Chapter 1379 Still Want to Pester My Wife

"Isla, I told you, we're done."

Benjamin yanked his hand back, looking exhausted.

Isla's face turned red with anger. "I don't agree! I love you! Remember when you promised you'd never let me down and marry me? How can you do this to me?"

Back in the day, Benjamin might've felt a bit guilty, but after all the drama in Whisperlyn City and seeing her cozying up to someone like Olivia, he was over it.

Since he got back to Silverwood, Benjamin had been super annoyed.

"Are you sure?" Benjamin let out a bitter laugh. "When did you fall for me? Three years ago? Or even earlier?"

Isla was stunned and started crying softly. "In the end, you just want to get back with Laura and ditch me. The Miller Family is thriving, and the Tarro Family is falling apart. But don't forget who caused our family's downfall."

"Of course, it was you."

A mocking voice came from behind.

Isla's throat tightened as she turned to see a tall guy in a black shirt strolling towards them, hands in his pockets, looking all cold and disdainful.

Her mind went blank.

She recognized him; she'd seen Michael once in Laura's neighborhood.

This was the guy who had beaten Benjamin badly.

Back then, Isla hated this guy and even tried to challenge the Jude Family's power. But with Olivia gone, Isla realized she was powerless.

Now, Isla couldn't afford to mess with the Jude Family.

Her face went pale.

Benjamin froze too, but he was a bit calmer. He looked past Michael and saw Laura and her friends chilling on a bench not far away.

So Laura was here too.

That meant she had seen the whole thing.

Laura deeply resented Michael.

How boring, why did Michael have to butt into their argument?

"Should we go over there?" Lily asked, looking interested. "Don't you want to humiliate Isla?"

"It's all in the past," Laura said, having truly moved on. She didn't care about someone like Isla anymore.

Even Benjamin barely got a glance from Laura before she looked away.

Laura and Benjamin had already cleared things up; there was nothing more to say.

Seeing her indifferent back, Benjamin felt a deep sense of sorrow.

Two people who once loved each other had ended up as strangers.

Of course, Benjamin understood that their statuses were no longer the same. Laura was a princess, the daughter of the Miller Family, while he was just the fallen young master of the Hayes Family.

"Benjamin, let's go," Isla anxiously tugged at him.

With Olivia gone, Isla didn't dare provoke Laura and Michael anymore.

"Hold up, don't be in such a rush to leave," Michael sneered, curling his lips. "Weren't you and Olivia like partners in crime? Oh, by the way, your buddy Olivia turned out to be a total fraudster. Her whole family got busted for a multi-billion-dollar scam. I remember you were tight with her. Aren't the cops looking into you too?"

"No, I didn't," Isla panicked, her face going pale as a ghost. "I barely knew Olivia."

"Really?" Michael laughed wickedly. "No way. Olivia helped you get Benjamin out of jail, and now you're saying you barely knew her? I'm not buying it. I think you need a good grilling."

Michael pulled out his phone.

Isla quickly turned to Benjamin, pleading, "Benjamin, I swear I didn't know. Please help me. I was just trying to save you back then. Laura's right there, please help me. I don't want to go to jail; I'm innocent."

Benjamin couldn't deny it. He had to admit that Isla did help him get out of jail back then.

He looked at Laura with a complicated expression and then started walking towards her.

But as soon as he took a step, Michael blocked him.

"What are you doing? Trying to bother Laura?" Michael warned, "Get lost."

Benjamin blushed with embarrassment, but he couldn't ignore Isla's desperate pleas. He forced his way through, "Laura."

Benjamin stood next to Laura, looking at her face up close.

He realized that Laura's face was a bit rounder than before, but she looked more radiant and her skin was flawless.

The gap between them was huge.

"What's up?" Laura asked calmly, her gaze indifferent.

Benjamin felt a sharp pain in his chest and suddenly didn't know what to do, "I..."

"He wants to plead for Isla," Michael lazily walked over. "Isla was close to Olivia, who's involved in a massive fraud case. Isn't it normal for her friends to be investigated? Benjamin probably can't stand the thought of Isla being investigated."

Benjamin panicked, "It's not like that, I just..."

"So you're here to plead for Isla?" Laura interrupted, looking at Benjamin.

Benjamin's throat tightened, and he finally nodded. "I admit Isla may have done a lot of bad things to you, but in Olivia's case, she might really be..."

"Are you sure?" Laura smirked. "Do you know Olivia is involved in a massive national fraud? Are you willing to vouch for Isla? Have you thought about what you'll face if something goes wrong? Think of your parents! When you were in jail, they sacrificed so much for you, even going so far as to kneel at the Miller Family's door. Act your age! You need to be more mature."

Benjamin felt extremely embarrassed.

In the past, Benjamin always thought Laura was immature and unreasonable.

Now, he seemed foolishly immature.

Laura said calmly, "Even if Isla is investigated, it doesn't mean she'll go to jail. If she didn't do anything, the police won't do anything to her. But if she's involved, then jail is the punishment she deserves, right?"
