Chapter 988 You Bear A Resemblance
He was holding Sophia as he got into the car when Patrick suddenly asked, "Is she your daughter?"
"Yes," Joseph responded casually. Liam had gone missing, and from now on, he would treat Sophia as his own daughter.
"You two bear a resemblance," Patrick said with a smile.
"Yes," Joseph said with mixed feelings. "Did you just move here? I haven't seen you before."
"Yes," Patrick replied as he turned and got into his car.
After the two cars passed each other, Joseph glanced in the direction Patrick's car was heading.
Joseph pondered, 'That used to be the Hernandez House. Could he be the one who bought the estate?'
However, Joseph had no time to think about the Hernandez House because Cassie was going to live with David.
He didn't believe David wouldn't have sex with Cassie. The thought of it made his heart ache.
What he more worried was Cassie might get pregnant with David's child. David was not a good person. Joseph could stay away from Cassie, but he feared she would ended up in the same fate as Mabel.
"Sophia," Joseph suddenly said. "Can you call Cassie tomorrow and tell her you were in a car accident and want her to come and stay with you?"
Sophia's eyes widened, still red from crying, making her look both cute and pitiful. "That's not good. Mommy hates it when people lie."
"But you're not lying. We did have a car accident just now, and you were scared to tears," Joseph coaxed the innocent Sophia.
Sophia said, "Joseph, you've turned bad. Haven't you gotten over Mommy? She is married; you should give up."
Joseph smiled bitterly. "If she had married a good man, I could wish her happiness, but David is a hypocritical bad guy. I'm worried Cassie will get hurt in the future."
Sophia looked confused. "No, I think David is pretty good."
"Sophia, he's nice to you just to win Cassie's favor. I can't explain it to you clearly, but he has two faces," Joseph said seriously.
"What does two faces mean?" Sophia asked.
"It means he shows one side of himself in public and another in private," Joseph said, looking at her with a hint of pleading and flattery. "Sophia, don't you believe me? Yes, I used to be bad, but I was openly bad."
Sophia was speechless. She never thought Joseph would have such a humble day.
She said to herself inwardly, 'Forget it. He looks so pitiful. I don't want Mommy living with David. If a new baby came along, I wouldn't be Mommy's only daughter anymore.'
Joseph took Sophia to the Hernandez Group.
When Mabel heard Sophia was coming, she personally came to take Sophia upstairs to play.
"How's the recovery of the 3 billion dollars from Megan going?" Mabel asked.
"She doesn't want to pay it back," Joseph replied.
Mabel sneered in anger. "I told you Megan was no good, but you wouldn't listen to me. You even secretly gave her 3 billion dollars. You're really generous."
"Didn't you give Marcus a lot, too? Over twenty years, it's been more than 3 billion dollars." Joseph raised an eyebrow. "I must be your biological son; I'm just like you."
Mabel was at a loss for words.
"By the way, do you know the identity of the man who bought the Hernandez House?" Joseph suddenly asked.
"No idea. The buyer never showed up." Mabel frowned. "Why are you asking?"
"Nothing." Joseph shook his head, watching Mabel take Sophia upstairs.
His phone on the table vibrated again; it was an unknown caller.
He answered, and Megan's voice came through. "Joseph, why did you put my number on the blacklist?"
"Are you calling to pay back the money?" Joseph asked coldly.
"No, Joseph, you misunderstand me. I never intended to harm you." Before Megan could finish, Joseph hung up the phone.
She screamed like a madwoman.
Michael walked in just in time to see this scene and was startled. This Megan seemed so unfamiliar to him.
"Michael, why are you here?" Megan was also startled, not expecting the security to let him in so quietly. She quickly squeezed out a few tears, showing a look of emotional breakdown. "I just called Joseph, and he made me so angry. He's become so strange and scary. We broke up, but there's no need to be enemies, right?"
"Joseph has changed." Michael understood her loss of control and nodded. "I went to see him, and he ignored me, too."
Megan asked, "Did you talk to Lucas?"
"Lucas doesn't want to get involved," Michael said vaguely. "Lucas thinks you should pay Joseph back 2 billion dollars. Actually, 3 billion dollars is a lot. Many people can't earn even 10 million dollars in a lifetime."
Actually, Lucas didn't say these words, but Michael used Lucas's name to persuade her.
"I told you. I don't have that much money right now. It's all in the fund company. Why don't you lend it to me first, and I'll pay you back later," Megan said, her mind racing.
Michael was stunned. "If I had it, I would lend it to you."
