Chapter 1406 Testing
Michael was left speechless but kinda amused. "Babe, you jealous or something?"
"Get outta here, who's jealous?" Laura snapped, feeling pretty ticked off.
Why was she stressing and overthinking while he looked all smug?
Michael chuckled. "Babe, no need to be jealous. Just check for yourself if I've been with anyone else."
"Don't touch me."
"Nope, gotta prove my loyalty."
Laura couldn't shove him away, and he got his way.
Then, she knew he hadn't been with another woman. But she still couldn't shake off the bad vibes.
Laura was still feeling kinda off.
Next morning, during breakfast.
Laura suddenly put down her spoon and said, "Heard from Cassie that Megan's back in Whisperlyn City."
Michael's heart skipped a beat, but he played it cool. "Oh, really?"
"Yeah," Laura watched him closely. "Now Joseph and Cassie are hunting for her everywhere. If they can't find her, they might ask my godfather to get the community involved."
"Isn't it a bit much to bug my uncle with this?" Michael mumbled. "There's no solid proof Megan's a criminal. Didn't David deny it?"
Laura suddenly stared at him. "David denied it, but we all know the truth. You don't still feel sorry for Megan, do you?"
"Of course not." Michael blurted out. He wanted to say maybe Megan wasn't that bad.
But he knew that'd make Laura super mad.
Better to wait until Joseph got his memory back.
"I'm just worried people will say it's a small matter and we're bugging my uncle, causing unnecessary drama." Michael explained, trying to sound convincing. "If Joseph really wants to find her, he can ask me. The Jude Family has the ShadowNet Intelligence Agency, they're pros at tracking people down."
"Alright, I'll tell Cassie," Laura said. "Once we find Megan, she's gonna wish she'd never been born."
Michael stayed quiet.
He quickly finished his breakfast.
Talking about Megan messed with his head a bit.
He didn't know Laura was secretly watching him, feeling totally let down.
In the past, whenever Megan was mentioned, he always looked disgusted and annoyed, like Megan was his shame.
But now, she felt he seemed a bit dodgy.
Originally, Cassie just asked her to keep an eye on him, and they both still trusted Michael.
But now, she was starting to have doubts.
"Michael, you don't still have a soft spot for Megan, do you?" Laura suddenly said. "Don't forget how she used you before."
"I don't."
Michael dismissed it. Megan never actually used him.
Megan was good to him.
But he couldn't say that now.
"Don't worry, it's long over between me and her. I just want to live a good life with you and Maeve now." Michael said seriously.
Laura said nothing.
She just hoped he wouldn't let her down.
After breakfast, Michael drove her to the office. Once she was upstairs, he called Joseph. "Hey, heard you're looking for Megan?"
"Yeah." Joseph's voice was low. "That woman dared to mess with me. I'm gonna make her pay, slowly."
Michael felt uneasy. "You sure she's back? How do you know?"
"I have my ways. Why?" Joseph raised an eyebrow.
"I just heard from Laura. If you're looking for her, I can get the ShadowNet Intelligence Agency on it. No need to bug my uncle. It'll just cause unnecessary drama."
Joseph thought for a moment. "Alright, thanks."
"No need to thank me. We're buds." Michael touched his nose awkwardly. "By the way, how you holding up? Still can't remember anything from before?"
"Not exactly." Joseph was silent for a moment. "Sometimes when I'm asleep, I dream of some fragments. At first, I thought I was just dreaming, but they felt familiar, like I've lived them before."
"What kind of dreams?" Michael asked urgently.
"Seems like stuff between Cassie and me. It's a bit blurry when I wake up, but I've been dreaming about it a lot lately," Joseph said.
"That's awesome. Maybe you'll get your memory back soon." Michael was getting more convinced Megan was telling the truth.
"I don't know. For now, don't tell Laura. She might spill to Cassie. I want to surprise Cassie when I fully remember, but it seems tough." Joseph felt powerless.
"It won't be. Have faith in yourself." Michael encouraged him.
After hanging up, Michael quickly called Megan and filled her in on Joseph's situation.
Megan said softly, "This is a sign of recovery. Once he can remember his dreams, he'll gradually regain his memory."
Michael was overjoyed. "How long will that take?"
"About a month. If he dreams a lot, he'll piece it together faster and recover sooner."
"Will he also remember meeting Cassie in Silverwood?"
Megan responded softly, "I was too foolish before. If a man falls out of love, there's no point in forcing it. I realize I was wrong. I should have used my psychological skills to help people, not harm them."
"Don't say that. Everyone messes up." Michael felt sorry. "As long as you turn over a new leaf, it's fine. Joseph and the others know you're back and are looking for you everywhere. Stay hidden and don't go out."
"I will. I'm just worried about you." Megan was concerned. "If they find out you're hiding me, it could cause a big conflict, and Laura might get super mad and even divorce you."
"I can't let anything happen to you. Stay put. Once Joseph's better in a month, I'll take you to them and we'll sort it out together." Michael reassured her.
"What if they don't forgive me?" Megan asked.
Michael felt frustrated. "Don't worry, I'll protect you."
