Chapter 327

"The bodyguard had never seen her before and assumed she was just another woman hell-bent on getting Joseph's attention. He approached her without any courtesy and shoved her to the ground.

Joseph's face remained impassive as he lifted his long legs and ascended the staircase.

Cassie, enduring the pain, scrambled up and followed him. ""Joseph, I agree to all the conditions you laid out before—just as long as you're willing to let David and his company off the hook.""

The tall figure halted, and Joseph finally glanced back at her, the corners of his mouth curling into an enigmatic and chilling smirk. ""What conditions? I seem to recall no such thing.""

Cassie was momentarily stunned, her complexion turning pale.

She couldn't very well blurt out that she'd agreed to sleep with him. Not only were they in public, but even in private, she couldn't voice such a proposition.

On second thought, she realized that on that night, he hadn't spoken any demands; he'd merely given her a choice.

She bit her lip, eyes cast downwards, her voice a humble and hoarse whisper, ""Joseph, I was foolish before. Please, don't hold my past against me. I'm begging you.""

""And so...?"" Joseph turned around, descended two steps, and paused before her, his gaze mocking. ""You think a little regret and a few words can undo it all—that if I took you to bed, everything would be alright?""

His blunt words turned Cassie's face a deep shade of red, and she nearly burst into tears.

""Ah, the look you have, trying not to cry—it's quite fetching. I feel almost pitying,"" Joseph carelessly stroked her chin. ""I'll give you a chance—come with me.""

With that, he turned and entered the clubhouse.

Cassie, unsure of what lay ahead but knowing this was the only chance to save David, followed him, riding the elevator up.

As they pushed open the doors to the private room, several men were seated inside—fat, thin, young, and old alike.

They rose to their feet, eager to please at the sight of Joseph.

""Joseph, we've been eagerly waiting for you,"" said a portly man whose eyes lingered on Cassie and wouldn't drift away. ""You grace us with your presence, Joseph, and bring along a stunning beauty—we're all green with envy.""

""Mr. Edmund, no need for envy. This beauty is here specifically for your company,"" Joseph replied with a faint smile, but it felt like a thunderbolt to Cassie.

She stared in disbelief at the man joking and laughing gracefully—how could he treat her this way?

""Really?"" Mr. Gabriel was overjoyed.

""Yes. Thanks to your help, the Singapore project advanced swiftly. It's rare for you to visit New York, and it's only proper that I express my gratitude,"" Joseph replied, his tone detached.

He gave Cassie a look, signaling her to join Mr. Gabriel.

""You..."" Cassie's lips quivered palely, struggling to grasp the reality before her.

Joseph leaned in close, his voice devilish in her ear, ""If you can't accept it, then get lost.""
The man spoke and immediately took the seat of honor, his tall and stoic silhouette piercing Cassie's heart as if gouging a hole from which her blood seemed to gush forth.

On her way there, she had convinced herself that all he had done, he did with her in mind, that he was trying to force her back to his side.

But now, she was fully awake to the truth.

To truly love someone was not to destroy them or cast them into the abyss.

At that moment, she yearned to leave, to distance herself far from this man.

But if she walked away, what about David?

Would he spend a lifetime locked away?

Her conscience wouldn't allow it.

""Mr. Gabriel, it’s a pleasure to meet you."" She mustered a smile and sat beside Mr. Gabriel.

""Ha-ha, Joseph, thanks!"" Mr. Gabriel laughed wildly, draping an arm around Cassie.

The greasy stench of tobacco and alcohol hit her like a wave, making Cassie nearly retch, yet she gritted her teeth and endured."
