Chapter 750

Joseph could tell from her impatient tone that his discomfort was suddenly intensifying. "I just wanted to give you a heads up. Tyler isn't a good guy. He's got smelly feet, and he's into men. He's only getting close to you because he sees you as the Chapman family heir. Don't kid yourself into thinking he genuinely likes you."
"What's it to you?" Cassie's words choked his throat painfully.
"I'm just trying to prevent you from being deceived and embarrassed because you're my ex-wife."
"Thanks. I don't think Tyler has smelly feet, and whether he likes men or not, I'll find out when I take him home tonight."
After Cassie finished speaking, she hung up again. In a fit of anger, Joseph slammed the landline down.
Nathaniel, who was about to enter the room, looked embarrassed. Tyler didn't have smelly feet at all, and he didn't like men.
Joseph wouldn't miss a beat of slinging mud at his rival.
After Joseph's outburst, he started coughing violently due to anger.
"Joseph, I think you should consult a professional doctor and get some medication; Cassie is not a doctor after all," Nathaniel thought. Joseph showed no signs of improvement, and his face was all red.
With an annoyed glare, Joseph finally spat out, "Bring Lucas to me."
Nathaniel was speechless. Lucas wasn't his doctor.
He called Lucas, who was just as dumbfounded but eventually showed up with some run-of-the-mill cold meds, "Joseph, would it be the death of you to dial up the family doc yourself?"
Joseph opened the medicine, looked at the instructions, took a few pills, and hoarsely said, "I don't want to get married."
Lucas looked puzzled, "What's upsetting you now?"
"I don't know," Joseph weakly leaned back in his chair. His mind was feverish now, but probably because he was sick, he knew what he really wanted, "I might have really changed my mind. I don't love Megan as much anymore. I keep thinking about Cassie now."
Lucas frowned at him, "I've told you before to think it through. Later, you divorced Cassie. I thought you had figured it out. Joseph, you have to understand. There's no regret medicine in the world. Your engagement with Megan is already public knowledge. The hotel and the date are all set, and invitations have been sent out. If you suddenly cancel the engagement, what will Megan do for the rest of her life? Do you want to drive her to death?"
A hint of powerlessness and regret flashed in Joseph's eyes.
"Besides, she was hurt abroad before. You've been with her for years, and now you don't want her; how is she supposed to cope in the future?"
Lucas glanced at him, "This is your own choice. Three years ago, you insisted on reconciling with Megan; no one forced you."
Joseph suddenly fell silent. He didn't understand either. Three years ago, he was disgusted with Cassie, and three years later, he was attracted to her again.
"Actually, I think maybe three years ago, I didn't dislike Cassie that much; it's just that some memories suddenly faded at that time. Otherwise, I wouldn't have given her such a valuable necklace."
"You didn't really dislike her that much. If it weren't for Joyce's death, maybe you wouldn't have separated."
After Lucas casually finished speaking, he stood up and reminded, "Joseph, you have to bear the consequences of your choices."
Joseph sat in silence for an hour.
Perhaps he had understood some things too late.
