Chapter 1259 The Person I Love the Most
Joseph had just bailed from The Hernandez House when he hit up Joel. "Hang tight and sneak around Isaac's crib. Wait for my cue."
Joel was caught off guard. "You think something went down?"
"Yeah." Joseph kept it vague. "If you don't hear from me in half an hour, bust in."
"Got it." Joel picked up on Joseph's serious vibe. "Should I call the cops?"
"Nah, I think Richard Hernandez got snatched." Joseph figured Isaac's earlier chat was sketchy as hell.
Even though Isaac was Walter's only kid, the Hernandez family heirloom never landed in his lap.
Isaac suddenly calling him over had to mean he was under some serious heat.
Joseph had a hunch about who might be leaning on Isaac.
Forty minutes later, he rolled up to Isaac's villa.
Yvonne and Isaac were in the yard, looking all kinds of nervous.
Isaac spoke up first, "Sorry, Joseph, for dragging you out here so late."
Joseph shot Isaac a cold stare, making him squirm. "Isaac, now that you've lured me here, spill the real reason."
Isaac's lips twitched with embarrassment, and Yvonne shot him a death glare, gritting her teeth. "Yeah, we tricked you, but our family's caught up in your mess with Cassie. Poor Richard's already lost it, and people still won't leave him alone."
Joseph got the picture. "Who did it?"
"David wants to see you." Isaac nodded towards the living room. "Relax, he didn't bring a crew, just a female secretary. Joseph, I don't know what he wants, but you gotta save Richard. That jerk tricked Richard out while we were out today."
Joseph frowned.
He couldn't figure out David's angle.
If David wanted to mess with him, why only bring two people?
What kind of game was David playing?
"You gotta save Richard. David's here because of you," Yvonne shouted, seeing Joseph's hesitation. "He probably just wants to talk. Just agree to whatever he says. Richard's already lost his mind; you can't let him lose his life too."
"Enough." Isaac cut her off.
"I'm doing this for Richard. If something happens to him, we're screwed too. I'm sick of all the Hernandez drama," Yvonne yelled, "Make him hand over his phone."
Isaac looked like he wanted to disappear. "Joseph, David's worried you'll record the convo, so he wants your phone."
Joseph's lips curled into a cold smile. 'Worried about recording? More like worried I'll call for backup.'
Seeing him hesitate, Isaac got desperate. "Joseph, I'm not lying. It's really just David and a secretary inside. I swear, he said if you don't do what he wants, Richard's gone for good."
Tears welled up in his eyes.
"Isaac, Richard's in this mess because of me. I get that. But this is the last time I'm bailing him out. I can't keep saving him forever." Joseph tossed his phone to Isaac.
Even though he had no clue what David was up to, Joseph knew Joel would bust in twenty minutes later, phone or no phone.
Ten minutes had already ticked by, and with Joel's skills, handling a dozen guys would be a piece of cake.
He finished talking and strolled into the villa.
As soon as he stepped in, the lights cut out, and the windows slammed shut, plunging the place into darkness.
He turned around, and the door behind him was locked tight.
Joseph's eyes flared with anger.
Isaac and his wife really went through with it.
At first, he thought taking his phone was just to stop him from calling for help. Turns out, it was to keep him from using it as a flashlight.
But who cares if he couldn't see? He could still figure out where people were by sound.
"David, you used to be a scumbag, but now you can't even turn on the lights. Is it 'cause you know you're up to no good and can't face anyone?" Joseph stood his ground, his voice dripping with sarcasm and disdain.
But no one answered.
Weird music started playing throughout the villa. It sounded oddly familiar, like he'd heard it somewhere before.
He listened closely, trying to remember, but his head suddenly pounded with pain.
Then, a light flickered on the second floor.
He moved towards the light, and another one popped up beside it, the two lights swaying and making him feel dizzy.
Joseph quickly caught on and shut his eyes.
Then, a hollow female voice echoed from the second floor. "Joseph, remember, Megan is the woman you love the most."
Joseph's head throbbed even more, like something was buzzing and splitting in his mind.
He thought, 'No way, that's not true. The person I love the most is Cassie, not Megan.'
"Megan, is this your doing?" Joseph stumbled in the dark towards the voice.
But no matter how he moved, he couldn't get closer. He even tripped over something and hit the ground.
The hollow voice continued, "The person you hate the most is Cassie. She seduced you."
It was like someone had thrown open the windows of his memory.
Joseph's head pounded violently.
The last bit of rationality made him realize David's true game.
Joseph didn't want to listen, but the voice seemed to have some kind of magic, drilling into his ears.
Not just that, but a bunch of his own voices started echoing in his mind.
These familiar yet strange voices from his past.
"Cassie, wanting a divorce? Fine, cook for me for three years, and I'll agree."
"Cassie, did you ever really love me?"
"You don't care, but I do, Cassie. I know you hate me, but what can I do? I feel like you played with me, but I can't let you go. I'm hooked on something called Cassie."
Who was speaking?
'No, I can't let this go on,' thinking this, Joseph stumbled in the dark towards the voice, but suddenly his foot slipped, and he tumbled down the stairs.
The voice abruptly stopped.
Back at the manor, Cassie was telling stories to the kids when she suddenly felt a wave of panic.
She was lost in thought until Sophia's voice snapped her back. "Mommy, keep going."
