Chapter 1719 "You made the first move on me."

Julia felt uneasy under his gaze. "What do you want to say?"

"Did you really quit?" Elliott asked hoarsely.

"Yes, I'm handing over my work. In a couple of days, I won't need to go to work anymore."

Julia fastened her seatbelt and noticed Elliott's gaze becoming even more unstable. "What about after that?"

Elliott paused, then irritably bit his lip. "Did you really quit because of me?"

Julia found his anxious expression amusing. How many times had he asked this question today? "Yes, my parents found out and scolded me. They probably think that with my status, they should decide who I marry. They just think that as the president of the Jude Group, I might get deceived, so I simply quit."

Elliott was stunned for a while. He could imagine what the Jude family parents had said, but Julia's decisiveness was hard for him to believe. "Can you really let it go? You've poured all your efforts into the Jude family since graduation."

"I actually prefer freedom over power," Julia explained seriously.

Elliott now fully believed what Derek had said.

She fought with Michael for the position so she could be free to be with Elliott.

But Elliott wasn't good with words when it came to feelings.

Especially since he had been single for so long, he was almost wooden.

All he could do was hold her hand tightly.

"You're hurting my hand," Julia suddenly winced in pain.

"Sorry," Elliott was, startled and quickly loosened his grip. "I was just thinking about something."

"What is it?" she looked at him.

Elliott's handsome face flushed, and after a moment, he coughed lightly and said, "Don't worry, no matter what you do or don't do in the future, I'll take care of you."

Julia sat up straight, looked ahead, and clicked her tongue. "You're still the same. You can't say sweet words. But when you used to scold me, you were quite good at it."

"I misunderstood you before," Elliott said awkwardly, feeling ashamed.

Julia shook her head, denying it. "You didn't misunderstand me. I was indeed selfish before. I liked you, knowing that there was little chance for us, but I still dated you. I promised to meet our parents after returning to the country, but I broke my promise. I even said hurtful things to make you give up, knowing you were a proud person, yet I still hurt your pride."

Elliott was silent for a long time before he said, "Can you tell me what you were really thinking when you broke up with me? I want to know the truth. You owe me that."

The car suddenly fell silent.

Julia's eyes trembled, and she turned to look at him, her eyes involuntarily stinging. "We were too young. Even if we tried to be together, our families wouldn't accept it. You had to return to Silverwood to inherit the family business, and I had to go back to Whisperlyn City to help my father stabilize the company. I also had to help Carl become president. I had no choice. The Carl family has taken care of me since I was a child. Everything I had was given by them. If I went against the Jude family, it could harm your Miller family."

Elliott understood and nodded vigorously.

His eyes burned slightly. After so many years, he finally knew the truth. "Why didn't you tell me the truth? If you had told me from the beginning, I wouldn't have hated you or misunderstood you."

"Elliott, you're so stubborn. If we broke up because of external reasons, you wouldn't have given up. You would have confronted my parents or given up your inheritance. If things got too big, our relationship would be exposed to the Morris and Jude families, which would be bad for your future. I just wanted you to follow the future you described to me."

Julia smiled bitterly. "I really hoped you would forget me and find a good girl in Silverwood to start over. But later, I found out you were still alone."

Elliott thought about it. If he had known Julia loved him and that the breakup was inevitable, would he have given up easily?

No.

In his youth, even though he wasn't good with sweet words, he placed love above all else.

He believed that nothing could stop two people who truly loved each other.

Looking back, Julia was more mature and rational than he was.

"Tell me, after you got married, was he good to you?"

Elliott suddenly gripped her hand tightly. In the dim light, his eyes burned intensely.

This question had been on his mind for a long time.

He had always been jealous of that man and didn't want to hear his name. But now, he was opening the wound himself.

Julia was stunned. "He was okay. Orval was a gentle and polite man. But when I married him, he was already very ill, bedridden most of the time. He got better for two months, but then caught a cold in the winter. He didn't last two years before he died. His family was also nice."

Elliott glanced at her with a strange tone. "Did you fall in love with him?"

"No," Julia pursed her lips, wanting to laugh. Was he jealous? Who asked him to bring it up?

She thought for a moment and tilted her head. "I like the cold-faced type."

Elliott cleared his throat, his heartbeat quickening.

He didn't say anything more.

After a minute of silence, he restarted the car.

Julia thought he was going to drive, but he suddenly leaned over and kissed her hard.

It was the kind of kiss that seemed to want to devour her whole.

Julia almost couldn't breathe from his kiss.

He usually seemed so cold. She just teased him a little, and he couldn't hold back.

She just wanted to see his cold face lose control, like before.

She almost forgot the hurt he had caused her.

Julia scratched his neck hard, her eyes coldly glaring at him.

"You tempted me first," Elliott complained dryly, covering his neck, his eyes showing a hint of grievance.

"Did I tempt you? You hurt me. Are you sure I tempted you? Are you the cold-faced type?" Julia threw out several questions. "Don't project yourself onto me."

Before she could finish, Elliott kissed her hard again.

"It's too late. I've already projected myself," Elliott's lips pressed tightly against hers, his magnetic voice spilling out sweet words. "I promise, I won't hurt you again. In the future, I'll make love to you gently. If you want it rough, I'll do it rough."
