Chapter 780
Cassie grabbed Sophia and, noticing her tears, shot Joseph an angry glare. "We didn't provoke you. Why are you yelling at us? Go scold Megan instead. You always yell at me. You go ahead. I'll take Sophia to play. We don't need you with us."
After saying that, Cassie walked into the amusement park, holding Sophia.
Feeling abandoned, Joseph clenched his fists in frustration, watching Sophia and Cassie getting farther away. He quickly caught up with his long strides, "Sophia is my niece. Even if she plays, she plays with me."
"Uncle Joseph, I don't want you to play with me. You're too mean." Sophia refused without hesitation.
Feeling aggrieved, Joseph had to speak softly, "Sophia, I didn't mean to just now..."
"Uncle Joseph, you shouldn't apologize to me but to Aunt Cassie," Sophia said seriously.
Glancing at Cassie, Joseph saw her continuing to walk ahead, completely ignoring him.
Sophia's words of encouragement to Joseph were uplifting, "The teacher said that recognizing one's mistakes and courageously apologizing is what truly makes a person."
Feeling deeply frustrated, Joseph, inspired by Sophia's innocent look, felt that he wouldn't be a true man unless he apologized.
Joseph sighed quietly, grabbed Cassie's arm, lowered his voice, and said, "I'm sorry. I've been in a bad mood lately; I spoke too loudly earlier. Please don't be mad at me."
Cassie, feeling annoyed, turned back to glare at Joseph. At that moment, Sophia spoke again, "Aunt Cassie, forgive him. Uncle Joseph is actually quite pitiful. He's this old and still heartbroken. Just look at my dad. He's younger than Joseph and already has a child as old as me."
Unseen, Joseph felt a deep stab of discomfort.
If only he hadn't accidentally pushed her away back then, their child would have been that big by now. But now, the bitterness in his heart was unspoken.
Seeing Joseph's discomfort, Cassie felt quite pleased, "Alright, since Sophia is speaking up for you, I won't be angry. But if you want to stay with us, speak less and pay more."
Following that, Cassie guided Sophia to the carousel, with Joseph trailing behind them. Cassie rode the carousel with Sophia while Joseph observed and paid for the ride.
Meanwhile, as Sophia and Cassie enjoyed the bumper cars, Joseph remained outside and paid for their tickets.
It was only when they decided to ride the Ferris wheel that Cassie asked Joseph to join Sophia, as she was afraid of heights.
“There's nothing to be afraid of on the Ferris wheel; I'm not scared at all," Sophia disagreed, insisting on sitting with Cassie and pulling Joseph in, too. In the small compartment carrying the three of them, Joseph sat on one side while Sophia and Cassie sat on the other.
As the Ferris wheel ascended, Cassie's legs went weak, gripping the railing tightly, too scared to look down.
As Joseph observed Cassie's frightened expression, he couldn't help but feel a sense of amusement. Despite knowing Cassie for a long time, he had never realized her fear of heights and her reluctance to ride the Ferris wheel. Suddenly, Joseph felt an urge to tease Cassie a little.
When the Ferris wheel reached its highest point, he intentionally shook it slightly. The compartment swayed gently, causing Cassie's face to turn pale and her body to tremble. In an effort not to alarm Sophia, Cassie crouched at the edge of her seat, curled up, and chattered her teeth.
