Chapter 1743 "Bernice, are you threatening me?"

Max let out a bitter laugh, "Bernice is just another woman you sleep with. Now you're giving all the perks to Sarah, and Bernice is feeling left out. Why not let her start her own studio? She sees Sarah has one, and she doesn't. It's gonna cause problems."

"Bernice is our top earner right now. If she sets up her own studio, she'll start slipping out of our control, and our profits will take a hit. If you can, bring me a few more popular artists," Lucas's voice was icy.

Max sighed, "Lucas, you're something else. Bernice has been with you for so long, and you're treating her like a lover and a cash cow. Is she not even worth one of Sarah's legs to you?"

"Sarah's useful," Lucas said flatly. "As for Bernice, you can still get her some resources and endorsements."

"Forget it, pretend I never called."

Max hung up.

Lucas tossed his phone into the storage box.

After a three-hour surgery, Lucas finally stepped out of the operating room.

While he still looked fresh, the other doctors and nurses were wiped out.

"Mr. Nelson, a woman’s been waiting in your office for an hour," a young nurse said, her tone tinged with jealousy. "She's wearing sunglasses and a mask, looks like Bernice."

"Mr. Nelson, I envy you," an older male doctor teased.

"You guys go eat first," Lucas said, changing his clothes and heading over.

No one dared to gossip behind his back; after all, the hospital belonged to Lucas, and women showing up for him was a common sight.

In the director's office.

Lucas pushed open the door to find Bernice lounging at his desk, flipping through his documents.

"Who said you could mess with my files?" Lucas's eyes flashed coldly.

He snatched the file from her hand. Seeing the order wasn't messed up, his expression softened a bit, but he was still far from his usual gentleness.

"I've been waiting forever, just killing time," Bernice said, annoyed. She did it on purpose, knowing Lucas was strict about his work and hated people touching his stuff.

She just wanted to piss him off.

"If you're bored, don't come here," Lucas said, exhausted from the surgery. Normally, he'd have the energy to deal with her, but not today. "And this is my workplace. I don't like women coming here to find me, got it?"

"You just don't like me coming to find you," Bernice laughed coldly. "If it were Sarah, it'd be different."

"Are you jealous?" Lucas sneered, "Know your place. Do you even have the right to be jealous?"

"Lucas, don't push it," Bernice's face fell. "If you don't respect me, why did you force me to be with you in the first place?"

Lucas tugged at his shirt collar, feeling a bit irritated. He had initially found Bernice's cold personality intriguing, different from other women. Plus, her eyes reminded him of Nina's. And the more she resisted, the more he wanted to conquer her.

He had to admit, he did have some interest in Bernice at one point.

But men, once they get what they want, they don't care as much.Lucas's face turned icy as he sat by the window and pulled out a pack of cigarettes from the drawer.

Seeing this, Bernice perched on his lap and grabbed the lighter from the drawer, lighting a cigarette for him.

Lucas glanced down at Bernice as she lit the cigarette. Her eyelashes were caked with mascara, and her face was plastered with heavy makeup. Sure, she was beautiful, but the smell of cosmetics made her seem just like any other woman.

The little interest he had felt vanished instantly.

"Why the heavy makeup today?" He wiped her face with his hand, saw the powder on his fingertips, and wiped it on her skirt with disdain.

Bernice stayed silent.

"Go wash it off," he pushed her away.

"I didn't bring makeup remover," Bernice pretended to be annoyed. "All women in the entertainment industry wear makeup. Doesn't Sarah do the same? Do you dislike her too?"

"Didn't you rarely wear makeup before?" Lucas said flatly.

"That was light makeup. I have a scene to shoot this afternoon, so I have to wear makeup to look good on camera," Bernice explained.

"Anyway, don't wear such heavy makeup when you come to see me," Lucas mocked. "Kissing you is like kissing a powder puff. I don't want to get cancer from sleeping with a woman."

Fuck, you deserve to get cancer and die early.

Bernice cursed him a thousand times in her heart.

"Okay, I won't do it next time," she replied obediently. "I came to see you today mainly for work."

"Max handles your company's affairs, not me," Lucas lazily opened the window and exhaled a puff of smoke.

"Is it that you can't handle it, or you don't want to?" Bernice took a deep breath, trying to suppress her anger. "Lucas, don't go too far. You came to my company, and now the whole crew knows I'm your woman. But you treat Sarah so well, even investing in a library to pave the way for her to study at Evergreen University. The drama that was originally mine was given to her. She can set up her studio, but I can't. If you like her so much, you shouldn't come to me."

"So?" Lucas raised an eyebrow nonchalantly.

"I want everything she has," Bernice straightened her back arrogantly. "I also want to study in the film department at Evergreen University. I've had my eye on that period drama for a long time. And I want to set up my studio."

Lucas laughed and looked at her, "Are you still dreaming?"

Bernice's face changed, and she stood up from his lap. "Lucas, what do you mean? I sleep with you, and you think you can just give me a bank card and be done with it? If you don't agree, I might slip up one day and expose Sarah for using her looks to get ahead."

"Bernice, are you threatening me?" Lucas narrowed his eyes.

"I have no choice. Do you know how people in the company laugh at me now? I hate Sarah, and I don't want to be stepped on by her."

Bernice looked like she couldn't take it anymore. She was already wearing makeup, and her lips were painted bright red. When she got angry, her greedy look made Lucas feel inexplicably annoyed and tired.

"Going to Evergreen University is impossible. There's only one spot," Lucas adjusted his glasses, his eyes already showing impatience. "As for the period drama, Sarah has already signed the contract. I'll have Max look for other scripts for you. Bernice, don't try to threaten me. With just one word from me, no matter how much you badmouth Sarah online, I can have it deleted in a second."
