Chapter 1516 Falling in Love with the Wrong Person

"Hello, are you a friend of the guy who owns this phone? He's drunk at the bar. I'm a server here."

"Yeah, I am," Laura said, jumping to her feet. "Which bar? I'll be there in a sec."

After getting the address, she told the nanny a few things, grabbed her car keys, and sped off to the bar.

The streets were pretty dead this late at night.

Laura drove fast and got there in just over half an hour.

In a dark corner of the bar, Derek was slumped on a sofa, one hand over his eyes and the other clutching a bottle, looking totally out of it.

She walked over, saw the empty bottles on the table, and gave Derek a hard shove.

He moved his arm, revealing his glassy eyes. He looked at Laura with confusion and despair, the cut on his forehead still obvious.

Laura felt a pang of sadness.

She'd known Derek forever and had seen many sides of him, but never this broken and helpless one.

He seemed hell-bent on drowning his pain in alcohol.

He'd helped her so many times, and now she wanted to help him.

"Stop drinking. I'm taking you home," Laura said, taking the bottle from his hand.

"Leave me alone," Derek muttered, brushing her hand away and reaching for the bottle again.

Laura just grabbed his arm and pulled him up. "Come on, let's go home."

Derek staggered as she pulled him up, but he couldn't stand steady and fell against her.

Laura wrapped her arms around his waist, took a couple of steps back to steady herself, and just as she caught her breath, Derek suddenly hugged her tightly.

She was stunned for a moment, then instinctively patted his back and raised her voice, "I know you're hurting, but drinking won't fix anything."

The music was loud in the bar, and it was unclear if Derek heard her. He just buried his face into her neck.

"Let's go outside and talk. It's too noisy here. If you want to drink, we can find a quieter place," Laura coaxed him while helping him outside.

Derek leaned on her like a helpless child.

But shortly after they left the bar, Derek pushed her away and stumbled off to the side.

"Derek, if something's bothering you, you can tell me," Laura said, catching up and stubbornly grabbing his arm. "When I was at my lowest, I confided in you. So you can do the same with me."

Derek swayed and leaned against a tree, the moonlight casting a glow on his flushed cheeks, his face full of drunkenness. "What should I say? That I fell in love with someone I shouldn't have?"

He let out a mocking burp, his eyes filled with pain.

"Love?" Laura was confused for a long time.

She remembered the photo of Derek holding hands with a man and only now realized that Derek had fallen in love with a man.

If Derek were just an ordinary guy, she would have encouraged him to go after true love without hesitation.

But given Derek's status, some things were just off-limits.

And she was supposed to talk him out of it.

"Do you care about him that much?" Laura asked, feeling scared and out of her depth. "Think it through. If you go after this, your career's over. Sure, people are more accepting of homosexuality now, but you're the President's son, and you're in politics."

"What do you want me to do?" Derek cut her off, his eyes blurry with drunkenness.

Laura's mind was a mess. "That depends on what you want. If you really like men, you could switch to business. You're smart, you'd kill it. But honestly, I think you should like women. Have you ever been with a woman?"

Before she could finish, Derek suddenly leaned in and kissed her.

His lips tasted like alcohol and were ice-cold.

She stared wide-eyed, looking into Derek's intoxicated eyes. For a moment, she was completely frozen.

"You said women are soft and sweet, so I want to try," Derek's hoarse voice came as he gently sucked on her lips.

Laura was instantly thrown into confusion.

So Derek kissed her just to try it out?

Did he know who she was? Did he know their relationship made kissing totally off-limits?

"Laura, let me try," Derek said.

As she was torn, Derek's low, pleading voice, like that of a lost puppy, sounded again on her lips.

Laura froze completely.

She had intended to push him away forcefully, but his pleading softened her heart and left her at a loss.

She thought, maybe he really hadn't had much serious contact with women.

If he tried, he'd find women sweeter than men. Maybe she could make a gay man like women, then she could save Derek.

He was so wonderful and gentle. It would be such a waste if he were gay.

Especially given Derek's current situation, who knew how many people would scold him.

She didn't want him to be scolded.

So, should she risk herself?

In just a few seconds, countless thoughts flashed through her mind.

But as she hesitated, Derek had already fully invaded her lips.

Laura's thoughts were instantly scrambled.

She awkwardly stiffened her body, but Derek seemed natural, even domineering and passionate. He kept kissing her, the heat in his mouth making her legs weak.

It was clearly a winter night, but Laura felt like her whole body was burning up.

"That's enough," Laura tried to push him away, mumbling indistinctly.

"Don't move, your lips are so soft," Derek refused.

Derek let go of her shoulders, cupped her face, and kissed her even more fervently and recklessly.

Laura's legs really went weak. Derek turned her around, letting her lean against the tree behind her.

His kisses left her mind blank, her ears filled with his breathing, and her heart pounding wildly.
