Chapter 1086 Joseph Had A Chance
When Cassie had just entered the bathroom, Joseph lowered his voice and asked Oliver and Sophia seriously, "What exactly did Mummy say to you guys just now?"
Joseph felt pressured that Cassie didn't agree to get back together but agreed to be with him.
After all, his illness wasn't cured yet.
Oliver glanced at his expectant eyes. "It's a secret."
"Yeah, a secret." Sophia nodded. "And I already told you earlier."
"It can't be just that." Joseph took out two small pieces of chocolate from his pocket. "Tell me, and I'll reward you."
"Give both to me. Oliver wants to keep it a secret. I'll tell," Sophia swiftly took the chocolate, fearing Oliver might take one piece from her.
Oliver was helpless, thinking, 'Sophia just said it is a secret, and now she betrays for chocolate. Why did I have such an unambitious sister?'
Sophia unwrapped the chocolate and said while biting, "Mommy said, even if she gets back together with you, she doesn't plan to get married, so don't even think about marriage."
"Really?" Joseph was stunned.
He couldn't tell if he was excited or depressed.
However, it meant Cassie wasn't as resistant to Joseph as before, and they could still get back together.
Joseph seemed to see hope. His eyes brightened. He didn't expect Cassie to have such thoughts about him.
Sophia nodded and waved her hand. "Go ahead and pursue her boldly, but Mommy said she doesn't plan to have more kids, you know."
"I understand." Joseph looked at Sophia approvingly. "Sophia, you're great."
"Your chocolate is great, too. You can bribe me with this next time." Sophia happily unwrapped the other piece.
Oliver stood by, speechless, watching them.
Oliver thought to himself, 'Sophia is lying. When did Mommy say those things? Forget it. If Mummy scolded Sophia, I wouldn't help her.'
Cassie came out of the bathroom after her bath and found her undergarments were also wet.
Sophia and Oliver took the hairdryer in the bathroom to dry their hair, so she had to open a crack in the door and call out softly, "Sophia."
"Sophia and Oliver went downstairs," Joseph's tall figure approached, his gaze falling on her barely visible shoulder behind the door. "What's wrong?"
"Give me the hairdryer," Cassie felt uneasy under his gaze and instinctively closed the door a bit more.
"Why are you hiding? I bathed you a few days ago." Joseph raised an eyebrow with deep eyes. "Why do you need the hairdryer? Didn't I give you clean clothes?"
He even brought new underwear.
"None of your business." Cassie glared at him. "Are you getting it or not?"
"I'll get it since you asked." Joseph smiled and quickly handed over the hairdryer.
Cassie took it and slammed the door shut.
She used the hairdryer for a long time but found her bra was too wet to dry.
In the end, she had to dry her hair and go out. Considering Joseph was a man, she awkwardly used dirty clothes to cover her chest.
Joseph took one look and quickly understood, laughing. "Since we're so familiar, why be so shy?"
"Do you think I'm as shameless as you," Cassie grumbled, "Help me get a jacket from Mabel; I can't go back like this."
Even Cassie avoided the Hernandez family; the Chapman family still had Aiden and the servants so that it would be inappropriate.
"It's so late, don't go back. Stay and sleep with Sophia and Oliver tonight. If you leave, they'll be unhappy." Joseph reached out to her. "You sleep here. I'll hang your clothes to dry."
"No, staying here is worse," Cassie said irritably, "David and I haven't divorced yet, how could I stay here?"
Joseph smirked. "No one would think we're innocent, right? Don't forget, on the day you were discharged, you kissed me in front of the reporters. Do you care about public opinion? Besides, what does it matter if others see?"
Cassie frowned. "But..."
"No buts. Listen to me, if you leave tonight, Sophia will definitely cry. Besides, you're Sophia and Oliver's mother. You can't just leave them with me," Joseph interrupted her ruthlessly
Cassie was frustrated. "When did I neglect them?"
"Then tell me, how long has it been since you had a meal with them, told them a story, or slept with them?" Joseph asked.
Cassie was speechless, feeling ashamed.
Joseph became serious. "Cassie, I've wanted to tell you this for a long time. You say you want to investigate Arthur's death, so you risk staying with David. Have you thought about what David would do if he found out the truth? Have you considered Sophia and Oliver? Do you think that since they have me as their father, even if you're gone, they won't be uncared for?"
Cassie bit her lip, admitting that because Joseph was there, she could do many things without worry, even disregarding her safety at times.
"Exactly." Joseph could tell from her expression. "Cassie, you overestimate me. If one day you're gone, do you think I would still have the heart to take care of Sophia and Oliver?"
"Joseph, weren't you happy to have Sophia and Oliver? Since you have them, you should cherish them and fulfill your responsibilities," Cassie said helplessly.
"I'm happy to have them because they are your children," Joseph said seriously, "If you die, I would probably drown myself in alcohol every day. I wouldn't even want to stay sober. How could I take care of them?"
"You!" Cassie was both angry and had an indescribable feeling.
"Cassie, I'm reminding you, the truth can be investigated, but cherishing your life is most important," Joseph said sternly, "You are responsible for Arthur's death, but you don't have to bear it all. It was his poor judgment to work for a devil. If you put Arthur's matter first, how sad would Sophia and Oliver be if they knew?"
