Chapter 956 You're a Commoner, I'm a Noble

Cassie had agreed to move in with David, but she hesitated right after.

"You can't take Sophia to live with David." Seeing Cassie's hesitation, Joseph got agitated.

Cassie sighed. "Fine."

Joseph wasn't relieved. Cassie's expression said it all.

"You still want to be with David?" Joseph was incredulous. "You've been with me for so long, and you still won't divorce David? Or is it that David doesn't want to?"

Cassie's cheeks turned red. She thought, 'Joseph is shameless.'

"Joseph, who I want to be with is none of your business. Before, you could be arrogant, and we couldn't do anything about it, but now your Hernandez House isn't even as good as the Peace Group. Your worth doesn't even compare to mine; you're not worthy of me now," Cassie said coldly.

In the past, Joseph looked down on Cassie, always thinking she wanted to climb up to the Hernandez family. Now, the tables had turned.

Sure enough, Joseph's face turned sullen.

Joseph could ignore Keith's disdain and others' sarcastic remarks, but he couldn't bear what Cassie had said.

Joseph was proud, but now his status was even lower than Cassie's, and he was even less than his rival David.

Joseph felt very sad, as he never thought he would be reduced to such a situation.

"And," Cassie coldly reminded Joseph, "Even though Lucas and the others bailed you out, the matter of you kidnapping me isn't over. The police have been calling me to give a statement. If I tell them you kidnapped and assaulted me, at the very least, you'd be in jail for a few years. By the time you get out, the gap between us will be even bigger. Remember, you're a commoner, and I'm a noble."

"You want to send me to jail yourself?" Joseph's body shook, his face full of pain.

"If you dared to do it, there's no need to be afraid. Within three days, I want Liam to appear in front of me, or don't blame me for being ruthless," Cassie said, turning away.

Joseph suddenly grabbed Cassie's wrist and pinned her against the wall, his deepeyes staring into hers.

"Cassie, Liam is important to you, David is important to you, even Sophia is important to you. But what about me? Do I really have no place in your heart? Am I not special to you at all?" Joseph's hoarse voice revealed a rare sadness.

Maybe it was because of recent events that the strong Joseph showed a hint of vulnerability.

Cassie was momentarily dazed but quickly pushed Joseph away.

"Joseph, you used to be important to me, but after what happened with Spencer, you don't anymore. Please remember what I said; I'm serious," Cassie left without looking back.

Joseph didn't chase after her. He leaned against the wall, looking up at the ceiling. For some reason, his eyes stung painfully.

Joseph was so tired. At this moment, he really wanted Cassie to stay with him.

As long as Cassie was there, Joseph would fight to get back on his feet, even if he had nothing. But without Cassie, he felt like he had lost his motivation.

Of course, Joseph also understood that he was no longer worthy of Cassie.

Cassie walked out of the elevator, and beside her, Nathaniel also came down from another elevator and quickly caught up. "Ms. Brooks, I'd like to talk to you."

Cassie stopped. "Nathaniel, what do you want to say?"

Nathaniel awkwardly said, "Actually, I overheard some of your conversation with Mr. Hernandez in the office. I want to ask you not to continue pressing charges against Mr. Hernandez, okay?"

Cassie frowned. If it were anyone else, she would have refused without hesitation, but she didn't refuse directly, as Nathaniel had been kind to her.

"Nathaniel, Joseph is a devil. I just want to start a new life with David, but Joseph destroyed it and made it public, ruining my reputation. Do you know how many people are mocking David and me out there? I'm not just doing this for myself; I need to think about David, too," Cassie explained.

"If you really sue Mr. Hernandez now, even if he only serves two years in prison, the Hernandez House will be destroyed without him.

"Right now, Richard from the Hernandez family is out of his mind, Liam has betrayed and disappeared, Mabel is insane every day, and Celeste and Isaac are incompetent.

"Mildred is aged, and recently, she's been so stressed that all sorts of health issues have come up. Who knows how long she can live? Of course, they have nothing to do with you, but you have to think about Sophia.

"We both know that Sophia is nominally Liam's daughter, but she's actually Mr. Hernandez's. We can't send Sophia to the Chamberlain family. If the Hernandez family collapses, what will happen to Sophia? She'll truly become an orphan!

"Although Joseph doesn't know Sophia is his own daughter, probably because of their blood relationship, Joseph is genuinely good to Sophia, and Sophia actually cares about Joseph, too," Nathaniel said helplessly.

Cassie fell silent. She hadn't considered all of this before.

She thought, 'What Nathaniel said makes sense. However, if I don't press charges, how should I explain it to David?'

"Ms. Brooks, that's all I have to say." Nathaniel didn't say more and turned to go upstairs.

Not long after Cassie returned to the Peace Group, Sophia was brought over by the Hernandez family's driver.

Cassie hadn't seen Sophia for over a month. She took her to buy some pretty clothes and a big cake, then brought her back to the Chapman family villa to share it with Oliver.

Sophia, with her lively personality, was the opposite of Oliver and made Aiden especially happy.

"Cassie, Sophia is really adorable. Why don't you leave her with me? Having Oliver and Sophia around makes me feel much younger." Aiden hadn't been so happy in a long time.

Sophia thought for a moment and then shook her head seriously. "Grandpa, I am sorry. I need to keep Mildred company, too. She is so pitiful. She used to have Walter, but now she's all alone."

"Sophia, you're such a good and filial child," Aiden praised her but then sighed and turned to Cassie, "I heard that the Hernandez family is planning to sell the estate."

Cassie was stunned. "Is the Hernandez family having such difficulty?"

Aiden tapped the table. "The Hernandez House has too many subsidiaries and needs a lot of capital to operate. The chip venture was a huge gamble by Joseph. If he had won, he could have joined the ranks of the world's richest. But he lost. That's the risk and opportunity that come with business."

Cassie was silent for a moment and then said, "I heard that the March family is interested in the Hernandez House."

"The March family is too arrogant now. You probably don't know this, but Evelyn, the daughter of the March family, has an improper relationship with Marcus, and they even have an illegitimate child."
