Chapter 357
"I'll do it myself," Cassie murmured, a tad uncomfortable with his attentiveness, and took her toothbrush into the bathroom.
Gazing at her disheveled reflection in the mirror, she suddenly felt a sense of alienation and daze wash over her.
Nowadays, she couldn't even control her fate.
Was she supposed to give up on herself and live a life of depravity?
No, she couldn't allow that.
If she wasn't afraid of death, what else was there to fear?
As long as she was still breathing, she'd resist this man's will.
When she emerged, Joseph's eyes fell on her again, sensing something different about her. "We can go shopping today or take a vacation, whatever you prefer."
"I'm going to the office," Cassie declared, striding toward the closet to pick out a professional women's suit.
Joseph stared at the gauze on her face, his expression a mix of confusion and concern. "Are you planning to go to the office like that?"
"What? Do you think I'll scare someone?" Her gaze was dark and steady as if she wasn't talking about herself.
Joseph frowned, pausing before finally responding. "As you wish."
It was better for her to find something to do than to languish at home in despair.

At ten in the morning
Cassie stepped out of the elevator at the Peace Group headquarters, her slender frame as imposing as ever in a chic light brown business suit.
Normally, her silhouette alone could grace the cover of fashion magazines, but today, the gauze on her face drew odd glances from the employees.
Yet no one dared to ask her anything directly.
Only after she had passed did whispers begin to circulate.
"Did Miss Brooks have a plastic surgery mishap?"
"Are you clueless? She got caught as the other woman and was beaten up by Luna."
"No way! She's got so much money. Why would she still play the other woman?"
"I heard she's an illegitimate child, her mother broke up someone's marriage, and now she's seducing her sister's fiancé. Talk about having no morals."
"Really? How do you know all this?"
Cassie's voice suddenly cut through from behind, making the employees jump in fright.
"Miss Brooks, I didn't expect you to be back so soon."
"Do I owe you an explanation for my return? Answer me," Cassie demanded, her gaze icily commanding.
"A flyer was posted at the entrance this morning; many saw it," the woman stammered apologetically, "I'm sorry, Miss Brooks, it won't happen again."
"You said I was devoid of morals. People like me probably have a bad character, so why should I keep you around? It's not the holidays. Pack your things and leave." Cassie turned and walked into her office.
After pressing the intercom, her assistant Coco entered with a peculiar look in her eyes.
"Did you take care of the flyer at the entrance?" Cassie cut straight to the chase.
