Chapter 383
"Undeniably, the woman's name is Isabella, and her progeny is the chairwoman of the Peace Group. I even have photographic evidence." With these words, the internet was set ablaze as images of Isabella and Cassie circulated, causing a significant uproar.
In the midst of the turmoil, Cassie received a distressing call from her company. Their social media platforms were inundated with disparaging comments, and the board members were frantically demanding an emergency meeting.
"I'll make my way to the office immediately..." Cassie managed to utter, her voice trailing off as her phone was abruptly seized from her grasp.
Joseph commandeered the device, his voice authoritative as he issued a directive, "This is Joseph. I will manage the Peace Group predicament. Refrain from contacting her and exacerbating her stress."
Once his decree was made, he nonchalantly discarded the phone.
"Joseph, what on earth?" Cassie's stomach churned with frustration, "You're already neck-deep in your own troubles. Can't you refrain from interfering?"
"You're in no condition to vacate the hospital," Joseph retorted, his gaze tender yet his tone unyielding.
"But I can't stand idly by as my mother's reputation is tarnished online," Cassie protested, her eyes welling up with tears, "She's been gone for over two decades, yet her memory is still being desecrated."
Tears cascaded down her cheeks.
She was consumed with self-reproach. "This is all my fault, I'm utterly useless. I couldn't avenge her, and now she can't even rest in peace."
This was no mere coincidence; it was a calculated scheme devised by Luna and her offspring.
"Cassie, don't weep," Joseph implored, encircling her waist with his arms and tenderly kissing the tears from her face. "I have people managing the online situation, and I've set everything in motion. The more aggressively they attack now, the more devastating their downfall will be tomorrow."
Cassie recoiled from his kiss, her tear-laden eyelashes fluttering with uncertainty, "What are you scheming?"
"I can't reveal it just yet, it's a secret. You'll find out tomorrow," Joseph reassured her, gently brushing a stray lock of hair from her forehead. "Let me feed you first."
He promptly fetched a bowl of freshly prepared soup.
Blowing on it gently to cool it, he patiently fed her spoonful by spoonful.
With each spoonful, he gazed at her with an unwavering intensity, as if he could never tire of her visage.
However, Cassie couldn't bear it. She had glimpsed her reflection and knew she wasn't attractive. She couldn't fathom how this man wasn't repulsed after all these days.
"I can manage on my own..." she objected.
"Absolutely not. Lucas mentioned that your stomach is still delicate. The soup needs to be just the right temperature, and you're always careless," Joseph insisted, continuing to feed her.
Cassie was at a loss for words. Joseph had transformed into the epitome of a gentleman.
Yet, she couldn't shake the nagging feeling that he would eventually tire of her countenance.
...
The following morning, Cassie awoke to find Joseph's side of the bed empty.
At precisely nine o'clock, Rosalind switched on the television, and Joseph's face immediately filled the screen in a live interview.
It was his inaugural public appearance. He was ensconced in a lounge, impeccably dressed in a costly silver-gray pinstripe suit that accentuated his flawless physique. His striking features were sharp and defined, with long eyelashes and a straight nose – the embodiment of elegance and nobility.
He faced the viewers, his deep-set eyes shimmering like a constellation of stars.
Cassie watched, utterly captivated by Joseph's stunning appearance on the screen, unable to tear her gaze away.
She wasn't the only one—the viewers were equally mesmerized.
Although people were aware that Joseph, from the esteemed Hernandez family, was blessed with good looks, no one anticipated that a man could be so infuriatingly handsome.
The interviewer began, "It's a rare privilege to have Joseph accept our interview invitation. I've attempted to schedule this many times before, only to be declined. You seem to shy away from the public eye. What prompted you to agree this time?"
