Chapter 1034 She Felt Embarrassed

Kayla put on her hat and sunglasses, transforming into someone else.

"Kayla," Cassie said, standing up and clenching her fists. "I'll find out the truth. If Arthur was murdered, I won't let the killer get away."

"Thank you. Don't let Arthur's last words be in vain." Kayla turned back with a sorrowful smile and left.

Cassie sat in the booth for a long time.

Even though it was warm, she felt incredibly cold.

'Kayla's right,' she thought. 'What if Arthur's death wasn't an accident? He came from David's company to see me. Why did he come to see me? Why, after the crash, didn't he try to escape or call for help, but instead sent me a warning text? The message must be important, but he didn't finish it before the car caught fire. He threw his phone out with all his might, trying to convey that message until his last moment. Is the unfinished message about David or someone else whose name start with D. Arthur worked for David. Maybe he discovered some secrets about David or the Foster family and wanted to tell me, but then the accident happened. Maybe it was an accident, or maybe Arthur was silenced. If it was the former, it's too coincidental. If it was the latter, it's terrifying. In any case, Arthur was also a member of the Foster family.'

Cassie took a deep breath, trying to stay calm.

She had to find out the truth and avenge Arthur. After all, his death was somewhat related to her.

When Cassie returned to David's villa, it felt cold and eerie.

She recalled what Joseph had said.

'Did I really know David? Mabel and Marcus had known each other since college and were deceived for thirty years before discovering the true nature of a person. I  had only known David for four years, and we weren't even together all the time.'

At ten o'clock in the evening, David came back, exhausted. She had seen him countless times in the past few days, looking heartbroken over Arthur's death, even losing his usual neat appearance, now sporting stubble and looking more disheveled.

"Cassie, you're still up?" David was surprised to see her sitting on the living room sofa, as she was usually in the bedroom by this time.

"I can't sleep," Cassie said, pretending to be listless but discreetly observing him.

She noticed that his shirt seemed to have been changed since he left in the morning.

Thinking back, there had been a few times like this before, but she hadn't paid attention.

David rubbed his temples. "Sorry, I haven't been able to spend much time with you these days. Arthur's death left a lot of work at the company unattended."

"It's okay," Cassie said. "How's the investigation into Arthur's accident going? Did the car manufacturer admit fault?"

"The police have the car's data. It was a system failure. The manufacturer wants to settle with compensation, but I didn't get involved. After all, Kathleen and Kyle are still around. It's up to them."

David said in a helpless tone, "Kyle never really cared about Arthur. He'll probably take the money and settle."

"What a pity," Cassie said sadly. "I've been thinking these past few days, why didn't Arthur escape quickly after the crash? If he had, he wouldn't have been burned to death."

"The police said he was trapped after the crash and couldn't get out," David sighed. "The dead can't come back to life. Don't dwell on it too much. We have to move forward. By the way, I heard that on the day Arthur died, Kathleen came to the company with a knife looking for you, and then Joseph showed up."

"Yeah, I don't know how he got there," Cassie explained.

"Don't worry. I'm not that petty. I heard that if he hadn't pushed you away, you might have been stabbed by Kathleen. You're all my family. If something like that happened, I'd be very upset." David stepped forward and held her hand, his eyes filled with deep emotion.

In the past, Cassie would have felt guilty, but today, her heart felt cold.

'Was this his true self, or was there a stranger behind those affectionate eyes?'

"It's all in the past. You're tired too. Let's go to bed early." Cassie turned and walked upstairs.

David suddenly called out to her, "By the way, are you free the day after tomorrow? Marigold is hosting a birthday party, and Mrs. Dixon invited me to bring you along. The Dixon family has a special status, and it's hard for me to refuse."

"Okay, I'll go with you." Cassie nodded.

Maybe by attending more events like this, she could learn more about David's character.

The next day, she got a call from Sophia. "Mommy, do you still remember me and Oliver?"

"I'm sorry, Sophia. I've been busy lately." Cassie felt guilty. She hadn't been paying much attention to Sophia and Oliver because of Arthur's situation.

Of course, she felt more at ease now, probably because she knew that Joseph was also taking care of Sophia and Oliver.

Sophia sighed. "I'm just kidding. I heard from Daddy that you recently lost a friend and are feeling down. I don't blame you."

"Thank you for understanding, Sophia," Cassie said with a smile.

"But you have to come pick us up tonight and have dinner and go swimming with us," Sophia said.

"Swimming?"

"Yes, Oliver and I want to go swimming, but Daddy said you have to come. He's afraid he can't handle both of us swimming alone," Sophia said.

Cassie admitted that Joseph had a point, but the thought of wearing a swimsuit and swimming with Joseph made her feel a bit embarrassed.

"Dinner is fine, but I might need to think about swimming."

"No. I want to swim. If you don't agree, I'll cry," Sophia threatened angrily.

Cassie had a headache and decided to discuss it when they met in the afternoon.

Around four in the afternoon, as she was about to pick them up, Joseph called and said he would pick up Sophia and Oliver, and she could meet them at the restaurant.

Cassie readily agreed, finding it more convenient not to pick them up herself.

Thinking about it now, it was quite beneficial for Sophia and Oliver to recognize Joseph.

The restaurant Joseph chose was in a secluded area, with a quiet and spacious environment.

When she arrived, Sophia and Oliver were playing with remote control cars in the yard, while Joseph sat on a chair, surrounded by blooming red flowers. He wore gray pants and an orange shirt, his bright attire complementing his refined appearance. Even the flowers seemed to lose their color in his presence.
