Chapter 309

"Joseph swiftly returned to his room, which was dark except for the dim moonlight seeping in. It felt hollow and empty.

He walked straight into the walk-in closet and flicked on the light. The woman in the midst of the closet, trying on his clothes, let out a startled yelp, using the cabinet door to shield her body, her wide eyes akin to those of a frightened deer, and her cheeks flushed with a blend of shame and annoyance.

His lips curled into a mischievous smirk. ""What's this? Does a burglar sneaking into my room to try on my clothes have the nerve to glare at me?!""

""I'm not in the mood to argue. Everyone outside must be searching for me.""

Cassie was frantic. But with her clothes and hair all wet, she couldn't leave like this without raising suspicions.

""So... what does that have to do with me?"" Joseph leaned casually against the doorframe, an indifferent observer to her plight.

""Joseph..."" Cassie's face turned pale with urgency. She couldn't risk her reputation at the Hernandez estate, nor did she want to be associated with Richard, the notorious playboy and fall into Vera's trap.

""You know I don't do favors for free."" Joseph's gaze deepened.

Cassie bit her lip, her face flushing with embarrassment. ""Joseph, don't go too far. Your girlfriend is right outside.""

""So what? I'm interested in you.""

Joseph advanced step by step, his hand bracing near her head on the cabinet, his eyes dark like a vast magnetism, pulling her in deeper.

Cassie's heartbeat quickened as she gazed upon his dangerously handsome face.

...

In the oppressive heat of the changing room, Joseph's lips pressed repeatedly against hers.

Cassie, overcome with embarrassment, turned her face away, too ashamed to meet his eyes. ""Enough; you said you'd help me,"" she murmured, her voice unintentionally soft and coquettish.

Joseph's gaze lingered on her lips, wishing the kiss could last forever. But a knocking interrupted them – it was Celeste's voice. ""Joseph, have you seen Cassie?""

Startled, Cassie clutched at his clothes.

Joseph gently patted her hand, moved it away, straightened his attire, and stepped out. Opening the door, he found Celeste, Vera, and Luna waiting. ""I've been in the theater with Luna the whole time. How could I have seen her?""
""But... she's gone..."" Luna looked anxious as she surveyed his room. ""We were worried she might be hiding in here...""

""Hide? Why would she be hiding?"" Joseph's tone was sharp.

A tense silence fell upon the group as Luna realized her nervous slip of the tongue.

He let out a slow, cold laugh. ""I'd prefer if you kept the Chapman family's dirty tricks away from the Hernandez family. You know my temper; don't push me.""

With a definitive snap, he closed the door.

Soon after, he dialed one of the servants. An elderly servant, over fifty years old, came with an armful of new clothes.

Cassie quickly changed and appeared out of her room to see Joseph impeccably dressed, lounging on the sofa, a crimson cigarette between his fingers.

""Rosalind, would you please escort her out?""

""Of course. Miss Brooks, this way, please."" Rosalind smiled warmly and led Cassie out."
