Chapter 1536 Her Entire Face Was Written with Jealousy

What did Derek just say?

Did he just say he liked Laura?

How could this be? Did she hear it wrong?

But if it was just her imagination, why was his kiss so passionate and deep?

Laura was totally flustered. She pushed him away with shaky hands, "Derek, stop joking. Today isn't April Fool's Day."

"I'm not joking." Derek's lips were still on hers, his breath quickening as he confessed, "Laura, I once told you that the person I can't help but love is you. I have no interest in men at all. From the beginning to the end, the only one I love is you."

Derek continued, "Otherwise, why do you think I treat you so well? When I saw you betrayed by Michael, I was angrier than anyone. When I saw you cry, I wanted to make you smile more than anyone. When Michael hurt you, I wanted to kill him. During the time we've spent together, I've wanted to give you the best of everything in the world."

"No, this can't be true." Laura was in shock.

The more Laura heard, the more panicked she became. "You like men. There were even photos taken by reporters before."

"That was all intentional. I wanted my parents to think I liked men, and I wanted you to think so too. That way, you'd lower your guard around me, and I could treat you well without feeling guilty. Also, my family would find it easier to accept you and me together. After all, being with you is better than being with a man," Derek cupped her face, forcing her to look into his eyes, "Laura, look at me. I'll say it again, I love you."

"No, don't say it." Laura was completely panicked by his words.

Laura frantically pushed him away, tears streaming down her face, "We can never be together, Derek. It's well-known that I'm your parents' Goddaughter, and I'm also your cousin's ex-wife. No one will accept us being together. Your parents will go crazy, and the Jude family won't accept it either."

Derek let her hands hit his shoulders, smiling bitterly, "I know. That's why I've been making arrangements behind the scenes. Now, except for my dad, most of the decisions in my grandpa's side of the family are made by Julia. As long as she doesn't oppose, it doesn't matter how much my grandpa and the others object. As for my parents, I have my own plans. I won't let you be in a difficult position. Laura, believe me, I genuinely want to be with you."

"It's only your own wishful thinking." Laura shook her head, eager to interrupt him.

"Laura, what you think is complicated has always been simple to me, hasn't it?" Derek wiped the tears from her face with his thumb, "Your divorce, taking the blame for Bernice, what you consider big issues are insignificant for me."

Laura's eyes widened, "So you knew all along that I took the blame for Bernice."

Derek replied, "I've known for a long time because I understand what kind of person you are. Even if you hate Megan, you wouldn't do something like kidnapping and disfiguring her. The only people you'd personally protect are your family and a few close friends."

Derek said softly, "Laura, my love for you isn't just some passing thing. I've had feelings for you for a long time. But back then, you were married to Michael and had a kid. When Michael treated you badly, I tried to provoke him to make him realize what he had and treat you better. I genuinely wanted you both to be happy, but he blew it. That day on the street, when I saw you crying, I thought, from now on, I would be the one to make you happy. I wouldn't let any other guy have you."

"But you said you were just trying to provoke him. You said it was all fake," Laura shot back.

"If I had let you know from the start that I liked you, would you have been scared and immediately avoided me, rejecting my kindness?" Derek asked in return.

Laura glared at him, "Derek, you're so scheming."

"I've used all my scheming on you in my lifetime," Derek smiled bitterly, "Laura, think about it. For you, the whole world thinks I like men. I have no image left."

"You liar," Laura muttered, completely at a loss after Derek's sudden confession, "No matter how reasonable your confession is, we can never be together."

"Why not? You're divorced, and we have no blood relation," Derek stubbornly tried to convince her.

"Then I don't like you." Laura felt it was too absurd to agree.

"You don't like me?" Derek wasn't sad; instead, he smiled, "Laura, ask yourself, do you really not like me?"

"I really don't," Laura insisted.

"Alright, then let me ask you," Derek pressed his finger against her lips, stopping her from continuing, "That day, when I held Maeve to make Blair happy, were you angry just because you didn't want Blair to hold Maeve, or were you angry because you saw me using Maeve to please her? Later that night, when I came to see you, your whole face shrieked jealousy."

It seemed that a lie had been uncovered, Laura was furious out of embarrassment, "No, that's not the case. I don't like you. How could I be jealous?"

"Then recently, when I've been good to Blair and often going out to eat with her, haven't you felt unhappy?" Derek continued.

Laura replied, "No."

Laura couldn't listen to him anymore; she felt like she was going crazy.

Seeing her agitated state, Derek's eyes were filled with affection and tolerance, "You have, Laura. Actually, there's nothing between Blair and me. We're not dating. I've been close to her these days to deal with my parents and to make you realize your feelings for me. Blair doesn't like me either. We've known each other for many years and often keep in touch privately. She has a boyfriend abroad whom she's been with for many years, but her parents don't support her."

Laura was stunned.

So there was nothing between him and Blair.

Somehow, Laura's mood became less agitated.

"Derek, you liar," She glared at him with tear-filled eyes, "But Magnolia and Carl are already renovating the house for your wedding."

"There won't be a wedding house for Blair and me. After Christmas, we'll explain everything to our parents. As for the new house being renovated at the Presidential Palace, I hope you'll move in." Derek finished speaking and kissed her dominantly on the lips.

Laura blushed and quickly pushed him away, "It won't be mine. I've been divorced and had a child. Derek, please stop thinking this way. In the future, you'll meet a better girl who can help your career soar."
