Chapter 1783 She Really Wants to Kill Milan
Milan was silent for a few seconds before he earnestly said, "Bernice is fine, Nina is fine, I'll stay with you both no matter what."
He would cherish Bernice like a friend, but his love for Nina would remain in his heart.
Nina was stunned for a moment, then struggled to sit up and gave a low, hoarse laugh, "Thank you for saying that."
"Nina, did you have a nightmare?"
Milan gently brushed her damp hair.
She had been sweating a lot earlier.
She kept saying strange things in her sleep.
"I think I saw Bernice. She said she was leaving." Nina looked down at her hands, "You know, I always felt like she hadn't left. I wanted to give this body back to her, but I dirtied it. Bernice wouldn't want this body anymore, would she?"
Her desolate and self-reproachful look made Milan's heart ache. "No, Bernice is kind-hearted. She wouldn't mind these things."
Nina looked confused.
Milan gave a bitter smile, "I spent more time with Bernice and knew her better. She was a very simple girl. Otherwise, she wouldn't have believed Gary's sweet words. I tried to persuade her over the phone, but she wouldn't listen. When someone like Gary wants to win over a woman, he can be very gentle and indulgent. Bernice had never been in a relationship before, so she didn't understand the ways of wealthy men."
Nina tightened her fist under the blanket.
"When she fell deeply in love with Gary, he got tired of her. Bernice, who was inexperienced in the ways of the world, couldn't handle such a blow." Milan sighed, "She was just too naive. She shouldn't have taken her own life so easily for a man. She forgot how hard Danielle worked to raise her. Luckily, you are living in her place; otherwise, Danielle might have taken her own life, too."
Nina was silent for a long time, "I've always been avenging myself. When I go back, I'll avenge Bernice, too."
Gary.
She had dealt with him once before.
But at that time, she was being targeted by Lucas and didn't have time to deal with Gary.
"Go ahead, I support you." Milan looked at her for a while and then smiled indulgently, "Actually, I've always wanted to avenge Bernice too, but my identity is special, so I can only stay hidden. Besides, I know nothing about the business world. Sometimes I think I'm pretty useless."
"Who said you're useless? You found so many people for me and made many things easier for me. Without you, I wouldn't have been able to do many things." Nina's pale lips curved into a smile.
"Alright, you should lie down." Milan tried to help her lie down, but as soon as he touched her soft waist, he felt a jolt of electricity through his body.
He had never thought a woman's waist could be so slender.
For a man living on the battlefield, Milan's handsome face turned red.
Luckily, his skin was dark enough to hide it.
He tried to cover his embarrassment with a sheepish smile, "I don't have many skills, but I do know a lot of people. When I get back from my leave, I'll arrange for a few skilled people to stay by your side. They've all seen blood."
Nina was stunned and was about to speak when Milan scolded, "Don't refuse, or I'll tell Danielle, and she'll come to take care of you herself."
"Stop using Bernice's mom to threaten me." Nina glared at him weakly, her watery eyes, due to the fever, lacked their usual coldness and appeared more vulnerable.
Milan's heart softened, "I have no choice. Since Bernice is gone, it's only right for you to take care of Danielle. The Nelson family isn't that simple. What if Lucas sends someone after you? Even though he's in prison for now, the Nelson family has trained many capable people."
Nina was silent.
She knew this well.
Just like Thaddeus by Lucas's side, who had once been a mercenary abroad and had blood on his hands.
"Good girl."
Seeing her silence, Milan patted her head.
When Nina glared at him, he said seriously, "You need to wash your hair."
He thought she didn't want to wash her hair, but this place was too remote, and even getting water was inconvenient.
"I'll go boil some water for you to wash your hair." Milan suddenly said enthusiastically.
"Don't."
Before Nina could finish her sentence, Milan had already run off.
Half an hour later, Milan came back with a pot of hot water, mixed it with cold water in a basin, and made a basin of warm water.
"Come on, I used to wash my mom's hair all the time." Milan rolled up his sleeves.
Nina's lips moved, seeing Milan's high spirits, and besides, her head was dizzy, so maybe washing her hair would make her feel better.
But as soon as she lay down, she regretted it, "Can you be gentler? My head isn't your prey."
"Then I'll treat your head like my gun. I always take good care of my gun." Milan thought and indeed softened his touch.
Nina was speechless.
Milan being single for so many years made sense.
Washing hair was easy, but drying long hair wasn't.
Nina thought for a moment, then picked up a pair of scissors. After measuring, she cut her long hair short.
Her once long hair now only reached her neck.
When Milan came in with a hairdryer, his handsome face was dumbfounded, "What are you doing?"
"I'm staying here for a few months. Washing and drying long hair is inconvenient, so I cut it short."
Nina casually waved the scissors.
Her decisive action made Milan feel inferior, and he couldn't help but mutter, "If I didn't know you were a girl since childhood, I'd suspect you had a man's soul inside. I'm not as efficient as you."
Nina gave him a blank look, "If you keep this up, I guarantee you'll never find a girlfriend."
"I was wrong, Nina. I'll dry your hair right away."
Milan plugged in the hairdryer.
After five minutes of drying, Milan looked at her hairstyle, paused, then said, "Take your medicine. I'll go cook."
With that, Milan quickly slipped away.
Nina hesitated for a moment, picked up her phone, and opened the selfie camera. Seeing her new hairstyle looking like a porcupine, she gritted her teeth.
If she weren't sick, she'd want to kill Milan.
She was speechless for a while, then wanted to laugh.
Milan was still the same, always finding an excuse to escape after doing something wrong.
Milan stayed in the poor area for ten days. Only after the bodyguards he had hired arrived did he prepare to leave.
"Don't worry, Milan. We'll protect your girlfriend."
Reid McDowell, who had just arrived, patted his chest. He had been working abroad and knew nothing about domestic news, so he thought Bernice was Milan's girlfriend.
