Still eating. Talk later."

Mabel looked at Cassie, feeling super awkward.

She hadn't expected Joseph to be out with another woman.

Didn't he know Cassie would be worried?

But even if he did, what difference would it make? Joseph was like a kid starting fresh, with no memory of the past.

He might not have feelings for Cassie anymore. His old attachment to her might've just been 'cause she was pretty and sweet. Like a baby bird latching onto the first person it sees. As he grew and learned more, he wouldn't lean on Cassie like before.

However, as a mom and a woman, she felt Joseph was being way too harsh on Cassie.

"What did he say?" Cassie's clear eyes were locked on her.

Mabel felt guilty. "He said he's having lunch with a friend. Don't worry, he's fine. He said he doesn't care much about the Hernandez Group and that he's done his best, so he's not too bummed."

She sighed after speaking.

Cassie thought she was mourning the loss of the Hernandez Group and said softly, "Mabel, Joseph's a business whiz. He can build a new Hernandez Group in the future."

"Yeah, let's eat." Mabel nodded.

She wondered who that woman was.

She'd have to talk to Joseph when he got back.

Cassie felt something was off with Mabel. Joseph didn't show up until dinner. It wasn't until ten at night that she heard a car outside after the kids had crashed.

She stood by the window and saw Joseph getting out of a sports car.

He seemed to sense something, looked up at her, gave a slight nod, and then headed to his room.

Cassie felt like she was worrying for nothing.

The next morning, during breakfast, Joseph came downstairs rocking black pants and a gray shirt, looking all mature and handsome.

"Daddy, breakfast is ready," Sophia said, her mouth full.

Mabel quickly chimed in, "Since you don't have much going on lately, take Sophia and Oliver to school after breakfast. You need to step up and take some responsibility for your kids."

Cassie stayed quiet, sipping her porridge.

Joseph shot her a quick glance and then smiled, "Alright, I'll take them to school. But I've got some stuff to handle today, so don't make me lunch today."

Mildred asked, "What are you busy with?"

Walter added, "Joseph, haven't you given up yet?"

"Please, don't worry about it. It's my business, and I need to find a way to make money," Joseph said, sitting next to Oliver and digging into breakfast.

Everyone exchanged looks, not sure what to say. After all, he had a point.

After breakfast, Cassie handed the backpacks to Joseph and reminded him, "Make sure to remind the teacher to have Sophia use the bathroom before her nap, so she doesn't wet the bed."

"Okay."

He took a deep breath, avoiding eye contact for too long. He grabbed the backpacks and led the kids out.

Back in her room, Cassie suddenly felt pretty bored.

On the way to school, the two kids sat in the back seat.

Joseph glanced at them. Ever since he found out they were his kids, he hadn't spent much time with them.

"You don't remember stuff with Mommy. Are you planning not to be with her anymore?" Oliver suddenly asked.

Joseph was taken aback. He saw Oliver's serious face in the rearview mirror, looking like a grown-up. "That's something between us adults."

"But we're your kids. We have the right to know," Oliver said, glancing at Sophia. "Right?"

"Yeah," Sophia said, munching on a donut with sugar all over her mouth. "If you're not gonna be with Mommy, you should say so. Don't waste her time."

"And don't try to get back with her later," Oliver huffed. "You're always back and forth. It's annoying!"

Joseph's face stayed calm. "Don't you want your parents to be together?"

"If you forgot Mommy, it means you don't like her anymore. No need to force it. I'll convince Mommy to move out of the Hernandez House. She shouldn't waste her time on you," Oliver said seriously.

Joseph sighed, "If she moves out, you won't see her every day. If you go with her, won't you miss your grandparents?"

"So what? We can spend a few days here and a few days there. It's not far," Sophia said, finishing her donut with a look of indifference.

Joseph didn't know what to say.

These two kids had quite the attitude.
