Chapter 1143 How Dare You Hit Her
Michael was fuming, thinking, 'Am I really that bad? Guess I'm not good enough for Laura.'
While texting, he didn't see Caroline and bumped into her.
"Are you here to shop or play on your phone?" Caroline grumbled.
"Sorry, Mom." Michael quickly pocketed his phone and followed her gaze. "Mom, this dress looks great. The color suits you perfectly."
"No, I'm too old. This would look better on Laura," Caroline said.
Michael was surprised and took a closer look at the dress. It was a pale yellow shirt dress, perfect for Laura.
"Let's buy it," Michael said without thinking.
"Alright." Caroline nodded and reached for her card, but Michael stopped her. "Mom, when you're with me, you don't need to spend money. I'll deliver the dress to her later; I need to thank her anyway."
Caroline smiled. "You've never been this thoughtful. I'm glad you and Laura get along well like siblings."
Michael's mouth twitched. 'I don't want Laura to be my sister. But if she weren't, what would she be? A friend? My wife?'
He was shocked by his own thoughts.
After shopping and dropping Caroline off, he drove to Riverside Blossom to find Laura.
At 5 p.m., Laura was heading to the supermarket for snacks.
As she reached the entrance, Isla approached her. "Laura."
Seeing Isla soured Laura's mood.
Isla looked innocent, but Laura knew better.
"Laura, please spare the Hayes Group," Isla pleaded.
A crowd gathered, some looking at Laura like she was the villain.
Feeling unlucky, Laura tried to ignore Isla and walked around her.
But Isla grabbed her dress and fell to the ground.
Biting her lip, Isla cried, "Laura, if you spare the Hayes Group, I'll leave Benjamin. The Hayes Group is his hard work. Please give it a chance. I never meant to steal Benjamin from you. He thought you cheated and dumped him. We got together years after you broke up."
People started whispering.
"That's too much. She broke up first, had another man, and now wants to ruin her ex's company. How can someone be so cruel?"
"Exactly. It's been years, and she won't let him have a girlfriend. Now she wants to destroy his company. That's so mean."
"She looks tough. You can tell she's narrow-minded."
"I think she lives in Riverside Blossom, right?"
"Yeah, that's prime real estate. This poor girl is really unlucky to have crossed her."
"Young lady, get up. Don't stay on the ground," an older woman kindly said to Isla.
"Thank you, but if she doesn't spare my boyfriend, I can't get up," Isla cried. "Laura, I promise never to contact the Hayes family again. Please, I'm begging you."
"Isla, you're even more cunning than before," Laura fumed. Isla's few words made her look like the villain.
"I'm not in the mood for your performance. If you like kneeling, then kneel all you want," Laura said, pulling Isla's hand away.
Isla clung on, her eyes red from crying. "Laura, if you agree, I'll leave immediately. Or if you're still angry, I'll do whatever you want."
"Isla." A car screeched to a stop by the roadside. Benjamin ran out, saw the blood from Isla's fall, and anger surged within him. He rushed over and, seeing Laura's mocking face, slapped her. "You're so vicious."
Laura felt a burning pain on her face and in her head.
Looking at Benjamin's angry face, she felt a sense of déjà vu, but she was no longer the same person she was three years ago.
"Benjamin..." Before Laura could finish, a furious voice shouted, "Benjamin, how dare you hit her."
Michael, in a pink shirt, appeared not far away, carrying four paper bags. His eyes were wide with anger.
After shouting, he threw the bags aside.
Michael quickly rushed over and punched Benjamin in the face.
"Who do you think you are? You dare hit Laura? Do you know who she is? Whisperlyn City is my turf. How dare you hit my woman under my nose? You're asking for it." Though Michael wasn't particularly muscular, he often hung out with Joseph and Lucas, improving his fighting skills.
Benjamin, initially not bad himself, was at a disadvantage after Michael's first punch.
Moreover, Michael was ruthless and talkative.
Soon, Benjamin's handsome face was swollen and bruised, with multiple injuries on his body.
Laura was stunned. She had no idea how Michael suddenly appeared.
She thought, 'Why is he acting like a maniac? I just got hit once; does he really need to be this worked up?'
She couldn't believe that the usually pitiful Michael, always being teased by Megan, could fight so fiercely.
But she felt quite satisfied watching it.
Three years ago, Laura had also gone to the Hayes Group to confront Isla. Back then, Benjamin had slapped her. Although Elliott had arrived later, he was too calm and mature, only scolding Benjamin a bit before taking her away.
Michael was different from Elliott. He was always arrogant and never considered things as much as Elliott did.
