Chapter 1049 We Already Can't Explain Things Between Us

Joseph did not give up.

Instead, he grabbed Cassie tightly, holding her delicate body in his arms.

The evening breeze stirred her silk nightgown.

"Cassie, divorce him. David doesn't deserve you," Joseph said.

Cassie was stunned for a moment, then came to her senses and pushed him hard. "Joseph, let go. If someone sees us in the middle of the night, I might be beaten again. Do you want to see that?"

Joseph's heart ached at her words, and he let her go.

Although he wanted to hold her like this forever, he was more afraid of her getting hurt because of him.

"Joseph, even if I ever get a divorce, it won't be because of you. Stop flattering yourself," Cassie said coldly, deliberately being harsh.

"Cassie, whether I'm flattering myself or not, you know best." Joseph looked at her with a slight smile. "Tell me, if it were another man, would you have helped him like that the other night?"

Just thinking about that night made Cassie blush with embarrassment.

She glared at him. "I did it for Sophia and Oliver's sake. I didn't want them to lose their father."

"I understand. Thank you." Joseph continued to look at her intensely, his gaze so hot it seemed to burn her.

Cassie couldn't stand it any longer. She turned and opened the car door. "I don't want to deal with you. I'm going back to sleep. Don't go looking for trouble with David, or I really won't be able to explain it."

"We already can't explain things between us," Joseph said with a smile.

"Joseph, shut up," Cassie shouted, unable to bear it any longer.

As a result, her facial muscles twitched, and her face started to hurt again. She gasped repeatedly.

Joseph panicked. He had left his medicine at the entrance of the Chapman Mansion and didn't know what to do. He could only try to comfort her like he did with Sophia. "Does it hurt a lot? Let me blow on it for you."

He leaned in and gently blew on her face.

Cassie was speechless, thinking, 'Does he think I am a child?'

"You don't need to do this. Just don't make me angry," Cassie replied.

"When did I make you angry? I'm just stating the facts. You don't need to persuade me about David. He hurt you. If I let it go, I wouldn't be a man," Joseph said coldly.

Hearing this, Cassie smirked. "Are you sure you're still a man? Don't think I haven't seen."

Joseph's face turned dark with humiliation. There was nothing more embarrassing than being insulted by Cassie. "That's just temporary. I'm undergoing treatment. Soon, I'll show you my true abilities."

"Pervert." Cassie rolled her eyes at him.

"Who's the pervert first?" Joseph looked innocent. "Cassie, you don't want me to go after David because you want to protect me. I have no power now, and anyone can bully me. You're afraid I'll be retaliated against by David."

"Joseph, you're insane. I don't want you to complicate my marriage by going after David," Cassie retorted.

"I don't believe you." Joseph's gaze fell on her chest. "I can tell you were really anxious to come down and stop me just now."

Cassie was stunned. Following his gaze, she realized she had rushed out without even wearing a bra. Her face turned blushed.

Ignoring Joseph, she got into the car, started it quickly, and drove away.

After driving a short distance, she looked in the rearview mirror and saw Joseph standing in the night. Her heart skipped a beat.

She thought of Arthur's sudden death. When she thought Joseph might also disappear suddenly, she gripped the steering wheel tightly.

After Cassie's car disappeared, Joseph was about to get into his car when he received a text message from Cassie: [Joseph, don't go after David. Promise me, or I'll never speak to you again.]

Joseph's lips curved into a slight smile.

He thought to himself, 'Cassie, you clearly care about me. Even if you say you don't love me anymore, I still hold a special place in your heart.'

He replied: [Okay, I won't go after him. Will you speak to me for the rest of your life?]

There was no response after he sent the message.

However, he wasn't disappointed, as he knew she wouldn't reply.

As for David, Joseph had agreed not to go after him, but given his personality, he had to teach David a lesson..

Since David liked to maintain his gentlemanly image, Joseph would make sure he lost face.

When Cassie returned to the Chapman Mansion, she picked up the bottle of medicine.

After applying a little, the redness and swelling were much better the next day.

The next day, when she took Sophia and Oliver to kindergarten, she sternly questioned them, "Did you eavesdrop on my conversation with your grandpa in the room last night?"

"What did you say?" Sophia looked outside evasively. Although she usually loved to lie, she always got nervous in front of Cassie.

Oliver also looked out the window, not knowing what to do.

"Oliver, you're the most honest. Answer me," Cassie said.

"Sorry, Mommy." Oliver lowered his head in guilt. "We didn't mean to. We just wanted to know who hit you."

"Then you immediately told Joseph?" Cassie remembered what she had said yesterday and suddenly got nervous. "What else did you tell Joseph? You didn't tell him everything I said, did you?"

"No, absolutely not." Sophia shook her head vigorously. "We definitely didn't tell him that you don't love David and only married him out of gratitude."

Cassie was embarrassed. Sophia and Oliver had heard everything. "Don't ever tell Joseph those things."

She thought to herself, 'If Joseph heard, he would definitely cling to her even more.'

"Got it." Sophia and Oliver nodded.

However, when they got to the kindergarten gate, as they were getting out of the car, Sophia suddenly asked, "Mommy, if you don't love David, do you still like Joseph?"

Cassie felt a headache coming on. "No, I don't like him a long time ago."

"If you don't like him, I'll do everything I can to ruin his relationships so he never finds a wife," Sophia said, then held Oliver's hand and walked into the kindergarten.

Cassie rubbed her forehead helplessly.

After dropping off the kids, she went straight to work.

But as soon as she entered her office, she found David waiting for her. He was holding a bouquet. When he saw her, he immediately handed her the flowers and opened a gift box, revealing a limited-edition diamond necklace. "Cassie, please don't be mad. It was my fault that day. I shouldn't have hit you. I was wrong. After you left, I really regretted it. I've never lost control like that before."
