Chapter 478

Heartfelt Commitment...

A surprised belch slipped from her lips.

"Do you understand? That's my new WhatsApp moniker," Joseph declared, casting a sidelong glance at her.

Cassie, bewildered, asked, "What exactly are you trying to accomplish?"

"Merely emulating you," he replied.

Suddenly, she recalled her old flirtatious WhatsApp handle, 'Love J.' It had seemed so trivial at the time, but now, the memory made her cheeks flush with mortification. What had she been thinking?

"Look at the status," Joseph urged.

Cassie obeyed, her fingers trembling as she read: If a life sentence means loving you forever, I would gladly accept the punishment.

Joseph cleared his throat subtly, "Do you find it appealing?"

As an attorney, it was the most romantic, law-themed phrase he could devise.

Cassie reached out, placing her hand on his forehead.

"What are you doing?" he questioned.

"Merely checking if you're running a fever," she replied. Joseph's expression darkened, "That's enough. Do you realize how much thought I put into this all night? For me, a minute could equate to a million bucks."

Cassie stifled a snort. So, in her estimation, she'd cost him a small fortune.

"Regardless, you're my wife," Joseph stated, stowing her lunchbox away. "Make sure to come home early tonight; I'll prepare dinner for us."

"Thanks, but that won't be necessary. I've already made plans with Sasha to visit the spa," Cassie countered. Joseph's frown deepened, and he turned to respond, but Cassie cut him off, "I know you're going to attempt to dissuade me from spending time with her again. You're likely going to speak ill of her, but I'm sorry, she's my friend now. To me, she’s loyal, generous, kind-hearted, and down-to-earth. She’s a paragon of virtue."

Joseph felt an overwhelming urge to shake some sense into her. "You've been manipulated by her. That woman is not as simple as you believe."

"I'm perfectly content being 'manipulated' by her. Do you have an issue with that?" Cassie retorted with a playful smirk. "What, are you going to summon your friend to come and knock some sense into me again?"

"What are you insinuating?" Joseph's brows furrowed in confusion.

"Merely that the last time, all I did was request Joyce Ray to leave, and your beloved brother Michael couldn’t wait to storm into my office to berate me," Cassie stated, crossing her arms and adopting a sarcastic expression. "And now that I’m friends with Nina, they'll probably all advise you to divorce me."

Joseph’s eyes darkened slightly. He was completely unaware of this incident.

"Just leave, don't bother me anymore. I don't want another tirade from your brother, labeling me as insane. They probably think I'm too problematic. After all, it's a privilege for someone like you to be married to me. I should be expressing gratitude," Cassie said, flipping open a file.

Joseph’s brows knitted together in frustration. He wasn't sure about Lucas's feelings, but Michael was exactly as she suspected.

He stepped closer and seized her wrist. Cassie looked up to see him dialing Michael’s number on his phone and activating the speakerphone.

Michael's voice echoed through the device: “Joseph, I was just about to call you. Is Cassie tampering with your account, or what? That username you chose almost made me regurgitate last night’s dinner.”

Cassie: “......”

As if she had anything to do with it. Why did everything seem to land on her shoulders?
She shot Joseph an angry glare, but seeing his face so taut, for some reason, she felt a surge of laughter.

"No hacking involved, I posted it myself," Joseph replied, barely suppressing the urge to throttle him. "Enough with the nonsense. Did you visit Peace Group to give Cassie a hard time recently?"

"Is she complaining now? Can't she let it go......?" Michael responded.

Joseph's gaze grew frostier. "What exactly did you say to her?"

"I didn't say much, I don’t remember. I just warned her to stop targeting Joyce Ray, acting like she's some big shot because she's a 'Viv' now…”

"Michael..." Joseph bit back his words, his jaw clenched, a deliberate pause between each syllable. "My disagreement with Cassie is our private matter; it's not your place to interfere. And if you're so concerned about Joyce Ray, why don't you just take her under your wing? Handle her care as you see fit."
