Chapter 1307 She Ran Away

"Yeah. Let Ralph wait a bit longer," David muttered under his breath.

"Gotcha. Oh, and my dad said to stop messing with Everett. The more you push Declan, the nastier he'll get overseas. Declan's a real piece of work, not your average Joe," Marigold warned before heading out.

In the hospital room, David stared at his phone.

Backing down wasn't an option now. Isabella was his only shot. Meanwhile, Isabella, after getting her shot, felt super groggy.

Just as she was about to drift off, she felt someone gently stroking her hair.

"Isabella, I'm sorry. I hate doing this to you. It kills me to see you like this. But I don't have a choice. I think if you were awake, you wouldn't want to see yourself like this either. You gotta be strong."

It was Declan's voice. Isabella didn't catch the rest. Her heart was burning with hatred.

Saying it kills him to see her like this—who put her in this mess?

It was Declan.

She never thought he could be so heartless. These days, he kept her locked up here, pretending it was for her illness.

But she wasn't sick at all. He wanted to drive her nuts.

Living in a crazy place like Neya City, she'd seen all kinds of shady stuff.

But she never thought the one doing all this would be her own husband.

Isabella was in agony, feeling like she was losing her mind.

The pain was so bad it made her black out.

When she came to, a nurse was drawing her blood. Seeing her awake, the nurse quickly slipped a note into her hand.

Isabella was stunned for a second but stayed still.

After the nurse left, she turned over and opened the note: Declan locked Olivia up, and when she tried to escape, she fell out the window and died.

She thought, 'Olivia is dead? My daughter is dead?'

Even though she hadn't known Olivia for long, she was still her biological daughter.

She hadn't been a mother to her, and now Olivia was gone.

Olivia had gone through so much to find her, only to be killed by Declan.

Why? Why did it have to be this way?

Olivia came to her, and as a mother, she couldn't protect her and even got her killed.

Declan, you're so cruel.

A thought flashed through her mind, 'I have to escape and see Olivia one last time.'

The next night.

When the doctor came in to give Isabella her usual sedative shot, everyone thought she was about to crash. Suddenly, she knocked out the doctor and the guard at the door, then escaped by sliding down the exterior wall pipe.

When Declan rushed over, he only saw the doctor and the guards standing outside, looking guilty.

"I'm sorry, Declan," the head guard said, hanging his head in shame. They were top experts from the Jude family and thought watching over a woman would be a piece of cake. But they didn't expect five burly men to let a woman escape.

As Declan's wife and the ruler of Emerald Haven Island, Isabella was no joke. She had been meticulously trained by the previous ruler of Emerald Haven Island, and her combat skills were better than those of the guards.

Declan shot a frosty look at the doctor. "Hasn't she been taking her meds and getting her shots every day? How the hell does she still have the strength to fight back?"

"I don't know," the doctor stammered. "Logically, it shouldn't be possible."

Declan's icy gaze swept over the doctors and nurses. "I don't want your excuses. If the meds aren't working, there are only two reasons: either she powered through it with sheer will, or the meds you gave her are crap."

The doctor was sweating bullets. "The meds have been working all along. They couldn't just stop unless it's the second reason."

"Since this hospital comes highly recommended by Carl, you better live up to his trust. I want answers by dawn."

Declan turned and walked away without a backward glance.

His assistant quickly followed. "Mr. Wittelsbach, should we get Mr. Jude to help us find her?"

"No need. I know where she's headed."

Declan strode to the car.

An hour later, the car pulled up at the mortuary.

Declan walked into the memorial hall and saw Isabella with her back to him, clutching an urn. She was still in her white hospital gown.

Helen was crying and wiping her tears. "Why are you here? You've ruined us all. If I had known, I wouldn't have let Olivia reunite with you. Finding out her identity and reuniting with you cost her her life. Olivia, you poor thing."

Isabella held the urn tightly, tears of guilt and pain streaming down her face. She still couldn't accept it. "Is she really dead?"

"I wish it were a lie, but I personally sent her in for cremation," Helen sobbed. "Robert wanted to wait for you, so she was kept in cold storage until yesterday. But Declan kept pressuring us and even threatened to desecrate Olivia's body, so we had to cremate her."

"I sent people to desecrate her body?" Declan's cold voice suddenly echoed in the memorial hall.

Helen was startled and quickly hid behind Isabella. "What do you want now?"

Seeing Helen's frightened look, Isabella turned around and looked at Declan's tall and still handsome face. Her eyes were filled with undisguised hatred. "Declan, we've been married for twenty years. Why do you do this to me and my family? I can accept that you like other women. But what did Olivia do wrong? What did Robert and Helen do wrong?"

"Because he wants to take over your assets," Helen said boldly. "He locked you up and sued Robert in your name to get back the money you gave Olivia, claiming it was marital property. Robert and I don't care about the money. We just can't stand him protecting Cassie. It's so unfair to you."

"Shut up!" The assistant couldn't take it anymore and shouted angrily, "It's clearly you and Robert who are greedy. Olivia isn't even Mrs. Wittelsbach's daughter. It was all your family's scheme."
