Chapter 141
""Let's get back to the matter at hand,""
Joseph Hernandez’s handsome face returned to its stoic and indifferent state.
""Your Honor, Alexander was not only involved in substituting substandard electrical wiring in the Lublin Hotel , but he also used inferior waterproofing materials. Similar incidents have occurred not just with the Anderson family projects but also in villas, museums, and clubs he has renovated.""
""You're talking nonsense; I've never done such things!"" Alexander yelled, shaking his head—no, it couldn't be that everything was uncovered.
""Yet, the property owners have reported numerous issues post-renovation, like leaks and power outages. Your Honor, these are videos recorded by the owners themselves.""
Joseph Hernandez submitted another memory card as evidence.
""Moreover, the construction projects he was involved in cut corners with shoddy material; in several buildings, tiles even fell off the walls, injuring people. But with Alexander's deep pockets and influence behind him, the victims were quietly compensated — minimally, and the incidents were swept under the rug.""
When homeowners began testifying in videos, it was almost enough to bring Alexander to his knees. All those people had worked with him.
But he had been careful in covering his tracks, so confident that his deeds would never come to light.
How could someone do this? Was he even human?
He felt an overwhelming fear and despair.
He had never felt such regret as he did at that moment.
Or rather, he hadn't imagined Cassie would know people like this.
Looking at Cassie, he saw her as his salvation, losing all his former bravado, ""Cassie, I beg you, have mercy on me. I was wrong to have wronged you in the past. I'm your cousin, for heaven's sake. We're family.""
But Cassie felt nothing but disgust, replying icily, ""When you were harming me, you didn't think of me as your cousin. Besides, what goes around comes around. It's time you got what you deserve for all the wrong you've done.""
After her statement, she turned to Sam, ""Mr. Anderson, I take responsibility for the issues with the hotel. I should not have trusted Height Company and should have never let you sign a contract with them. I'm prepared to resign. I couldn't stand by and watch Alexander profit off subpar materials at your expense. I even raised concerns to the executives at Height Company, but everyone turned a blind eye. They... they even told me to get lost.""
She cast a mocking glance at the pale-faced Robert.
Sam, infuriated, slammed his hand on the table, ""Robert, you thought you could pull one over on me? You and I have a score to settle now.""
Robert nearly passed out, not having anticipated that he would end up severely offending the Anderson family. But his immediate concern was to avoid implicating himself at all costs.
""Mr. Anderson, I swear on my honor, I was clueless. Since Cassie and Alexander have been at odds for some time, I thought she was stirring up trouble over a personal vendetta.""
Robert looked desperately at Alexander, pleading, ""Right?""
""Yes, it was all done behind my uncle's back,"" Alexander mumbled with gritted teeth, his head bowed. With the Brooks family still untouched on the outside, there had to be a way they could save him.
Joseph Hernandez withdrew his gaze and addressed the presiding judge, ""Alexander's misdeeds don't end here. During the time Cassie was slanderously held at the police station, he also hired a criminal inside to try and kill her—there is evidence of this as well.""
Alexander's head jerked up in a moment of stark realization as he locked eyes with Joseph Hernandez. It was as if he had come face to face with the devil himself, a shiver coursing through his frame with unrelenting intensity.
His life was over, that much he knew.
With finality in his voice, Joseph Hernandez said, ""Your Honor, I rest my case.""
The judge proceeded to deliver a swift and irrevocable judgment: Alexander was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, stripped of his civic rights forever."
