Chapter 526

Cassie ended the call, her body sinking into the softness of the bed.

Could Megan truly be alive? The thought seemed impossible, yet the woman in the photograph was unmistakably her. This was the woman whose name echoed in Joseph's dreams.

Nina had hinted at Megan's guilt, implying she was far from innocent. If Megan were indeed alive, she would be a force to be reckoned with.

Cassie's mind flashed back to Nina's warning from the previous day - "Be careful."

Megan? The revelation left Cassie reeling. Had Nina known all along that Megan was not dead? What else did Nina know?

And then there was Liam, who had also cautioned her. It seemed everyone was in the know, everyone except her.

Would Joseph return to Megan? The thought sent a sharp pang of pain through Cassie's heart, her hand instinctively moving to cradle her stomach.

Regardless of who Joseph had been before, he was now the father of her unborn children. Their child needed a father.

Cassie swiftly retrieved her phone, dialing Joseph's number with trembling fingers.

"I'm sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable."

What could Joseph be doing? Why was his phone switched off? Could he be with Megan?

Cassie's mind was a whirlwind of frantic thoughts. She dialed Walter's number, her voice trembling as she asked, "Why is Joseph's phone off?"

Walter, burning the midnight oil at his office, was taken aback. "Joseph... Joseph is in therapy at this hour. The doctor said not to disturb him."

"Therapy, with Dr. Nyasia?" Cassie questioned.

"Yes, the doctor said it's not good to delay treatment for too long. So he needs to prioritize it recently," Walter replied, hoping that Joseph's illness would be cured soon. The last thing they needed was for Cassie to discover that Dr. Nyasia was in fact, the supposedly deceased Megan.

Cassie fell silent for a moment before asking, "So, is Joseph staying downtown tonight?"

"Yes."

After ending the call, Cassie was filled with an overwhelming urge to leave and wait for Joseph downtown. However, she knew the Hernandez family would never allow her to leave. She regretted her decision to move into the Hernandez family mansion.

Meanwhile, Joseph walked into a bar filled with the sultry notes of a saxophone at 8:30 p.m. His eyes immediately found Megan, perched on a high stool at the bar. Dressed in a pure white gown, she was a radiant bloom in the darkness, shrouded in mystery.

"Weren't we supposed to be treating the illness? Why are we here?" Joseph questioned, settling into a chair nearby.

"Well, would you prefer a sterile hospital or a mysterious hotel?" Megan turned to him, a smile playing on her lips.

Joseph pursed his lips, dissatisfied with both options. "This place is the best, quiet and relaxing."

Just then, the bartender brought over two drinks. Megan slid one towards Joseph.

"You want me to drink?" Joseph asked, his eyebrows furrowing.

"You need to stay relaxed during the healing process." Megan gestured towards her heart and brain, "What does a psychiatrist do? Mainly treat these two. Medication can't fix your mentality."

Joseph silently sipped his drink.

Megan studied Joseph's face. Even in the dim light, his striking features were impossible to ignore. She was determined to win back his affections. "Joseph, can you spare the Zenith family?"

"Do you want to manage?"

"It's not that. I'm already swamped with work, and I don't have time to manage the Zenith family." Megan sighed heavily. "But my father's heart is weak, and Nina is in jail. He cares about the company the most. If the company goes under, I'm afraid he won't be able to handle it."

Joseph's eyes softened. "You haven't changed, but you've forgotten how he treated you all those years."

"I just did what a daughter should do and stayed true to my conscience." Megan sighed. "And my brother—he's already an adult and still jobless. I should guide him to change for the better."
