Chapter 1476 Scandal Exposed
"Laura, don't push me," Michael snapped.
"I've never doubted your ruthlessness towards me," Laura said weakly. "Are you sure you don't want a divorce today? If not, I might not be so cooperative next time. To be honest, I'm not thrilled about this either. If I see you and Megan getting too cozy, I won't be happy and will cling to my position as your wife. You'll never be able to make it up to Megan."
Michael looked at the pale and haggard Laura in the wheelchair, and a hint of sadness finally appeared in his eyes. "Laura, why do you have to do this? If it weren't for the things you did to hurt Megan, we wouldn't be here today. I really did like you."
"Thanks, I'm really touched," Laura said impatiently, fearing she might throw up if she listened any longer. "Do you want a divorce or not? Just say the word."
"Fine." Michael lowered his head and nodded.
Cassie pushed Laura into the civil court.
Michael had already arranged everything. They didn't handle it in the hall but signed the divorce papers in an official's office.
The paperwork was completed quickly.
Michael looked at the divorce decree in his hand, feeling a mix of emotions and a tinge of loss.
He still vividly remembered the day they had got their marriage certificate.
"Laura, when I proposed to you, I really wanted to spend my life with you," Michael said sadly. "It's a pity you never believed me. If we had a bit more trust, maybe we wouldn't be here today."
Laura glared at him. "Why are you being so tactful? Why don't you just say, 'Laura, if you weren't so stupid, we wouldn't be getting divorced. You didn't know how to cherish what you had.'"
Michael, exasperated, said, "As long as you understand. I promised you three days. Tomorrow is the last day. If you don't send Maeve over, I'll call the police."
With that, he turned and walked away briskly.
Laura looked down at the marriage certificate in her hand and laughed, tears streaming down her face. "I'm finally divorced. I can start over."
"Congratulations. When you're feeling better, I'll celebrate with you," Cassie said, holding her hand. "Let's go back to the hospital. I even hung a celebratory banner in your ward."
"So touching," Laura said helplessly.
Cassie playfully winked. "Congratulations. Just like me, you've come out of a painful marriage. Look how happy I am every day."
"That's true. I almost forgot you're not married either," Laura said, feeling much better. "You have to wait until I get married again before you can get married. You can't leave me alone."
"No problem." Cassie chuckled, though Joseph might not be able to wait.
The next day.
After feeding Megan breakfast at the hospital, Michael's assistant whispered a few words in his ear.
His face changed suddenly, and he stood up. "Megan, I have an urgent matter at the company. If you need anything, talk to the nurse."
"Michael, is something wrong at the company?" Megan asked nervously, observing his expression.
"I'll handle it. Don't worry," Michael reassured her before walking out of the ward and immediately pulling out his phone.
Today's trending topics were #The Jude Group Heir Betrays Marriage and #President's Goddaughter's Marriage Crisis. He clicked on the articles and saw tons of media outlets had posted photos of him sneaking in and out of Megan's apartment late at night, plus shots of him rushing Megan to the hospital after she got scalded by hot water during a meeting with Laura. There were even records of Megan's miscarriage.
A journalist had posted a long article online based on insider info: [According to sources, shortly after Laura gave birth, Michael's old flame came back, and they quickly hooked up. But the Jude Family was against it, so Michael hid his lover in an apartment, giving her the best food and drink and even hiring a servant to take care of her. Laura, who was happily planning a wedding with Michael, found out recently, leading to their breakup. It's said that Laura has moved into the Presidential Palace, and she and Michael are now separated.]
Netizens were always deeply disgusted by affairs.
Especially since Laura was the President's goddaughter, and the President had been super popular since taking office.
After the news broke, almost all netizens came out to condemn it.
[How shameless! I saw photos of Michael and Laura with their baby just a few days ago. Their kid is less than three months old, and he's already with his lover, who is even pregnant. Disgusting! Michael should die.]
[Can I still believe in love? They were supposed to have a grand wedding, and Laura was happily planning it while Michael was out having an affair. If it were me, I'd take a knife to those scumbags.]
[As a woman, I can totally understand Laura's feelings. Michael betrayed her shortly after she gave birth. I curse Michael and his mistress to die horrible deaths.]
Michael's face turned grim as he read. Today was the deadline he had given Laura, and now this had suddenly come up. He didn't believe it had nothing to do with Laura.
He angrily dialed Laura's number. "Do you think that by making this public, I'll compromise? Laura, you're pushing my limits. I gave you a chance, and you didn't take it. Don't blame me for being ruthless."
"Are you crazy? I didn't put that stuff online," Laura said, having just seen it herself. She didn't feel good about being pitied by so many people.
"Let me tell you, with the things Nathan did to you and your kidnapping of Megan, I can easily make people think you deserve to be alone," Michael said viciously.
Laura was utterly disappointed. "Michael, there isn't a more shameless ex-husband in the world than you."
Laura hung up the phone with a snap.
As Michael was about to find someone to handle the PR, he suddenly received a call from James. "Get back to the company immediately. Eighty percent of the Jude Group board members are demanding your removal. There's a board meeting at nine this morning. You need to explain yourself to the board."
Michael was slightly stunned.
It seemed Derek was behind Laura.
Michael wanted to see how much influence Derek, a political figure, could have on the Jude Group.
On his way, Michael called Aaron, but Aaron didn't answer.
Michael frowned.
By the time Michael arrived at the company, the board meeting was about to start.
