Chapter 1001 My Kidneys Weren't Good
"Even if you're feeling better, you still need to take your medicine later. Come here, let me braid your hair," Cassie said, picking up Sophia and starting to braid her hair.
After getting Sophia dressed, Cassie carried her out.
With Joseph not home, Cassie grumbled to herself, "Sophia's sick, and Joseph isn't even here early in the morning."
Just as she was about to open the fridge to make breakfast for Sophia, Joseph walked in from outside, wearing sweatpants, a white T-shirt, and running shoes. His handsome face was slightly flushed from exercise, and his damp hair clung to his forehead. The thin white T-shirt made his firm abs very noticeable.
Cassie sighed inwardly. 'Any photo of Joseph could be used for a sports brand ad and would definitely be a hit worldwide.'
But then she got inexplicably angry, thinking he still had the mood to go running.
"I went to buy some breakfast and took a run along the way," Joseph explained, putting the breakfast on the table.
"Sophia's sick, and you still have the leisure to go running. How carefree of you," Cassie remarked sarcastically.
"Isn't it because you're here? Besides, the doctor said I need to keep exercising to recover," Joseph explained in a low, helpless voice. He had just finished running, and his throat had a slight rasp, making his voice irresistibly sexy.
Cassie blushed, and Sophia innocently asked, "Why?"
Joseph quickly responded, "My kidneys aren't good. Sophia, let's have breakfast."
"Okay, I love sandwiches the most." Just as Sophia was about to take it, Cassie snatched it away and angrily glared at Joseph. "Are you kidding me? She's got a fever, and you also buy her fries? Do you want her to get worse?"
Joseph was stunned and quickly apologized, "I'm sorry."
"What's the matter with you?" Cassie started to scold him, and Joseph couldn't lift his head, only repeatedly apologizing.
Sophia looked at Joseph, who seemed like a guilty puppy from the neighbor's house, feeling very pitiful.
After scolding for over ten minutes, Cassie finally went to the kitchen to make oatmeal for Sophia.
Sophia looked at Joseph, whispering, "I don't want to have oatmeal."
Joseph whispered back, "Wait until Cassie leaves, and we'll go get something tasty."
"What are you two talking about?" Cassie turned around from the kitchen, her eyes fixing on them.
"Nothing." Sophia shrugged.
Joseph cleared his throat. "Sophia said she really likes the oatmeal you make."
Cassie rolled her eyes, thinking she was being fooled. Sophia didn't like it at all, but since she was sick, there was no choice.
She noticed Joseph and Sophia secretly exchanged a glance and then smiled at each other.
She sighed inwardly, "Although Sophia calls Joseph a jerk, a biological father is still different. Sophia and Oliver were always polite to David, but Sophia and Oliver both know that David is never their real dad."
After breakfast, Cassie drove away.
She had work at her company and couldn't stay with Sophia all the time.
"Joseph, I tried my best," Sophia said regretfully. "I can't stick to Cassie all the time. She has her own life, and it's not good for kids to lie all the time."
"Sophia, you've done great," Joseph reassured her. He knew tricking Cassie to come over last night was one thing, but what about tonight, and the night after? He had a headache.
Just then, Nathaniel brought him news. "Megan has hired Yugrot's top lawyer, Mark Thompson, to represent her case."
"Mark?" Joseph was surprised. Mark had a similar status in Madison's legal circles as he did. People like them weren't usually swayed by money. He didn't expect Megan to get Mark. It seemed he needed to reassess Megan.
"Mr. Hernandez, Mark is not only formidable but also very unscrupulous and vicious. We might not win easily." Nathaniel hesitated. "Could it be that Mr. Jude helped her find Mark?"
"The Jude family has cut ties with Michael. Mark wouldn't do him any favors." Joseph raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Don't worry. We are in Madison, not Yugrot. In Madison, the judges are more inclined towards me."
"But..." Nathaniel started.
"I'll ask Lucas," Joseph interrupted.
Michael eventually learned from Lucas that Megan had hired Mark to represent her. He was stunned for a moment. He had considered hiring Mark for Megan before, but Mark had declined, saying he didn't have time. Now, Megan had found him herself. Michael couldn't believe it, pondering, 'Does Megan have better connections than I?'
He quickly called Megan. "Megan, how did you get Mark?"
"A client I once treated was very grateful and introduced me to Mark. I only recently found out that Mark is a close friend of his." Megan's voice was incredibly charming, even with a hint of breathlessness.
Michael was momentarily dazed, thinking, 'Her voice sounds like she is making love. No, Megan isn't that kind of person.'
"Megan, what are you doing?" Michael asked.
"I'm running. Gotta go," Megan replied.
"Okay," Michael said.
As soon as the call ended, David pinned Megan down on the bed. Megan, in a good mood, wrapped her arms around his neck. "Mr. Foster, you're amazing. But coming here so early, aren't you afraid Cassie will find out?"
"Cassie?" David's eyes flashed with malice. "She went to Joseph's place last night and lied to me that she was working late."
"Really? Then she might be even more dissolute than me." Megan laughed softly.
"Yeah, she's a bitch. One day, I'll make her wish she was dead," David's refined face was filled with hatred, but moments later, he smiled. "Let's not talk about her. Come on, let's continue."
"You're so bad," Megan said.
In the office, Michael was lost in thought. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in." Michael thought it was his secretary, but it was Laura, whom he hadn't seen in days. She was wearing flat shoes and a fresh blue floral dress. Her lower body didn't show much, but her upper body had curves, and her waist was slender, not showing any signs of pregnancy, with two EchoReach bodyguards following her.
This scene made Michael very upset.
