Chapter 61
"After enjoying a long-awaited dinner with Laura, Cassie returned home cautiously around ten o'clock. She didn't dare to turn on the lights, fearing that she might disturb someone inside.
""You're back quite early,"" Joseph's tall and imposing figure suddenly appeared at the bedroom door.
Cassie was startled, feeling guilty all over. Could it be that he had been waiting at home for a long time? Was he going to ask about the whereabouts of the one million dollars?
""I was wandering around and lost track of time,"" she replied.
Joseph turned on the living room light and paused for two seconds as his gaze fell upon her face. He then walked up to her and extended his hand.
""What are you doing?"" Cassie held her breath, not daring to move as his shadow fell upon her under the light. The atmosphere became strangely thin, especially when his warm index finger gently tapped the corner of her mouth, making the air ambiguous and tense.
Could it be...some kind of insinuation?
A hint of mockery suddenly flickered in Joseph's eyes as he pointed his finger in front of her.
Cassie blankly stared at his finger, noticing his neatly manicured fingernail. What was he up to? She was confused.
She blinked and cautiously bit his finger with her teeth.
Joseph's body stiffened, as if an unfamiliar electric current had instantly spread throughout his body. Staring at her, his dark eyes revealed an unimaginable glint. ""What are you doing?""
""Isn't this what you meant?"" Cassie released his finger, her voice innocent. ""First you tap my mouth, then you extend your finger...""
Joseph was struggling to comprehend her thought process.
""Cassie, what kind of dirty thoughts do you have in your mind?"" He was completely defeated by her. ""I wanted you to see the oil on my finger. Did you go out for a late-night snack? You haven't wiped your mouth properly.""
Cassie was embarrassed. She wished she could dig a hole and hide in it.
She could only brace herself and say, ""Well, it's not my fault. Your fingers are so beautiful that I can't control the suppressed feelings in my heart when I see you.""
Joseph retracted his burning finger and saw her blushing like an apple. She was confessing shamelessly! He couldn't help but find it amusing. ""What are you holding?""
Cassie shivered and whispered, ""Your clothes. I'm sorry, I accidentally spent one million dollars on buying you clothes.""
Joseph frowned. He had never worn such cheap clothes.
But Cassie's heart sank. As expected, he was unhappy. ""If you think they are too...""
""Why are the two sets identical?"" Joseph interrupted her.
""Huh?"" She paused and then continued, ""Because... they are limited editions. There are only two sets in the whole country. I didn't want others to see you wearing the same clothes. That would be a waste, a disgrace. In my eyes, you are one of a kind. I think this color suits you the best, and I want to see you wear it often. I'll never get tired of it. Please forgive my selfishness.""
After explaining, she secretly observed his expression, only to find him staring at her with a smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
A touch of laughter.
""Not bad. Your ability to please has reached a new level."" Joseph reached out and gently pinched her cheek. ""If you can't be a good designer in the future, you can come work as my secretary. Seeing you please me every day might improve my mood.""
""Aren't you angry?"" Cassie asked, wide-eyed.
""Why would I be angry?""
