Chapter 906 Did You Come to See Me
The hospital.
At the entrance of the emergency room, after Luna hung up the phone, her gaze could have killed Cassie.
"Look at what you've done. Before, Mr. Ford said he wanted to hold a board meeting next week. It sounds like he wants to take the chairman's position," Luna cursed.
Cassie glanced at Luna nonchalantly and answered, "That's inevitable. Someone like Mr. Ford, do you think he joined the Chapman family just to get dividends? That's impossible."
"You!" Luna fumed. "Cassie, are you doing this on purpose? Well, it makes sense. After all, your last name isn't Chapman. You don't care who the Chapman family belongs to. People like you only care about money."
"Exactly. Even if I were my dad's successor, when I went to the company, none of you respected me. I advised the shareholders not to form a joint venture with the Chamberlain family, but you wouldn't listen. So, I persuaded my dad to sell it. After all, you and your dad have been scheming to get Grandpa back to the Chapman family and have already conspired with the company's shareholders," Cassie stated.
"Now that my dad and I quit, we have nothing to do with the Chapman Group anymore. You should be happy," she then added.
Luna was frustrated; there was no way she could be happy. Aiden's health was not that good. Paul could suppress Aiden as long as he's around. If Mr. Ford came in, Paul wouldn't be able to stand a chance with his condition. Besides, Mr. Ford might not even consider Paul.
"Aiden, didn't you see? Grandpa fainted from anger just now." Luna had to turn her gaze to Aiden.
"If Henry becomes the chairman, he might die from anger. He is your father, after all."
"It's already sold. I can't possibly let Cassie go to jail," Aiden replied dismissively.
"Then let Cassie go to jail." one voice came through.
Margaret suddenly appeared, leaning on a cane.
"Mom..." Aiden began, but Margaret had already slapped him across the face.
"Are you trying to drive us crazy? Your father gave you the largest share of the company, so that you could sell it? He wanted you to manage the Chapman family well and make it flourish. Aiden, you can't do this." Margaret accused him with sadness and disappointment, "We had such high hopes for you. If we had known, we might as well have given the company to Atlas."
Aiden felt a chill, then replied, "Mom, have you forgotten what Atlas did to me? He and Vera."
"Atlas was seduced. Your brother is so innocent; he's never had a lot of relationships. Vera fooled him, and he felt inferior. He's had a hard time all these years. As his older brother, you should understand him more," Margaret said bitterly.
Aiden felt deeply hurt, but Cassie couldn't stand it anymore.
"Atlas had a hard time? My dad didn't? He married a wife who cheated on him for decades, and even the child he raised wasn't his. Have you ever thought about my dad's feelings? He was poisoned slowly by someone, and his health is still not good," Cassie argued.
"Paul knew Aiden's health was poor, which is why he returned to the Chapman family at such an old age," Margaret said angrily. "If you don't want to manage the company, you could give the shares to Atlas. There's no need to sell them to someone else. Are you that desperate for money?"
"Grandma, don't you understand? Aiden thinks Grandpa is blocking Cassie's path to the top." Luna instigated. "Last time, when Cassie came to the company, Grandpa didn't listen to her and agreed to cooperate with the Chamberlain family."
"Absurd! Is the Chapman family yours? Does your grandpa have to listen to you?" Margaret glared at Cassie with hatred. "You have no such right."
"Mom." Aiden was furious.
"What, are you going to argue with me over this illegitimate daughter?" Margaret snapped.
"Cassie is not an illegitimate daughter," Aiden retorted.
"You and Cassie's mother weren't married. Cassie is an illegitimate daughter. Someone like her doesn't deserve to be part of the Chapman family. If you insist on recognizing her as your daughter, then you are no longer my son." Margaret threatened directly.
"Dad is still in there being resuscitated. I don't want to argue with you." Aiden turned away, panting heavily. He was so angry that his weak body wobbled.
"Dad, please sit down for a moment." Cassie quickly helped Aiden to a seat. "I'll go downstairs and get you a bottle of water."
Luna mocked sarcastically, "Grandma hasn't even sat down yet, and here you are trying to please others. No wonder you take Aiden in so much."
After saying that, she turned and helped Margaret to a seat as well.
"At least you are sensible, unlike some people." Margaret shook her head, her dissatisfaction with Cassie reaching its peak.
Aiden's face turned red with anger. If it weren't for Paul still being resuscitated inside, he would have left immediately.
"Dad, it's okay. Grandpa and Grandma never really liked me anyway. After all, they didn't raise me. I never thought about returning to the Chapman family." Cassie comforted Aiden before turning to go downstairs to buy water.
In the VIP ward, Joseph lay on the hospital bed, receiving a saline drip.
His pale yet handsome face showed little expression, his eyes devoid of spirit, as if he had lost all attachment to this world. He exuded an aura of desolation. Even his usual strong, sharp, and fierce demeanor had vanished. At this moment, he looked like a lost and helpless man.
Nathaniel couldn't help but feel pity. "Mr. Hernandez, you should eat something. You haven't eaten anything since the surgery yesterday. No matter how strong your body is, you can't keep going like this."
Joseph pressed his thin lips together, saying nothing, not even in the mood to speak. He had never hated his mouth as much as he did now. Why wasn't he mute? If he were, he wouldn't have said so many hurtful things to Cassie.
At that moment, a familiar figure flashed by the door.
Joseph sat up abruptly, pulled out the needle from his hand, and chased after it.
Nathaniel was startled and called out, "Mr. Hernandez, your hand is bleeding. You just had surgery, and you can't move around. The wound will reopen."
But Joseph seemed not to hear, walking faster and faster until he finally caught up with the slender figure ahead.
"Cassie," Joseph called out.
Cassie, who was walking forward, was suddenly grabbed by a force from behind, and Joseph's hoarse voice rang out. She turned around to see Joseph's eyes filled with pain. He was wearing a white hospital gown, but it didn't detract from his handsome appearance. On the contrary, it made the usually strong man look weak, like a little puppy in need of care and protection.
"Did you come to see me?" Joseph's gaze locked onto her greedily, his tone filled with rare caution and flattery. "My ward is back there."
