Chapter 1387 I don't care, you have to take responsibility for me.

She slapped the note right in his face, fuming.

No wonder he was acting all weird tonight.

She almost felt touched.

Jerk.

Michael was sweating bullets.

"No, I can explain."

"Forget it." Laura got up, eyes full of disappointment. She couldn't tell if she was more upset with him or herself for feeling a bit happy just a moment ago.

"You can't even tell me how you feel without a stupid note. You don't really like me, do you? You didn't even write this note yourself, did you? Probably got some love guru like Lucas to do it. He's been around the block with women."

Michael blurted out, "That's not true!"

"Can you swear you wrote this yourself?" Laura shot him a cold smile.

Michael's eyes darted away.

Laura shoved him aside and turned to leave.

"Don't go." Michael rushed after her, "I admit, Lucas helped me with the note, but some of the words are really mine. I didn't ask him to write it on purpose; I was just scared I wouldn't say it right and mess it up."

"When you proposed to Megan, did Lucas write a note for you too?" Laura stopped dead, glaring at him, "I bet he didn't."

Michael mumbled, "You're right."

"Alright, since you know that, you should understand how shallow your feelings for me are."

Laura was genuinely pissed and found it laughable. She wasn't that bad. She couldn't even compare to Megan. "If you had at least memorized the note and not peeked at it from your sleeve, I wouldn't be this mad. If you want to win me over, put in some effort. Changing clothes, switching cars, and playing the violin won't cut it."

Michael watched her walk away, growing more desperate.

"Laura, don't go."

He grabbed her forcefully, clearly seeing the disappointment in her eyes. He felt that if she walked out that door, it would be over between them. "I actually remember the contents. I was just afraid I'd be too nervous in front of you."

"Stop talking. I won't believe you anymore."

Laura pushed but couldn't budge him. Finally, she got completely furious, "Michael, I'm not an idiot. Your so-called love for me is just a ploy to keep me around so Maeve can have a home, and so you can sleep with me. You've loved someone before, so you know what love is, right? What you felt for Megan was love. For me, I'm just a suitable marriage partner, and I happen to be the biological mother of Maeve. As long as we get along and you don't keep hurting me, we can have a respectful marriage.. Just don't use love as an excuse to deceive me."

"I'm not. I admit that when we first got married, I thought my parents liked you, and you were pregnant, so you were a suitable marriage partner."

Michael regretted it deeply. He hadn't expected to cause such a big misunderstanding for Laura. "But in spending so much time together, I've fallen in love with you. If you're not there, I can't help but look for you. I also like us being together as a family. I used to like going out, but now with you and our daughter, I have no interest in that anymore."

"Enough, I don't wanna hear it."

Laura couldn't tell what was real and what was BS.

She'd trusted someone with her heart before and got burned bad. Now, she wasn't about to hand it over easily, especially since Michael had been hung up on another woman for years.

Michael looked down, totally lost.

She kept pushing him away, and his brain was a mess.

It seemed like she wouldn't buy anything he said.

Michael took a deep breath and cupped her face, "If you don't believe my words, I'll show you with actions."

With that, he kissed her hard.

Laura, annoyed, tried to shove him off.

Michael pressed her back until she was against the wall, kissing her deeply and passionately.

He'd wanted to do this for ages. Last night, with Maeve around, he'd held back.

His heavy breathing echoed in her ears, and Laura blushed.

This was a restaurant, even if they had the whole floor to themselves, there were still staff around.

No matter how much Laura pushed, she couldn't move him, and she could feel Michael's body heating up.

Just as he was about to lose control, Michael yanked the nearby curtain, covering them and creating a private space.

"Sweetheart, feel this. Isn't this love?" Michael's body pressed closer, and Laura immediately felt the change in his body.

Laura's heart raced, "Get away from me."

"We already have a kid together. Why are you still so shy?" Michael's arms were on either side of her head, his eyes intense, "Besides, I've never been like this with any other woman but you. Even with Megan, I never felt this way."

Laura almost blurted out, "What way?" But when she saw his eyes, she stopped herself and said, "Seriously?"

"I won't lie to you. That time at the hotel was my first time too. You took it from me while I was half-conscious. After that, I've never been with another woman," Michael's eyes shifted, and he lay on her, refusing to move. "You have to take responsibility for me."

Laura was dumbfounded. She couldn't understand how things had escalated to this point. She had been so determined to leave just moments ago.

"Come on, it was my first time too, Laura said.

"I'll take responsibility for you." Michael shamelessly hugged her, "But you gotta do the same. You think too highly of me. Do you really think I'm the kind of dad who'd sacrifice his happiness for his kid?"

Laura stayed quiet.

"Even though you love Maeve a lot, you're not the kind of mom who'd sacrifice her happiness for her kid either. Otherwise, you wouldn't have insisted on divorcing me before." Michael pouted.

Laura glared at him. "We both aren't like that." Michael shrugged and smiled, "So don't say I'm trying to keep you in the name of love just to give Maeve a complete family. I'm not that noble."
