Chapter 20 Do I need to pay? I don't have any money
"Up close, he's a total hunk. Plus, he's Arthur's uncle. Imagine showing up with a man who outshines Arthur in wealth, status, and looks. Olivia would be so jealous."
Thinking of Olivia's fake demeanor earlier, Cassie suddenly felt a bit excited.
"What are you two whispering about?" Noah asked, amused.
Cassie realized both Joseph and Noah were looking at them. She felt embarrassed. "We were talking about how luxurious this room is. We wouldn't be here without you."
"I thought you were talking about how handsome Joseph is," Noah said, winking.
Cassie was mortified. "Mr. Collins, you're joking."
"Let's order." Joseph casually opened the menu, ordered a couple of dishes, and placed the menu on the table.
Noah spun the lazy Susan, bringing the menu to Cassie. "Cassie, order something."
She coughed a few times and picked up the menu, ordering a few dishes like Joseph.
Laura, not thinking much, said, "There's a signature dish here that's pretty good and spicy. You like spicy food, right?"
The room fell into an awkward silence for a few seconds.
Then Noah laughed. "Of course, Cassie knows Joseph eats bland food. She's thinking of him."
Laura was taken aback and then gave Cassie a knowing look.
Cassie blushed furiously, feeling extremely awkward.
"No need to explain. We all understand," Laura said, patting Cassie's hand.
Cassie was on the verge of tears.
Joseph, who had been silent, glanced at Cassie from across the table.
Her face was already blushed.
Laura's eyes darted around, and she took out her phone, pretending to discuss renting a place with Cassie.
"Who's looking to rent?" Noah asked.
Laura sighed. "Cassie is. She got kicked out by the Brooks family and has nowhere to stay. Her card's been frozen, and she spent last night in a budget hotel. The room didn't even have a window, the sheets weren't changed, and it was really unsafe."
Cassie silently sipped her tea, thinking Laura was truly a great actress.
Joseph's brow furrowed slightly.
Noah turned to Joseph and complained, "Joseph, how could you let Cassie stay in a budget hotel?"
Cassie quickly said, "It's my fault. I fed Dakota chips, and it threw up in the middle of the night. By the way, how is Dakota now? Is it okay?"
Noah smiled. "Don't blame yourself. Dakota is..."
"It's not doing well," Joseph interrupted before Noah could finish. "Your apology is worthless."
Noah's expression turned strange, as he knew it clearly wasn't Cassie's fault.
Cassie's face turned pale. She had thought Dakota was getting better and that Joseph's anger had subsided, which was why he was helping her.
"What do you plan to do to make up for it?" Joseph suddenly asked.
Cassie looked confused. "Pay money? I don't have any."
