Chapter 1050 The Terrifying David
David's eyes were red. "That day, I was out of my mind because of Ralph's attitude and the situation between you and Joseph. I was so scared of losing you."
As he said, a look of pain suddenly appeared on his face.
"What's wrong?" Cassie was startled.
"It's nothing. I didn't get enough rest, and I feel a bit uncomfortable," David said, pretending to be nonchalant.
Cassie knew that he often felt unwell because he had lost a kidney three years ago while saving her.
Back then, the doctor had also said that he shouldn't be too stressed.
"Cassie, please come home, okay?" David suddenly knelt on one knee. "I promise I will never hit you again. Can we go back to how things were?"
Cassie looked at him quietly for a moment and then said softly, "Get up. I'll come back this afternoon."
David looked up in surprise. "Really?"
Cassie lowered her eyes. "I never blamed you. What happened that day was my fault."
"Don't say that. I know you didn't do it willingly. Joseph must have forced you," David interrupted her, looking evasive, "Let me put this necklace on you."
Seeing this, Cassie didn't say anything more.
After he put the necklace on her, David talked with her for a while before she made an excuse about having a meeting and asked him to leave.
Not long after he left, Cassie called Spencer. "If there are hidden cameras in the house, can you find them without alerting anyone?"
Spencer was stunned. "Did your house have hidden cameras?"
"It's not my house," Cassie said after a moment of silence, "It's David's villa. There might not be any, but just in case. I need to check something in his study, but I'm afraid there might be hidden surveillance."
Spencer was shocked for a while before he asked, "Did something happen between you and David?"
"I suspect he's hiding something from me," Cassie replied.
"But you had me follow him for a while before, and I didn't find anything suspicious," Spencer said, puzzled.
"Yes, so I dismissed my suspicions back then. But have you considered the possibility that David has known about you and Peter all along? Maybe nothing you do escapes his notice," Cassie said seriously.
Spencer's heart skipped a beat as he thought it might be true.
"I have a device that can detect surveillance if it's there," Spencer said.
"I'll contact you this afternoon. Come to the villa then, and be careful not to leave any traces," Cassie reminded him.
At 3:30 PM, she drove back to David's villa.
David had yet to return. After tidying up the bedroom, she notified Spencer to come over.
Not long after Spencer arrived, David came back.
"Spencer, what are you doing here?" David asked in surprise.
"I came to discuss something with Ms. Brooks. She saw that I was quite free recently and asked me to help out at the Peace Group. But I'm used to being free and don't want to go," Spencer said calmly.
"Indeed, you might not be used to working a regular job," David said earnestly, "If you like, I can arrange a job for you. I need someone to inspect pharmacies abroad."
"No way. The only people I can rely on are Spencer and Peter. I can't let them go too far," Cassie said, coming down the stairs and interrupting him with a smile.
"You're right. I wasn't thinking it through," David said, feeling relieved when he saw her smile. "You two chat. I'll cook dinner tonight."
He rolled up his sleeves and went to the kitchen.
Cassie walked over to Spencer and pretended to ask, "Have you decided which position you want?"
Spencer whispered, "The living room, dining room, your bedroom, and the kitchen all have hidden cameras. I didn't dare check other places because someone might be watching, but the whole house is probably covered."
Cassie was shocked.
Although she had asked Spencer to check, she didn't really believe there would be surveillance in David's house. It turned out the place was full of cameras.
This was David's home. No one but him could have done this.
It seemed that from the first day she entered this house, David had been closely monitoring her every move.
Fortunately, she hadn't rashly opened David's computer to investigate.
It was terrifying.
Cassie thought to herself, 'Wait, did that mean I am also being watched while taking a shower?'
"The bathroom doesn't have any," Spencer said when he saw her suddenly pale face.
Cassie let out a big sigh of relief.
If the bathroom had cameras, she would have gone down with David.
"The places with the most cameras are the living room, dining room, hallway, and your bedroom," Spencer continued, "You might be right. None of your actions have escaped the cameras. Even what you do in the bedroom is clear to him. No wonder David came back so soon after I arrived."
Cassie took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. No matter what, she couldn't panic. "Are the cameras well-hidden? I've lived in the bedroom for so long and never noticed them."
"Yes, they're top-of-the-line, as small as ants. They're probably hidden in the outlets or the ceiling lights. You wouldn't notice them with the naked eye. Even if you did, you'd think they were dust or debris," Spencer explained.
"Alright, I understand. You should go," Cassie said, pressing her temples.
Spencer said worriedly, "Maybe I should stay. I could say I'm here to protect you. It's dangerous for you to stay. Remember, David hit you last time."
"If you suddenly stay, David will get suspicious. I can't leave yet. No matter how dangerous it is, I have to stay."
Cassie was now more convinced that Arthur's death might really be related to David. She had to find evidence. If Arthur hadn't come to see her, he might not have died.
Besides, Kayla had reminded her, and she had promised to find out the cause of Arthur's death.
"By the way, get me some small cameras, too. If David can install them, so can I," Cassie said quietly.
"Okay." Spencer was still worried, but seeing her insistence, he had to leave quickly.
As soon as his car left, David came out, looking surprised. "Why did Spencer leave? I even made dinner for him."
