Chapter 1630 Bringing Humiliation Upon Himself

Michael felt slightly embarrassed.

He couldn't help but glance at Joseph's table not far away, where he saw many familiar faces, including Cassie and Noah.

Even Derek was chatting happily with Michael's former friends, Joseph and Noah.

Michael remembered that these people weren't very close before, especially Noah, who had always been in Silverwood and had never met Derek.

When did things start to change?

Michael felt very uncomfortable, with an indescribable feeling, as if his former position was slowly being taken over by Derek.

"The past was my fault, I..."

"You said it was the past, so don't bring it up. It's all over." Luke raised his hand to interrupt. Even though Michael had come to apologize in person, Luke didn't feel appeased because some wounds were truly inflicted and no amount of words could erase them.

Luke thought the best solution was for Michael to disappear from their sight, which would be good for everyone.

Luke's indifferent demeanor made Michael feel very uncomfortable.

He would rather Luke and Rose scold him like they used to.

"Can I say a word to my friend?" Michael suddenly asked in a low voice.

"Suit yourself." Luke didn't want to entertain him at all and turned to leave.

"Luke, the gift." Michael hurriedly handed over the box in his hand.

Luke took it and handed it to Elliott, then turned and left without even opening the box.

Michael felt utterly humiliated but could only pretend not to notice, awkwardly walking over to Joseph's table and smiling, "Joseph, Noah, you guys are here too."

Everyone at the table immediately turned their gaze to Michael.

Noah looked at his former friend with a bit of strangeness. He truly hadn't expected Michael to come up and greet him.

In fact, he hadn't had much contact with Michael for years.

This time he came to Whisperlyn City because their families had a good relationship in Silverwood over the past few years and would have future collaborations.

Joseph's lips moved slightly, but before he could speak, Cassie suddenly pinched his thigh hard.

Cassie, who was smiling beside him, made Joseph feel scared, so he could only say in a low voice, "Yes, I came with Cassie."

"Honey, I want to go to the restroom," Cassie said lazily.

"I'll go with you." Joseph held Cassie's hand and immediately stood up.

The couple walked away immediately, clearly intending to avoid him.

Not only did the people at this table notice, but others at different tables also saw it.

Everyone watched the once dazzling Michael with interest. He used to be the highly regarded heir of the Jude family, always surrounded by people wherever he went.

But Michael didn't know how to cherish it.

Michael was aware of everyone's gossip, but leaving directly would only make him lose more dignity. "Noah, when did you come to Whisperlyn City? You didn't even tell me."

Noah said flatly, "There's nothing to say between us, right?"

Noah was really fed up. During the years when Cassie was in trouble, Noah had said some good things for her, and Michael had scolded him harshly. Sometimes Michael's words were particularly unpleasant, which made Noah very disappointed.

Was it worth it for Michael to do this for a woman?

Noah later rarely came to Whisperlyn City, and even if he did, he wouldn't meet with Michael and the others.

After Cassie and Joseph got back together, Noah slowly restored his relationship with Joseph and Lucas.

For someone of Noah's status, he didn't lack money and never thought about developing in Whisperlyn City. As friends, no one thought about currying favor with anyone.

Michael struggled to speak, "Noah, we were college classmates. We had such a good relationship back then."

Derek glanced at Noah's indifferent expression and frowned helplessly. He stood up, walked over, and put his arm around Michael's shoulder, "Michael, I have something to talk to you about. Let's go outside and chat."

Michael saw Noah's expression but was already very embarrassed. If he left in a huff, it would be even more humiliating.

Derek gave him a reason, so Michael followed him out without saying a word.

Once they were outside the banquet hall, Derek let go of his arm, "Why did you come? You know the Miller family doesn't welcome you, and now you're just making yourself more embarrassed."

Michael mumbled, "After all, the Miller family moving is such an important event."

"But you two are already divorced. The Miller family won't welcome you." Derek was particularly angry. "Michael, some things in this world can't be fixed just by admitting you're wrong and apologizing. Stop bothering the Miller family. They don't care about your apology and don't want to see you. Also, your friends can't go back to the way things were with you, understand?"

"Derek, you don't understand."

Michael said painfully, "I love Laura, you know? Thinking about the harm I caused her makes me feel worse than death. Why didn't I cherish her? I actually stopped loving Megan a long time ago. Even after I married Megan, I couldn't stop thinking about Laura. But because of a misunderstanding, I didn't dare to face my feelings. You might not believe it, but Megan and I never had sex after we got married. Whenever I touched Megan, I felt very uncomfortable."

"The time I had sex with Megan, I was drunk. Otherwise, I would never have betrayed Laura. I didn't even know Megan was pregnant until she had a miscarriage."

Derek was stunned and a bit surprised, "So what? When you didn't cherish her, it meant you missed your chance. You love Laura, but does that mean she has to love you?"

"That's not what I mean."

"If you really love someone, you should make her happy and joyful, not bring her endless trouble," Derek said impatiently. "Stop bothering Laura."

Michael's eyes gradually narrowed, "This is between me and her. Why do you care so much? Is it because you like her too?"

"I'm going back to eat." Derek turned to leave.

"Derek," Michael said coldly, "You used to admit it, but now you don't even dare to?"

"Whether I admit it or not, it's between me and her. What does it have to do with you?" Derek said bluntly. "I helped you out today because we're relatives. You seem pretty idle; you might as well think about what you should do in the future."

After saying that, Derek went back inside.

Laura walked up, "Did Michael leave?"

"Not sure, but if he comes back, I won't help him again," Derek said, frowning.

Laura also found Michael annoying, "By the way, my dad said Michael just sent over a gemstone, which should be quite expensive. He wants you to take it back to the Jude family."

"Okay, it definitely wasn't from James and the others. It must have been sent by Michael under James's name."
