Chapter 89
"Laura was taken aback. ""Did I offend you?""
""You didn't offend me. You just set me up!"" Cassie couldn't contain her screams any longer. ""Joseph is not Arthur's uncle, alright! You got the wrong person!""
Laura stuttered, ""That... that can't be possible, right?""
""I met Arthur's real uncle today. It's David. I just took on his Garden Heights villa project a few days ago."" Cassie was at a loss for words. ""What kind of colossal misunderstanding led you to misidentify him?""
Laura was trembling. How could she make such a mistake when her brother explicitly said so?
Thirty minutes later, Cassie appeared in front of her like lightning.
Laura had borrowed a motorcycle helmet temporarily. ""Okay, you can hit me, but not my face.""
Cassie smirked. ""I won't hit your face. How about we jump into a river together?""
Laura gave her a pitiful and helpless look.
""I remember my brother pointing out Arthur's uncle to me. Two men were walking side by side at that time, and Joseph was definitely there. He had an overwhelming presence, like a king reigning over the world...""
""So, you automatically assumed that he was Arthur's uncle!"" Cassie coldly interrupted her.
Laura nibbled her pinky finger. ""Isn't that the case? The man beside him had a much weaker aura compared to Joseph.""
""Did that person with him look like this?"" Cassie pulled up David's photo from her phone. It was a picture she accidentally took on the day the villa construction started.
""Oh, I didn't pay much attention back then."" Laura frowned, seriously contemplating. ""It does look somewhat similar. Yes, it's him. So he must be Arthur's uncle then.""
Cassie clutched her chest, feeling the pain from anger.
""My marriage has been ruined because of your illusion. Do you know how I managed to survive these days? I was constantly being tormented by that toxic-tongued man, Joseph, and I even had to do his laundry and cook for him like a nanny! Whenever I felt like I couldn't handle it anymore, I told myself it was fine because I was going to be his aunt. But I did it all for the wrong person!""
Laura's guilty conscience was almost piercing through her chest.
Cassie smiled with teary eyes. ""Not only did I suffer losses, I suffered big-time losses.""
""I'm sorry, I'm really sorry,"" Laura apologized. ""How about... I compensate you with my brother?""
Cassie was speechless. ""You've already set me up, and now you want to set up your own brother. Forget it, maybe it's karma. You were just pointing him out. It was me who had delusions of being an aunt seeking revenge. Perhaps I must have done something wrong in my past life.""
""Don't say that. Oh, by the way, didn't you mention a few days ago that the owner of that villa seemed to have a little interest in you? You've finally found out who Arthur's uncle is. It turns out that he has feelings for you. Your path to success has come."" Laura patted her shoulder encouragingly.
""Stop it. The more you say it, the more I want to cry.""
Cassie sighed heavily, looking up at the sky. ""David is much better than Joseph. If I hadn't mistaken him for someone else, we would have been together.""
""It's alright. You still have a chance.""
""What chance? I already have a record of marriage. Why would he accept a divorced woman?"" Cassie waved her hand. ""I better focus on working and making money. I dare not think about matters of the heart anymore.""
""In that case, you have to get a divorce from Joseph,"" Laura reminded her.
Cassie froze. Right, she needed to resolve that issue as soon as possible.
""But what if he doesn't agree to divorce you?""
""How could he? He probably wants to get rid of me as soon as possible."" Cassie forced a bitter smile."
