Chapter 772

"Joseph, I didn't mean to deceive you on purpose. I was forced to do it. Rex was one of the kidnappers who took me in Austin before. It was a very painful experience for me. I'm no longer a virgin, and Rex reappeared like a devil. He said he had embarrassing photos and videos from my past. I was scared you would hate me if you found out. I gave him money, but it wasn't enough. He wanted me to be with him."

Megan crouched down, crying in agony. "I feel so disgusted. Whenever Rex touches me, I feel like throwing up. Joseph, I was mistaken. I'm sorry, but it wasn't deliberate. I love you, but it seems like you always detest me; even a gentle touch from me makes you feel sick. I'm scared you'll hate me even more after seeing the photos."

"Get up."

Joseph reached out to help Megan up.

Megan suddenly threw herself into Joseph's arms, crying loudly, "Joseph, don't leave me. Without you, I'll die."

Joseph's body stiffened.

In fact, before releasing Megan on bail, the police had already informed Joseph of these things.

Joseph blamed Megan for her foolishness. When she was threatened, Megan should have confided in him.

Megan's tears made Joseph realize that maybe his hesitation to touch her had contributed to her growing insecurity.

Joseph didn't blame Megan as before, but he still felt uncomfortable somehow.

He even wanted to push Megan away.

"Megan, calm down. Let's go back to Seaside Haven," Joseph helped Megan into the car.

Nathaniel was driving in front.

During the journey, Megan rested against Joseph's chest, repeatedly reassuring him, "Joseph, Rex is gone. I won't do anything to harm you again. We're even now. Didn't you spend the night at Cassie's a few days ago? I know everything. You stayed at Cassie's place twice."

Joseph suddenly felt a bitter.

Joseph claimed his love for Megan, yet he had relations with Cassie. And Megan, who claimed to have loved him for over a decade, was in bed with another man just before their wedding.

For the first time, Joseph felt confused about their relationship.

Could he really stay with Megan? Didn't this type of relationship repulse him?

"Joseph, please say something. I beg you. I'm so scared of you being like this," Megan choked up again, at a loss.

"Megan, seriously, is Rex's death related to you?" Joseph stared at her as if trying to see through her.

Trembling, Megan said, "Rex was shot dead. I don't have the means to locate his killer. If I did, I would have taken care of him myself instead of being threatened by him for so long.""

Joseph remained silent, pursing his lips, choosing not to speak.

Megan continued, "Rex did a lot of heinous crimes abroad. After returning, he kept gambling and doing drugs. He had too many enemies."

"Alright, I got it," Joseph finally spoke, then turned to the window.

As Megan gazed at Joseph's handsome profile, she felt a sense of relief, though doubts lingered in her mind. Who had disposed of Rex's body, and who was targeting her?

Megan had no answers, but she was grateful that Joseph chose to trust her.

Upon arriving at Seaside Haven, Joseph escorted Megan inside, but when she saw the several suitcases already packed in the living room, Megan felt very uncomfortable.

"Joseph, what is this... Are we... going to move to a different place?"
