Chapter 37 Feed her
Cassie, pale-faced, nodded. "He had a bad reputation in school. He always harassed female classmates and often hid in the girls' restroom to peek. I was disgusted by him, not because he was poor or ugly. I never thought he would be so twisted."
Noah sighed. "When you're down on your luck, you run into all kinds of crazies. Don't worry. This guy won't see the light of day again."
Cassie's dry lips moved, but she didn't make a sound.
Joseph glanced at her and asked, "There was a live broadcast at the time. Did anyone see her face?"
Noah nodded awkwardly. "The videos have been deleted, so they can't spread online. But a lot of people in Silverwood's high society were watching. Many people definitely know."
Cassie clutched the blanket tightly. After everything that had happened, she knew she could never go back to the Brooks family.
She gave a bitter smile. "It's okay. I don't care."
After all, no one really cared about her anymore.
Joseph was silent for a moment, then turned to Noah and said, "Inform the police to publicly commend her on social media for cooperating as an undercover agent. If it weren't for her, the police wouldn't have caught those people using live streams to spread illegal videos so quickly."
Cassie was stunned, staring at him in disbelief.
Was he helping her to protect his reputation, or did he genuinely care about her?
Noah gave a thumbs up. "This way, everyone will praise Cassie for her bravery. I'll handle it right now."
After Noah left, Cassie suddenly felt a bit lost facing Joseph. "Thank you for today."
Joseph smiled slightly. "Finally, you thank me."
Cassie was too exhausted to talk to him anymore.
"Do you want something to eat?" Joseph asked.
"I can just order takeout with my phone."
"Enough. If you can't speak properly, just shut up," Joseph snapped, almost infuriated by her. He was standing right there, and she would rather order takeout than let him help. "Lie down and rest. I'll get you something."
After he left, Cassie gave a bitter smile.
It wasn't that she didn't want to rely on him; she didn't dare to.
He was Arthur's uncle, someone who could betray her at any moment.
About twenty minutes later, Joseph came back with a food container.
Cassie struggled to sit up.
"The doctor said you need at least two days to recover," Joseph said as he helped her sit up and placed a pillow behind her back.
She reached out but found she couldn't even hold the knife and fork.
"Don't move," Joseph ordered, then scooped a spoonful of soup and fed it to her.
Cassie was surprised, but her stomach was really uncomfortable, so she didn't care anymore.
Fearing he might lose patience, she sped up her eating. After eating half, she said, "That's enough. I'm full."
"No, eat a bit more," Joseph frowned and continued to feed her.
Cassie had to keep eating.
Occasionally, she sneaked a glance at him.
Although Joseph's sharp features were stern, his handsome eyes showed no impatience as he watched her eat.
As she ate, her face grew increasingly warm.
When he noticed the blush on her ears, a hint of amusement flashed in his eyes.
The usually Cassie was now blushing just from being fed.
