Chapter 1505 Caring in Every Possible Way

It really stumped Laura what was in a man's mind.

She never found it boring to hear Derek's compliment, though perceiving Derek was just trying to cheer her up. She dissolved into laughter.

Of course, Laura's reply on Facebook was different: [Come on, you like guys. What do you know about what men think?]

Derek: [Am I not a guy?]

Laura remembered how he looked that morning and suddenly laughed.

Just then, there was a knock on the office door. The secretary came in with a takeout order. "Ms. Miller, your pasta is here."

"When did I order pasta?" Laura had just finished speaking when Derek sent another message: [My phone says the pasta I promised you yeaterday should have arrived.]

Laura's eyes widened a bit.

She thought he was just joking yesterday.

The secretary was surprised. "You didn't order it? But the delivery guy said it was for you."

The secretary paused, then teased, "Could it be a handsome guy who has a crush on you? I've heard of people sending flowers and jewelry, but pasta? That's a first. How sweet!"

Laura felt awkward, but after having her self-esteem bruised by Michael, she couldn't help but feel a bit pleased.

Alright, even though she had just been divorced, people wouldn't say it openly, they were definitely talking about it behind her back. Laura could imagine them saying that no matter how beautiful she was or how rich her family was, she still got dumped by Michael.

Most people online were criticizing Michael, but a few were mocking Laura.

Laura actually saw it all, but she could only pretend to ignore it.

A bowl of pasta wasn't expensive, but it gave her dignity.

"Bring it over," Laura told her to put it on the table.

After the secretary left, Laura opened the pasta. It smelled delicious. Even though she had breakfast in the morning, it was all light food at the Presidential Palace. Just looking at it made her want to eat.

Laura took a bite, and the pasta tasted almost as good as freshly made.

She was so surprised that she sent Derek a message on Facebook: [Your cafeteria is far from here. How did you manage to make the pasta taste like it just came out of the pot?]

Derek: [Of course, it's not from our cafeteria. It's from an Italian restaurant near your company. I pre-ordered it and paid double to have it delivered immediately.]

Derek: [Feeling better?]

Laura: [Thank you.]

'Having someone who cares so much about you feels really good,' she thought.

At 5:30 PM, after the data results from a set of materials came out, Laura took off her lab coat and walked out of the lab with her colleagues.

Laura had just entered the password, and when the door opened, she saw Derek outside.

Derek, in a dark coat, stood elegantly in the warm winter sun.

When Derek saw Laura come out, he gave her a bright smile.

The colleagues, all around thirty years old, were stunned by Derek.

Even an intern joked, "Laura, is your boyfriend here to pick you up from work?"

"I wish I had such a handsome boyfriend."

Laura smiled and winked. "He's my brother."

Upon hearing this, Derek gave her a smiling glance. "Your mom couldn't possibly have had me just a few months younger than you."

This was a denial.

A female colleague in her thirties laughed, "I knew it. You two look about the same age. He doesn't look like a younger brother, and you don't look alike."

Laura was worried they'd get the wrong idea and wanted to explain.

But before she could say anything, Derek put his arm around her shoulder and led her away. "Let's go, let's go, time for dinner."

The colleagues behind them sighed. "Indeed, a beautiful and wealthy woman, even if divorced, never lacks excellent suitors."

"Isn't that great? Do you think Laura is waiting for her ex-husband to regret it? Forget it. Laura might as well date a young, handsome guy and live freely, making her ex-husband jealous."

"So we don't need to pity Laura. Some men don't know how to cherish, and naturally, other men will."

On the other side, Laura, being held by Derek, walked to the parking lot. She then broke free from his arm. "Why didn't you explain just now? The colleagues must think you're my boyfriend. I just got divorced. Where would I get a boyfriend?"

"How should I explain?" Derek asked with a smile. "Tell them I'm the President's son? If I reveal my identity, would they be so natural around me? They'd probably be too unnerved to speak."

"That's true." Laura suddenly realized she had been too impulsive.

"Don't overthink it." Derek patted her head and looked at her with a teasing smile. "You just got divorced, and suddenly a handsome guy comes to pick you up. Do you think people will still pity you? They'd probably envy you for starting a new, carefree life."

Laura's cheeks blushed slightly at his words.

Recently, when Laura came to the company, she could feel her colleagues in the lab being cautious around her, even avoiding talking about their own husbands and families.

Sometimes Laura wanted to tell them that it wasn't necessary.

Laura didn't care that much.

Thinking back, Laura used to show off how Michael sent her expensive gifts every day, which was now a laughingstock.

Now, just thinking about it made Laura feel embarrassed.

"I think the last thing you need is pity," Derek suddenly said. "Sometimes, when people don't pity or sympathize, the wound doesn't hurt as much."

"Exactly," Laura agreed wholeheartedly. "It's just a divorce. Why should people pity me? It's not like divorce is something pitiful."

"Divorce isn't pitiful; it's the beginning of a new life, representing countless new paths you can choose."

Derek opened the car door. "Let's go. We're not taking Maeve today. I'm taking you somewhere fun. We'll be back by seven."

"Where?" Laura didn't react immediately.

"Somewhere that will make you happy." Derek winked playfully at her.

Laura was stunned.

Even after the car left the parking lot, her heart was still warmed. "You don't think I'm still upset about Michael's wedding banquet, do you?"

Derek didn't say anything, just gave her a sharp look while driving.

Laura curled up in her seat. "I was a bit upset this morning, but after eating the pasta you sent, I felt much better."

"You may find it fine in the day. But when you go back at night, in the dead of night, facing a crying child, it's easy to overthink," Derek said, turning the steering wheel decisively, his words hitting the mark.
