Chapter 1752 Warning
Sarah started bawling her eyes out, and Tessa quickly pulled her aside, pointing at Bernice and saying, "Alright, remember this, it's not over. I'll call Mr. Nelson myself and make sure he deals with you."
Bernice scoffed, "Go ahead, call him. Who hasn't hooked up with Mr. Nelson? Unlike Sarah, I rely on my skills. Some people, without connections or cash, are just doomed to be blacklisted."
With that, Bernice strutted away.
Sarah glared at her retreating figure, her eyes burning with anger. "Guys, get the surveillance footage from the conference room and send it to Mr. Nelson."
She was determined to show Lucas just how cocky Bernice was.
No one knew Lucas better than she did. Lucas couldn't stand women who didn't follow orders.
Today, she had taken two slaps, and she was going to make Bernice pay tenfold.
In the company hallway.
Gabriella trailed behind Bernice, still in shock.
She couldn't believe Bernice had been so reckless. That was Sarah, someone no one in the company dared to cross, not even Max, who was always polite to her.
It's over, it's over.
Sarah would definitely complain.
"Bernice, you were way too impulsive just now," Fiona said angrily. "I know you can't stand Sarah, but you shouldn't have hit her in front of everyone. If Sarah complains to Lucas, you're going to be in big trouble."
"What do you think Lucas will do to me?" Bernice suddenly turned and asked.
Fiona sighed.
She didn't want to tell Bernice that Lucas valued Sarah highly. Compared to Sarah, Bernice would be at a disadvantage.
"Fiona, don't worry," Bernice smiled. "I know a lot of things. The reason I did this today is to make Lucas think that ever since I became his woman, I've gotten arrogant. He hates women who act spoiled the most. I've been with him for a while and haven't gained any benefits. I can't keep wasting my time with him without any status."
Fiona suddenly got it. When Lucas first got together with Bernice, she was pretty happy. But with Sarah's return, she realized it wasn't a good thing.
First, Lucas didn't take care of Bernice.
Second, Bernice would now incur Sarah's jealousy.
A relationship that brought no benefits was indeed unnecessary.
"Have you thought about the possibility that Lucas might blacklist you for Sarah?" Fiona voiced her concern.
Gabriella, behind them, said, "Mr. Nelson wouldn't be that harsh, would he? It's just two slaps. Bernice has been with him for so long."
Fiona gave a bitter smile.
Lucas was ruthless and heartless; there was no sentiment to speak of.
She didn't understand why Lucas valued Sarah so much. In her opinion, Sarah wasn't even qualified to be compared to Bernice.
"He probably won't. At most, he'll force me to apologize to Sarah."
Bernice reassured them, "By the way, you should check why Mr. Jenkins left the meeting in such a hurry. It seemed like something big happened."
"Right, I almost forgot about that. Gabriella, you take Bernice home first."
Fiona gave a few instructions and left.
After Bernice got home, Gabriella contacted her, "The regulatory authorities came earlier and investigated all of us. Mr. Jenkins was also called in for questioning."
"That serious?" Bernice feigned surprise."It's mainly because Mr. Trevino's scandal caused such a stir," Gabriella sighed. "But I didn't think even with Mr. Nelson's connections, we'd still get investigated. They say we might even get fined. Looks like Dreamscape Entertainment Group will have to lay low in the entertainment industry for a while."
After a quick chat, Bernice ended the call. Not long after, Lyndon called, sounding pumped, "Bernice, you're incredible. If the regulatory authorities are investigating Dreamscape Entertainment Group, this won't be brushed off easily."
"How are things on your end?" Bernice asked coolly.
"Honestly, I've been keeping a low profile," Lyndon said quietly. "Yesterday, I went to the office and felt like someone was tailing me. Plus, the new drama I filmed is having trouble getting approved."
"Then you should stage an 'accident,'" Bernice suggested. "Something that looks like deliberate retaliation."
"What do you mean?" Lyndon asked, confused.
"Everyone knows you exposed Mr. Trevino's scandal. If you have an accident now, what do you think the authorities will think?" Bernice hinted.
Lyndon suddenly got it, "Bernice, you're a genius."
"I'm hanging up."
Bernice didn't want to hear more. How Lyndon handled it was his business.
But she didn't expect Lyndon to be so ruthless. By the afternoon, she heard that the president of Stellar Entertainment Group had been hit by a car and was in critical condition in the hospital.
At the hospital.
When Lucas heard about it, he fumed, "Didn't I tell you to cancel any actions against Lyndon because the regulatory authorities are investigating Dreamscape Entertainment Group?"
"Mr. Nelson, it wasn't us," the person said. "We followed your orders and backed off. We were at home having dinner."
Lucas quickly realized that Lyndon had set him up.
It had been ages since anyone dared to pull a fast one on him.
Lucas almost smashed his laptop right then and there.
Just then, Max called, "Mr. Nelson, bad news. The regulatory authorities are hitting us hard, fining us a hundred million dollars and giving us a stern warning. If there's another scandal like Mr. Trevino's, they'll force us to reorganize."
A hundred million dollars was pocket change to him.
But the reputational damage from this was huge.
It would also make them a laughingstock in the entertainment industry.
Lucas had never taken such a big hit.
Lucas laughed coldly, "Fine, pay the fine."
Max couldn't help but gripe, "Actually, they were just giving us a verbal warning before. But Lyndon's incident ticked them off. When I went for questioning, they said Dreamscape Entertainment Group was too arrogant."
"Don't contact Herschel for now."
Lucas tossed his phone aside, took out a cigarette, and slowly lit it.
Not long after, Yancy called and chewed Lucas out, "You idiot, I told you not to mess with the entertainment industry. Now look, we're fined. The board members are warning you not to drag down the Nelson Group. Also, let me remind you, having ambition is good, but you need to understand how many people are jealous of us. This time, even James contacted me personally."
"What did he say?" Lucas took a deep drag on his cigarette.
"He said you should know when to be content."
Lucas chuckled, "The Jude family wants to put me in my place."
"This is just a warning. Know your limits," Yancy said before hanging up.
