Chapter 1472 Let's Get a Divorce
Cassie walked in and asked, "Why are your eyes all red? Did you cry while I was gone?"
Laura gave her a quick rundown of what Derek had said.
Cassie's face got serious. "Could be. Now it all depends on what Megan tells Michael when she wakes up."
Megan woke up the day after her surgery, still freaked out.
The moment she saw Michael, she broke down. "Michael, why did you come so late?"
As she tried to move, she realized her hands and feet were useless. The memories of that night came flooding back, and she felt completely hopeless.
She was disabled.
She was ruined.
Her face was messed up.
"Megan, I'm so sorry." Michael's heart ached seeing her pale face. "It's my fault for being late. I never thought Laura could be so cruel. I'm really sorry. I'll take responsibility."
He held her hand, his eyes red.
Megan was shocked. "Laura?"
"You didn't know it was her?" Michael was surprised.
Megan's body was broken, but her mind was still sharp.
She remembered what the masked woman said and thought it was Nina. But she didn't believe it; Nina had to be dead.
Cassie and Laura seemed unlikely, especially Laura. She couldn't imagine Laura doing something so cruel.
Megan didn't know how Michael figured it was Laura, but it worked for her. In her current state, she could only rely on Michael's guilt to survive.
She couldn't leave Michael; the woman in the shadows was too scary.
She had a feeling that as long as she was alive, that person wouldn't stop.
"So it was Laura, no wonder." Megan curled up, crying in fear. "I didn't see clearly. It was dark, and the woman wore a mask. She threw me into a filthy barrel. I fainted. When I woke up, she kept torturing me. She called me a homewrecker, disfigured me, and broke my tendons. She said men would be disgusted by me. Michael, I'm so scared. Just let me die. Living like this is too painful."
"Megan, don't be afraid. I'm here." Michael was horrified but more convinced it was Laura.
"Megan, this all started because of me." Michael hugged her, deeply pained.
"I shouldn't have come into your life. It's not your fault." Megan cried, hugging his neck. "Michael, is it really Laura? I can't believe it."
"It should be Laura." Michael's eyes were full of hatred. "When I got there, the mask you mentioned was next to her, and she didn't deny it."
"Why would Laura do this to me? I never meant to ruin her marriage." Megan cried in despair.
Michael's emotions were all over the place. "Megan, when the doctor saved you yesterday, they said you had a miscarriage. You were two weeks pregnant."
"I was pregnant?" Megan was stunned, looking incredulous.
"Yeah," Michael nodded, his face full of pain. "But it's gone now. Megan, tell me, whose kid was it? I was drunk that night. Did we...?"
Megan gently touched her belly, tears streaming down her face. "Michael, I didn't want to tell you. That night, I thought of it as fulfilling a dream. I thought that when I went abroad, I'd be satisfied with the memory of that night. And I knew you couldn't leave Laura. I just wanted to see you happy. My child, my poor child."
Megan was truly heartbroken.
That child was her ticket into the Jude Family.
Now that the child was gone, Megan had to find another way.
"You're too foolish," Michael said, stroking Megan's long hair.
As he had guessed, Megan had sacrificed too much for him, and he could never repay her in this lifetime.
He didn't even dare to tell Megan that she could never get pregnant again.
But it didn't really matter to him; Michael already had a child.
"By the way, Michael, was Laura arrested?" Megan asked timidly.
Michael's body stiffened, and he couldn't look her in the eyes. "I'm sorry, Megan. I wanted to call the police, but my uncle, grandfather, and even my mom pressured me not to. Although my career is doing well, I don't have the power to go against my uncle."
The light in Megan's eyes gradually dimmed. After a long time, she said sadly, "I understand. Then don't call the police. I can't let you ruin your career for me."
"Megan, I'm sorry." Michael hugged her tightly, closing his eyes and making a decision. "I owe you too much. I will divorce Laura and marry you. I will spend my life making it up to you."
"No." Megan quickly pushed him away. "I can't marry you. In my current state, I would only drag you down and make you a laughingstock. Michael, let me go. Let me fend for myself."
"How can you be so foolish?" The more Michael listened, the more heartbroken he became. He regretted ever liking Laura. Megan was the one truly worth cherishing.
Even in her current state, Megan was still thinking of him.
"Don't say anymore. I've already decided. I'll go find Laura this afternoon to get a divorce," Michael said.
Megan lay on his chest, but she couldn't feel happy at this moment.
Michael was finally willing to marry her, but Megan didn't want it at such a cost. She regretted returning to the country, but unfortunately, there was no turning back.
That afternoon, Michael took the agreement to the military hospital to find Laura.
After many days, they met again, and they were like enemies.
"Let's get a divorce. A vicious woman like you doesn't deserve to be my wife," Michael coldly threw the divorce papers onto the bed, his eyes filled with hatred and disgust. "You make me sick."
Laura's eyes widened. If she weren't feeling unwell, she would have stood up on the spot and slapped him.
But now, Laura was so angry that her chest heaved, and her rib faintly ached.
"What a coincidence, I think a fool like you doesn't deserve to be my husband either," Laura sneered, reaching out. "Cassie, let me see the agreement."
Cassie handed it to her and also took a look.
