Chapter 1796 Only Her Memory
Hearing Lucas's most regretful words, Nina wanted to laugh.
Was her goal just to make him retaliate?
Did he really think his feelings were important to her?
Lucas didn't understand at all that she was carrying not only Bernice's body, which he had forced, but also Nina.
"Do you think my hatred for you is only because you forced me to obey you?" Nina asked.
Lucas thought for a moment, "And because I exposed your relationship with Gary, used you as a shield for Sarah and the company, and diverted online attention?"
Nina chuckled lightly and waved to call the waiter over. "I'll have the smoked lamb chops, smoked octopus, and foie gras terrine."
"Sure." The waiter quickly noted it down and then asked Lucas, "Mr. Nelson, what would you like?"
"You decide for me," Lucas glanced at Nina.
Nina looked at him silently for a few seconds before saying with a half-smile, "Get Mr. Nelson the truffle lamb chops, smoked kingfish, and foie gras pudding."
A brief look of surprise flashed in Lucas's eyes, but he said nothing. After the waiter left, he asked, "I never told you what I like to eat. How did you know? From Max?"
"You really don't remember at all?" Nina's lips curled into a faint smile, but the smile didn't reach her eyes.
"Remember what?" Lucas frowned.
The topic had shifted too quickly; he had no idea what Nina was trying to express.
A mocking smile spilled from Nina's lips as she took a sip of the red wine the waiter had poured earlier.
It turned out that the entire relationship was only ever a memory for her.
These dishes were what Lucas had ordered when he first took her out during their initial dates.
Back then, Lucas had said to her with deep affection, "Baby, remember what I order; these are all my favorites."
And then? She still remembered, but he had forgotten.
"Lucas, my hatred and disgust for you are not just because you forced me. Do you think Megan's death lessens your guilt?" Nina suddenly asked sharply.
Lucas's eyes darkened, "Because of Nina?"
"That's right. Don't forget, you personally found a lawyer to send Nina to prison. Megan was the instigator, and you were the accomplice. Don't think you were just deceived by Megan; you did it, and you were wrong."
Nina laughed coldly, "Do you feel any guilt towards Nina?"
Lucas irritably tugged at his tie, "That's between me and her."
"She's dead. What business do you still have with her? Don't talk to a dead person about your issues; talk to the living."
Nina stared at him with intense loathing, "You never felt any guilt. I told you I was Nina's childhood friend, but to satisfy your own desires, how did you treat me? You're a pervert. People like you are destined to be lonely forever. No one will like you. Your family doesn't like you because they think you're terrifying, but you bring them benefits."
"You have many women around you, but they're all after your money and benefits. Your friends seem numerous, but it's all about mutual interests. When Michael was down and out, did any of those friends still contact him?"
"Joseph might be your only true friend, but he has a family now, and his wife hates you. You and Joseph can never be the same again. Otherwise, why didn't Joseph offer to help you when you went to prison?"
Lucas slammed the table and stood up, causing the wine on the table to spill.
The restaurant fell silent, and even the saxophonist stopped playing.
Lucas glared at Nina with bloodshot eyes, "Bernice, do you have a death wish?"
Reid and others at the door immediately came over when they heard the commotion. "Ms. Ramsey, is everything alright?"
"Nothing, I believe Mr. Nelson wouldn't be so impulsive as to act here." Nina raised her arm calmly, signaling them to step back. "You just got out of prison and want to hit me? There are cameras all around, and the street outside captured us entering the restaurant. Even if you have immense power, do you think my friends wouldn't stand up for me?"
Lucas sneered, leaning on the table, his tall frame exuding a menacing pressure, "But sometimes I'm like a madman. Want to try? We could both go down together. Isn't that what you want, to avenge Nina?"
"Forget it. I don't want to meet you on the way to hell. Too annoying." Nina said indifferently, "I despise you, but I never planned to keep seeking revenge. Getting you into prison for three months was my greatest achievement."
"You know your limits well, but your feelings for Nina are just as shallow. You don't even dare to continue seeking revenge." Lucas laughed coldly.
"I don't dare because I understand the value of life."
Nina's gaze was calm. Whether it was her or Bernice, they had both died.
She used to not cherish the life God had given her. She always felt living was meaningless.
But that dream made her realize Bernice had given her this life to continue living. She shouldn't let Bernice down.
She had many things to do.
She wanted to revive the Zenith Group.
"In the end, you're just scared." Lucas's lips curled in provocation.
For some reason, he hoped Bernice would seek revenge on him.
If she wanted to avenge Nina, he welcomed it.
No one knew, but Nina was like a thorn in his heart.
"If you were truly reborn, I'd challenge you. If you win, the Nelson Group is yours. If you lose, you leave the Nelson Group." Lucas issued a challenge, "You're the first woman to receive my challenge."
"I'm not interested in fighting for the Nelson Group, and I don't understand the medical industry. Our fight could destabilize the Nelson Group, affecting the hospitals below and delaying treatment for patients."
Nina shook her head, "I prefer being a shareholder in the Nelson Group. I believe in your abilities. I can earn billions of dollars annually just sitting at home. Why not?"
Lucas understood, his mouth twitching, "Sounds like I'm working for you?"
