Chapter 1171 The Truth Comes to Light
Joseph's lips curled up as he got a bit frisky, unbuttoning his shirt to show off his collarbone. "When we get back, I'm all yours."
"Pervert," Cassie blushed, pushing him away.
"You started it," Joseph said, catching up and grabbing her hand.
Back at the Hernandez Villa, Sophia and Oliver rushed over. "Daddy, Mommy, where'd you go last night without us?"
"You got it wrong. Grandma got hurt, so we went to the hospital," Cassie explained, stroking their heads.
"What? Grandma's hurt? I wanna see her!" Sophia shouted, almost running out the door.
"Why did Grandma get hurt?" Oliver asked, calmer than Sophia.
"A bad guy tried to hurt our family, but he got caught last night," Joseph said, squatting down. "We'll visit Grandma this afternoon, and soon you can go to kindergarten."
"Really?" Oliver and Sophia were thrilled. They'd been bored stuck at home.
"Yep. Let your daddy get some sleep; he was up all night," Cassie told them gently.
"Daddy, go sleep. When you wake up, take us to see Grandma," Sophia said.
"Mommy, you should sleep too," Oliver added softly. "You must be tired."
"Let's all sleep together," Joseph said, wrapping his arm around Cassie's waist.
Cassie felt embarrassed, especially with Oliver and Sophia watching. Her face turned red.
But Joseph didn't give her a chance to protest and pulled her upstairs to the bedroom.
"We can't sleep together now," Cassie whispered.
"Why not? You think I can do anything right now?" Joseph grinned. "I'm exhausted."
"Pervert," Cassie said, pinching his waist lightly, making him laugh.
"Since you called me a pervert, maybe I should prove it," Joseph teased, grabbing her waist and kissing her.
After a deep kiss, he carried her to the bed.
Cassie thought he was going to do something, but he just put his arm under her head. "Rest."
Cassie looked at his handsome face for a while and slowly fell asleep.
When she woke up, she heard Oliver and Sophia laughing.
She opened her eyes to see Sophia's face right in front of her.
Startled, Cassie tried to sit up but found herself in Joseph's arms.
Joseph woke up when Cassie moved. He saw Oliver and Sophia on the bed and was speechless.
"Mommy, you're blushing," Sophia teased. "Daddy, Mommy, you two are sleeping like kids, hugging each other."
Cassie's face turned even redder. "I was using your daddy as a pillow."
"Really?" Sophia looked puzzled.
Oliver whispered, "You're lying. I heard when parents sleep together, they can have a baby."
"You want another baby?" Sophia's eyes widened, then she got teary. "Aren't Oliver and I enough? I don't agree."
Cassie and Joseph felt awkward.
"Oliver, who told you that? Your mom and I were just sleeping," Joseph said, trying not to laugh. "You two are always around; we don't need another baby to disturb us."
"How are we disturbing you?" Sophia asked, confused.
"Daddy means we're always with Mommy," Oliver explained. "We're in the way."
"That's not fair," Sophia said angrily. "We even didn't mind you taking our Mommy. Go away."
Sophia crawled over, pushed Joseph aside, and sat in Cassie's lap. "Mommy, you've been sleeping forever. When are we going to see Grandma?"
Cassie checked the time; it was already 3 PM. "Let's go now."
As they were about to leave, Joseph got a call from the police station. "Marcus confessed to more crimes. The police need me. You and the kids go ahead; I'll have Nathaniel protect you."
Cassie nodded.
At the police station, the officer handed Joseph Marcus's confession.
After reading it, Joseph was silent for a while.
He hadn't expected Marcus to have done so many bad things.
Marcus seemed scared Joseph would hurt Hugo, so he confessed everything.
"Keep interrogating him to see if he has any accomplices," Joseph said.
"We will, but he was injured during the arrest. He needs a couple of days to recover before we continue."
"Thanks." Joseph left with the confession.
He drove to the hospital but went to Lucas's office instead of Mabel's ward.
Lucas had just finished with a patient. He took off his stethoscope and lightly punched Joseph's shoulder, smiling. "Congrats, Mr. Hernandez, you're about to be the richest man in Madison again."
Joseph looked serious and said nothing.
"Come on, don't be so serious. I talked to Mabel's doctor; she'll be fully recovered in a month," Lucas said, still smiling.
"I just came from the police station. Marcus confessed to some things." Joseph handed the confession to Lucas. "Three years ago, for Joyce's death, Nina was framed. Marcus planned it all."
Lucas stiffened as he looked at the confession.
Seeing Lucas didn't take it, Joseph took it back. "Cassie was right. After I sent Olivia away, Marcus rescued her, had her undergo plastic surgery to look like Joyce, and stay by my side. Joyce drugged me to make me lose my memory. When Cassie found out Joyce was actually Olivia, they played along, burned the real Joyce, and framed Nina."
Lucas turned away, his face calm but cold.
Only he knew how tight his chest felt, like he couldn't breathe for a few seconds.
