Chapter 1481 You Are an Executioner
Michael's good looks were twisted with frustration.
He knew he had lost big time and could hear Derek's taunts.
It was unbearable. Michael would rather lose to Julia than to Derek.
Maybe it was because Derek had helped Laura so many times, and there was something going on between them.
"Derek, you used your position to hide the truth, and you still have the nerve to talk," Michael snapped, "You protect criminals and push me down. Is this what you believe in?"
"Yeah, I'm not as righteous as you. You even sent your own wife to jail," Derek shot back coldly.
"Laura's not my wife anymore. From the day she became a kidnapper, she lost that right," Michael yelled. "You better watch out. What you did today might come back to bite you. There are no eternal loopholes in this world."
"You're wrong. The kidnapping you mentioned is just your story. Got any witnesses?" Derek shrugged. "You mean those people from EchoReach who were with you that day? You sure they still want to back you up? Or maybe Megan, who saw Laura torturing her?"
Hearing this, Michael clenched his fists.
He seemed to be sinking into despair.
"Michael, when you had the biggest inheritance rights in the Jude Group, everyone was on your side. Now that you've lost that, everyone avoids you. You should know this feeling well."
Derek gave him a rare gentle look. "But this outcome is good. You've always felt guilty towards Megan, right? You thought Megan gave up her own happiness to bring you back to the Jude Family. Now everything's back to square one. You can finally be together. Megan's still alive, and you can be good to her for the rest of your life."
But now that Michael had lost the right to inherit the Jude Group, Megan might not care about him as much as she had been before.
Derek didn't say this out loud. Some truths were more fun when Michael figured them out himself.
When Michael saw Megan's true nature, it would be too late for regrets.
By then, Derek wouldn't let Michael have a chance to go after Laura again.
"Happy?" Michael laughed. "Megan is a quadriplegic and disfigured. How can she be happy? Derek, I never thought you could be so cruel. No matter how much you hate Megan, she's still a person. Don't you have any compassion?"
"Isn't having you by her side Megan's greatest happiness? After all, Megan loves you so much," Derek said sincerely, hiding the mockery in his eyes. "Otherwise, if Megan married you as a disabled and disfigured woman, she would feel unworthy of you."
"Shut up," Michael couldn't take it anymore and said angrily, "Derek, stop pretending. You've done all this because you want Laura. You'll never get Laura. She's your sister in name and my ex-wife. Being with her would make you the laughingstock of all of Madison. No one would accept you two being together."
"Even if I can't marry Laura, I can still protect her and be her rock, so no one can mess with her."
With that, Derek pulled out his car keys, unlocked his car, and opened the door.
He glanced back at Michael. "And you? Laura was your wife, the mother of your kid. How did you protect her? You feel guilty about Megan, but did you ever feel even a bit of guilt towards Laura? Even if Laura really hurt Megan, think about it. If your wife was always out all night with her ex, claiming she wouldn't cheat but ended up pregnant with his kid, wouldn't you want to kill her ex?"
Derek paused for a second and added, "If you had handled things right, you wouldn't have driven your wife to become so full of hate. You say Laura is vicious and selfish, but you're the one who pushed her to that. So stop blaming others. Even if she becomes a demon, you're the one who made her that way."
With that, Derek got into his car and drove off.
As the car moved away, Derek saw through the rearview mirror that Michael was standing there like a statue.
Derek sighed.
He didn't have to say those things to Michael. It was probably out of a sense of unfairness for Laura and frustration with Michael's selfishness.
Twenty minutes later, Derek's car pulled up in front of the military hospital.
Derek walked to the VIP ward and heard Luke's angry voice from inside, "Laura, you're injured, hospitalized, and divorced, and you didn't tell us? If we hadn't seen the news, we wouldn't have known you were divorced."
Rose was choked up. "We need to find Michael. Is he even human? He broke your rib. I don't care what status Michael has; today, the Jude Family must give us an explanation, or we'll go to the media."
Luke added, "Yeah, go to the media. Even if the Miller Family can't compare to the Jude Family, we can't let Laura be treated like this."
Derek knocked lightly on the door.
The voices inside stopped abruptly.
Elliott opened the door, looking pissed. He grabbed Derek by the collar. "You're just in time. Get someone from the Jude Family over here."
"Elliott, don't grab Derek," Laura, lying on the bed, quickly shouted. "Derek has helped me a lot during this time. He's been protecting me. If it weren't for him, I might have collapsed long ago."
Elliott looked at Derek for a moment, then let go of him and said angrily, "Where's Michael? Since he divorced Laura, I won't pursue it further. But since he broke Laura's rib, I'll just break one of his ribs."
"Elliott, you don't need to find Michael." Derek said calmly, "Actually, none of us in the Jude Family can accept what Michael did. So, after our discussion, just now, the Jude Group held a meeting and removed Michael from all his positions. Even James has decided to transfer the Jude Group's shares to Julia soon. This means Michael will not only be unable to hold any important position in the Jude Group, but he has also lost the right to inherit the Jude Group."
Derek's few words packed a lot of punch.
