Chapter 501
The passenger door swung open abruptly, revealing Benjamin. Once a towering figure of masculine allure, he now appeared as pale as parchment, his brow creased in discomfort.
Laura's eyes were instantly drawn to him, her heart skipping a beat at his obvious ill-health.
She hastily pushed the concern back down, reminding herself of their severed ties. Benjamin was no longer her responsibility.
Regardless of his health, Isla was always at his side, ever ready to play the dutiful partner.
"I'm not feeling well," Benjamin confessed, his gaze locked on Laura. She stood next to her white SUV, her natural beauty amplified by the sparse makeup she wore.
Since his return from New York, he realized there hadn't been a single moment when she hadn't occupied his thoughts.
His previous aversion to alcohol had been replaced by a newfound dependence, a result of his attempts to drown his sorrows at social gatherings. The pain he felt was the aftermath of the previous night's indulgence.
Isla, observing Benjamin's unrelenting stare at Laura, swallowed her jealousy and forced a smile. "Laura, why don't you accompany Benjamin inside? You used to be there for him..."
Laura's eyebrow arched at the implication in Isla's words.
"Are they both there with you?" she asked, her tone laced with indifference.
She had relinquished her claim on Benjamin and had no desire to engage in Isla's petty games.
"You've mistaken me for someone else. Benjamin and I are no longer involved. I have other commitments," Laura retorted before turning to climb into her car.
Benjamin felt a sharp pang in his stomach, almost causing him to buckle. In the past, Laura would have been at his side, offering comfort and care. Now, she didn't spare him a second glance.
"Benjamin, let's go," Isla suggested, offering her support as they made their way to the emergency department.
Their visit entailed blood tests and a wait for the results.
When Isla emerged with the lab reports, she spotted Laura. She had parked her car and was heading towards the forensic lab.
Isla pondered over Laura's unexpected presence.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a call. Recognizing the caller ID, she greeted Olivia with a smile. "Your timing is impeccable. Guess who I just saw?"
"Who?"
"Laura! She's at the hospital's forensic lab. Do you think she has a secret child?"
"Forensic lab?" Olivia's voice spiked with surprise. "Is Laura in Madison?"
"Yes, I was wondering why she suddenly returned. She can't possibly be trying to reconcile with Benjamin... I won't let her succeed..."
"Isla, we'll continue this later. Something urgent just came up."
Olivia ended the call, her mind racing back to the moment when Cassie had yanked out a handful of her hair.
She immediately dialed a mysterious number. " Cassie's friend Laura just went to Madison Maple Hospital’s forensic lab. I suspect Cassie took my hair for a paternity test with Robert."
"I'll look into it."
"If Joseph and the others discover I'm not the real Joyce, they'll undoubtedly kill me."
"Don't worry. As long as you're working for us, I won't let anything happen to you."

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Laura received the DNA report. The words "Confirmed Biological" were emblazoned across the page, fueling her desire to confront Olivia.
She dialed Cassie's number. "You were right. The results confirm that Joyce and Robert are indeed father and daughter."
