Chapter 1158 Joseph Was in Trouble This Time
Everett had switched to a black short-sleeved shirt. His thick eyelashes and deep blue eyes were mesmerizing, and his sexy Adam's apple added to his allure. At twenty-one, he had a wild, untamed vibe that left women breathless.
Laura was stunned; she had never seen such a handsome guy.
Unlike Michael, Joseph, and Lucas, Everett had a different aura. He looked young and lacked mature steadiness, but his charm as a young man on the brink of adulthood was clear.
Michael noticed Laura staring at Everett, who had just shown up.
Feeling irritated, Michael suddenly stepped on Laura's foot.
"Who stepped on me?" Laura yelped in pain.
"Sorry, didn't mean to," Michael said, feigning innocence.
"You!" Laura started to say when Everett's deep, cello-like voice cut in, "Are these your friends?"
Cassie introduced, "Yes, these are my friends and..."
"Another friend," Laura quickly added.
Cassie and Michael went silent.
"Your friends are all very beautiful and handsome," Everett said with a smile.
"What are you doing here?" Cassie asked, changing the subject with a smile.
"I found out online about a great late-night snack spot here, so I came over. Didn't expect to run into you," Everett said, looking hopeful. "Can I join you?"
"Sure," Cassie said, feeling a warm, inexplicable pull towards his handsome face. "Here's the menu. Can you handle spicy food?"
"I can handle a bit of spice, but I don't know what's good. Any recommendations?" Everett asked, looking at Cassie.
"Lobster and squid," Cassie suggested earnestly.
Watching this, Michael broke into a cold sweat for Joseph.
He thought, 'Everett's gaze towards Cassie seems off.'
He quietly took out his phone to snap a picture for Joseph, but Laura quickly stopped him with a warning look.
Michael put his phone away.
After ordering, Everett asked, "By the way, I don't know your name yet."
Cassie started to say her name but then thought it was too well-known. She said, "I'm Chloe Chapman. And you?"
Cassie's dad was Aiden Chapman, so using the last name Chapman wasn't a big deal.
Laura and Michael gave her strange looks.
Everett didn't notice; his eyes were all on Cassie's face. She had light makeup on during the day, but now she was bare-faced and still very beautiful.
For some reason, Everett felt a sense of familiarity with Cassie, and the more he looked at her, the more his heart raced.
In Neya City, many women had pursued him, but he was never interested.
"I'm Everett Wittelsbach."
"Wittelsbach?" Cassie was surprised. "That's a rare last name."
"Yeah, my dad's not from Madison," Everett said. "I'm here to pay my respects to my grandparents."
"Looks like you'll be leaving Madison soon," Michael suddenly cut in.
"No, I'm waiting for my mom to come over." Everett smiled. "We're planning to buy a house here. My mom's been abroad for a long time, and we plan to settle here temporarily, living both domestically and abroad."
Michael thought, 'Oh no! Joseph's rival isn't leaving anytime soon.'
The late-night snacks started arriving.
Since Everett wasn't familiar with the food, Cassie wrapped a burrito for him.
Laura and Michael were both shocked.
"Thanks," Everett said, eating the burrito.
After learning how to do it, Everett immediately wrapped one for Cassie. "Look, I got it. Here's one for you."
"You can eat it yourself," Cassie said.
"Are you rejecting me?" Everett's eyes blinked with disappointment, making Cassie's heart soften.
"No, thank you." Cassie quickly took the burrito from him.
Michael and Laura were quite uncomfortable with the meal.
After eating, Everett went to the restroom on the second floor to wash his hands.
Laura said, "How did you meet such a handsome guy? It's so unfair. Why are all the handsome guys around you? I'm so jealous."
Michael, her husband, gripped his fork tightly in anger.
He thought, 'Come on! Am I invisible? What's there to be jealous of? Everett's just handsome, but I'm more handsome than him.'
"I was buying flowers in the morning and saw him getting robbed, so I helped out," Cassie explained.
"Oh my God, you met a handsome guy like that? If I had known, I would've gone with you. Even though I'm pregnant, I can still handle a few punks," Laura said, looking regretful.
Michael closed his eyes, almost breaking his fork.
Cassie suddenly looked at Michael with a bit of sympathy and cleared her throat. "Let's eat."
"You should keep your distance from Everett. You have Joseph," Michael reminded Cassie. "Joseph can't bear to lose you again."
Cassie was stunned for a moment, then smiled. "You're overthinking it. I see him as a younger brother. For some reason, he gives me a very familiar and warm feeling."
Laura and Michael exchanged a rare glance, thinking, 'Oh no! Joseph is in trouble this time.'
