Chapter 1688 Accept the Fact That You and I Are Getting Married

In the evening, Elliott returned to the Miller family villa, seething with anger.

Laura was sitting cross-legged on the sofa, eating chips and looking at her phone. She had heard some things about the Miller family in the past few days. Seeing Elliott come back, she immediately sat up, "Elliott, how did the talks with Cascade Industries Group go in America these past few days? Is it quite troublesome? Has our family offended someone? I see Dad is so worried that he's losing hair by the handful."

Elliott looked at Laura's innocent face with particular helplessness, "There's a bit of progress. I'll resolve it as soon as possible."

"Okay, alright. I thought if it was tricky, I could ask Cassie for help," Laura mumbled. "Isabella is quite capable abroad. Even the CEO of Cascade Industries Group would have to show some respect."

Elliott's brow furrowed slightly. Some words were on the tip of his tongue, but he inexplicably held them back. "Cassie and Isabella don't get along well. Isabella has already helped a lot with the DreamDazzle Beauty Co. matter. The more we ask, the more uncomfortable Cassie will be. Besides, Cassie has already helped you a lot."

"I understand. I was just thinking if there was no other way, we can't just watch the Miller Group fall." Laura pouted worriedly.

"You didn't ask Derek for help, did you?" Elliott suddenly asked in a deep voice.

"No, Dad wouldn't let me. I understand what you all mean. But Derek brought it up himself. He said he would help us look into it, but it seems a bit tricky too."

"Let him focus on his studies. I've already found a solution."

Elliott said complicatedly.

"Really? You're amazing." Laura looked at him with admiration.

Elliott remained silent.

He really didn't want to say that his solution was to marry Julia to resolve the issue.

It was too humiliating.

His handsome face turned a bit colder, and he stopped looking at her, expressionless, as he walked upstairs.

Laura was baffled. She had praised him so sweetly. If it were Derek, he would have been over the moon. But Elliott, well, there's a reason he's single.

To this day, she couldn't understand what attracted women to Elliott besides his looks. Maybe Julia had poor taste.

The next day.

While having breakfast downstairs, Luke asked, "Laura said you have a solution. Is that true?"

"Yes, we've found a breakthrough with Cascade Industries Group," Elliott replied vaguely. "By the way, I've contacted the Penrose Family and canceled the engagement."

"What?" Rose was stunned for a moment before angrily asking, "Did the Penrose Family hear about the Miller Group's situation and cancel the engagement themselves?"

"I proposed it, and the Penrose Family agreed."

Elliott didn't mention the two stores to avoid upsetting his parents. After all, the stores were his private investments.

Luke remained silent, but Rose was furious, "Why did you cancel the engagement yourself? Do you not want to get married, or do you want to stay single forever?"

"Mom, if the Miller Group can't hold on, the Penrose Family wouldn't marry into our family anyway," Elliott interrupted calmly. "When I brought it up yesterday, Thalia readily agreed."

"I know the Penrose Family is opportunistic, but you just said the Miller family can hold on."

"Alright, if he doesn't get married, he doesn't get married," Luke suddenly interrupted. "This time, with the Miller Group in trouble, I've contacted Yosef several times. It's understandable that he couldn't help, but then he deliberately avoided my calls, clearly afraid I'd ask for money. No matter how good Isadora is, with parents like that, she won't bring peace of mind. She might even drag Isadora down."

Laura nodded in agreement, "If there's no profit, the Penrose Family wouldn't agree to Isadora marrying Elliott. If Elliott really liked Isadora, it would be different. But I don't think he does. There's no need to marry out of obligation."

"Since Elliott agreed to get married, are you worried there are no women in Whisperlyn City?" Luke reminded his wife. "You've been anxious for years. A little longer won't hurt."

Rose sighed, knowing they made sense, but she was still disappointed. She had thought she would finally see Elliott get married.

Elliott kept his head down, eating breakfast.

After finishing, Elliott drove to the civil court.

When he arrived, Julia also drove up. As she got out of the car, she revealed long legs wrapped in light-colored jeans, topped with a white printed shirt. Her rich, dark hair draped over her shoulders, and she had shed some of her businesslike sharpness and assertiveness, though her nobility was still unmistakable.

Elliott's eyes deepened, and he walked over with a cold face.

"Let's go." Julia turned and walked inside. After a few steps, she noticed Elliott hadn't followed. He stood a few steps away.

"When will you let go of the Miller Group?" Elliott looked at her coldly.

"After we get the marriage certificate, I'll make the call immediately," Julia looked back at him with bright eyes.

"Julia, don't regret this," Elliott said, slightly irritated by her gaze. "Even if you force me to marry you, I won't like you."

"That's fine. I just need you," Julia smiled slightly.

Elliott felt powerless, a feeling he only had when facing Julia.

"Let's go."

Julia took his arm.

They looked like an ordinary couple. Today wasn't a special day, so the hall wasn't crowded. Julia seemed to have made arrangements, and the staff, seeing them, weren't too surprised. They only stole a few glances at Julia and Elliott while stamping the documents.

Soon, the marriage certificate was issued.

Elliott felt a moment of disorientation when he saw the certificate in his hand.

During his time studying abroad, he had fantasized many times about getting a marriage certificate with her. Until he heard she was married, he knew it was impossible.

But he never expected that after so many years, things would come full circle.

He didn't want to think about it anymore and quickly stuffed the certificate into his pocket.

As he turned, he saw Julia looking intently at their wedding photo.

A wave of irritation surged in him. "What are you looking at? It's not your first marriage certificate."

Julia's arm stiffened. She slowly put away the certificate and asked, "Elliott, whether you like it or not, you have to accept that we're married. I hope you can keep your distance from other women in the future. I'm possessive and don't want to see my husband entangled with other women."

Elliott actually didn't like interacting with women privately. Some things didn't need her reminder; he wouldn't do them anyway. But hearing her words, he inexplicably retorted, "Julia, you who betrayed our relationship, what right do you have to control me?"
