Chapter 1317 Are You Crazy?
A sudden thought zipped through her mind, but when she tried to grab it, her head pounded like a jackhammer. The photo in her hand slipped and hit the floor.
"Ms. Brooks," her assistant gasped, "Do you need to hit up the hospital?"
"Nah, just help me crash inside," Isabella groaned, her face ghostly pale.
The assistant hustled her into the lounge. Isabella flopped onto the bed, half-closing her eyes. "Send those hair strands back to Emerald Haven Island and get our doc to run a paternity test."
"Got it," the assistant, her long-time confidant, nodded right away.
In the parking lot, Robert had just seen David off and was about to head back upstairs when he spotted a distinguished middle-aged dude stepping out of the office.
Robert recognized that face from TV—it was definitely Aiden. He thought, 'What's Aiden doing here? Is he looking for Isabella? Aiden was Isabella's first love. Wouldn't seeing him jog her memory?' Robert felt a knot of unease.
Once upstairs, he quickly dialed Isabella's office secretary. This secretary was planted by Lars to keep tabs on Isabella but secretly took orders from him and David.
"Spill it, did Aiden come to see Isabella just now?" Robert demanded.
The secretary nodded, "Yeah, they chatted in the office for a bit. There were bodyguards outside, so I don't know what they talked about. But as soon as Aiden left, Isabella's headache went nuts. When I went in to bring her some warm water, I saw a few photos on her desk."
"What photos?" Robert asked, his anxiety spiking.
"Isabella's assistant was there, so I couldn't get too close. But I did see one of a young girl who looks a lot like Isabella."
Robert quickly pulled up a photo of Cassie online and showed it to her, "This one?"
"Yep, that's her," the secretary confirmed.
"Alright, you can go now," Robert dismissed her. After she left, he immediately called David, panic in his voice. "What do you think Aiden's up to with those photos? He left, and now Isabella's in so much pain she can barely move. Do you think she might remember something? Declan did treat her for a while."
"Probably not yet," David mused. "But Aiden must've done something. You said he had a few photos?"
"Yeah, I only saw one of Cassie."
David went quiet for a moment, then suddenly smirked. "I know whose photos Aiden had. He's not dumb. Cassie looks like Isabella and Aiden. It's normal for a kid to resemble their parents. But Olivia doesn't look like Aiden at all, and Cassie even has a bit of Luna in her."
"What do we do?" Robert was freaking out. "Isabella won't suspect us, will she?"
"Her mind's foggy, and her headaches are brutal. She probably won't suspect us yet, but she'll start digging. You need to convince Isabella to help me take down the Wit Group, and then... just get rid of her."
Robert felt a chill run down his spine. "Are you nuts? She is... she is..."
"That's why she can't leave Madison alive. Plus, she and Declan have always been at each other's throats. We can make it look like Declan did it. If Emerald Haven Island wants revenge, they'll go after the Wittelsbach family. And Declan? Losing Isabella would wreck him," David said, his voice cold.
Robert's fear grew with every word. 'David's a freaking devil,' he thought. 'Would he come for me next?'
"Scared, huh?" David chuckled. "From the moment I found you in prison and had you convince Isabella that Olivia was your kid, you were trapped. Oh, and since Isabella might start getting suspicious, I need to stir up some trouble for her and Cassie. We can't let them reunite too soon."
"What are you planning now?" Robert blurted out.
"To deepen the hatred between them, of course."
David hung up, leaving Robert shaking. Once this mess was over, he just wanted to grab a few billion and get the hell out of Madison. He didn't care about the Hernandez Group anymore.
That evening, Cassie picked up her kids from school and headed back to the Chapman family's villa.
Just as she was about to start cooking, her phone rang. It was Aiden's assistant. "Ms. Brooks, Mr. Chapman got hurt in a fire at Warehouse 36 today. He's in the hospital now."
Cassie was stunned. "How did the warehouse catch fire?"
"The cops said there was a package with alcohol in the warehouse. It had been there for a while, and with today's heat, the manager was smoking inside, and then..."
"I'm coming over right now."
Cassie hung up, and her kids looked at her with wide eyes.
"Grandpa got hurt. You two stay here. I can't take care of you both right now," she said gently.
Sophia was about to speak, but Oliver pulled her back. "Listen to Mommy. Don't make it harder for her. There are bad people out there who want to hurt her. Do you want to get kidnapped again?"
Sophia pouted. "Why do we keep having accidents? Is someone trying to hurt Grandpa too?"
Cassie bit her lip. She had her suspicions but didn't want to scare the kids.
At the hospital, Aiden was lying in bed with an IV. One of his legs was in a cast, looking pale.
"Dad, is your leg okay?" Cassie asked, her heart aching. He had looked so healthy just that afternoon.
"It's just a minor injury. The doc said the cast can come off in a month," Aiden said, trying to sound casual.
But Cassie was worried. "Dad, why was there alcohol in the warehouse? Is someone trying to hurt you? And the manager? How could he be smoking inside? You've always been strict about that. How did he even get hired?"
"I'm not sure," Aiden frowned. "I had strictly banned smoking in the warehouse."
"Dad, I think someone is trying to hurt you," Cassie interrupted. "Why else would the fire start when you were there? The manager might have been bribed."
Aiden was silent for a moment before saying, "It's normal to have enemies when the company is growing fast."
