Chapter 921 Joseph, What's Going on with You?
"Megan, I love you a lot," Michael hastily grasped her hand, speaking fervently. "For you, I can give up everything."
"What... what do you mean?" Megan had a foreboding feeling.
Michael gave a bitter smile. "My sister said that if I don't acknowledge Laura as my fiancée, the Jude family will suppress the Ocean Blue group. Julia, that cold and ruthless woman, would really do it. If the Jude family pressures us, I might lose everything. But it doesn't matter; I still have some savings. As long as I have you, that's enough."
Megan fell silent. She was completely stunned.
She already despised Michael for being stripped of his inheritance from the Jude Group. If he had lost the Ocean Blue group as well, what would he have left? Would he have lived off his meager savings?
Those savings would only last for a while.
By then, she might have to rely on Joseph's breakup fee to support both Michael and Nathan, those two good-for-nothings.
Moreover, if she stayed with a penniless Michael, she would be ridiculed.
"Michael, I really appreciate how much you love me." Megan raised her tear-filled eyes. "I know how much you've sacrificed for me, but I can't let you ruin yourself. The Ocean Blue group is something you put a lot of effort into after graduation. It holds so much of your hard work. A man should prioritize his career, and I really don't want you to be looked down upon because of me."
Michael was deeply moved. "Megan, it doesn't matter. As long as I'm with you, I don't care about being looked down upon."
Megan felt frustrated; Michael must have been an idiot, but she couldn't show it.
"But I care about it. I can't let you be looked down upon. Besides, you might not regret it now, but who knows about the future?" Megan sighed softly. "If we can be together, I want this relationship to be without regrets."
"What do you mean? Are you pushing me away?" Michael was in agony.
"No, let's just separate for now. After all, it's just acknowledging Laura as your fiancée; you two aren't married. During this time, I'll behave well and try to win the approval of the Jude family. I believe that for two people to be together, they need the support of their parents. I don't want to see you in conflict with your family. I also hope you can grow quickly to the point where no one can threaten you. I believe you can do it." Megan gazed at him encouragingly.
Michael was completely moved but also felt more heartache for her. "But Megan, if I acknowledge Laura as my fiancée, you'll be ridiculed."
"For you, being ridiculed doesn't matter, as long as... you have me in your heart." Megan sighed softly, her eyes downcast, showing a look of sorrow and helplessness. "Maybe it's God's way of tormenting me. My love life is always full of twists and turns."
"Megan, thank you for your sacrifice." Michael raised his hand. "I swear I will love you forever. I will marry you. Just wait for me. I will grow quickly. I was too foolish before and used to lack ambition. I will develop the Ocean Blue group into a top global cosmetics brand as soon as possible. I am confident I can do it in a year. By then, no one can stop us from being together."
"Alright, I'll wait for you," she replied.
After leaving Seaside Haven, Michael, feeling agitated, called Lucas out.
When he arrived, he found Joseph there as well, dressed in black from head to toe, looking like the Grim Reaper.
"Why are you here too?" Michael now found Joseph extremely displeasing.
Joseph lazily raised an eyebrow and glanced at him. Lucas quickly interjected, "Joseph heard you were in trouble and is very worried. Michael, we've all been good friends since childhood. There's no need to let a woman come between us like this."
"Is she just any woman? She's Megan!" Michael's tone was angry. "Joseph, in the end, Megan's misery is all because of you. If it weren't for you, she wouldn't be so opposed by the Jude family. She's truly a good girl. Even though I've wronged her, she still thinks of me."
"Is that so?" Lucas adjusted his glasses and exchanged a glance with Joseph.

Joseph raised an eyebrow. In the past, he might have admired Megan and thought similarly to Michael.
But now, he no longer loved Megan. Thinking calmly, he found Michael's behavior rather foolish.
He wanted to remind Michael that if he lost everything, no ordinary woman would like to be with him.
However, Megan's skill was to make her disdain for Michael seem like she was wholeheartedly thinking of him.
The more he looked at Michael now, the more he saw his former self. If he had once doubted Megan's character, he was now even more certain that she was not as simple and kind as he had imagined.
Unfortunately, he had hurt Cassie, who had once loved him deeply for Megan.
"Indeed... quite kind," Lucas said, exchanging a glance with Joseph and lightly coughing as he held his wine glass. "So, what do you plan to do next?"
Michael gave a bitter smile. "I can only pretend to be engaged to Laura to make the Jude family off their guard. Then, for Megan's sake, I'll work hard. I'll become so strong that no one in the Jude family can stop me. I was too lazy before, but I won't be anymore."
"Have you thought about Laura?" Joseph suddenly spoke up. "You violated her, and now you want to take advantage of her."
Michael was stunned. After a brief flash of guilt, he quickly said, "You're overthinking it. Laura isn't an ordinary woman. You don't know yet, do you? The Miller family is returning to Whisperlyn City today, and both families are having dinner together tomorrow. I think she's been plotting to latch onto our Jude family for a long time. I won't marry her."
Joseph frowned. "If Laura doesn't acknowledge being your fiancée after that incident, people will insult her. They'll say she ruined..."
"Joseph, what's wrong with you? Why are you always speaking up for Laura?" Michael interrupted angrily. "Others might not know, but you should. That woman took my thirty-year-old virginity. She should know about my feelings for Megan. If she insists on getting involved, she can't blame me for being ruthless."
