Chapter 1456 Bernice is With You Now?

Lucas grabbed his phone and called Max right away. "Hey, make sure Bernice skips any outdoor events for a while."

"Why?" Max sounded confused. "She's got a big brand event outside next week, and the contract's already signed."

"Cancel it. It's too cold," Lucas said, like it was no big deal.

Max was floored. "Lucas, canceling will cost us millions in breach fees, and it'll hurt Bernice's rep."

"Then tell them to have her wear more clothes," Lucas said after a pause.

Max was at a loss for words. "Aren't all female artists like this? Even when Sarah was your fiancée, you never said anything."

"Just do it," Lucas snapped and hung up.

Half an hour later, Bernice texted him: [I'm done with the IV.]

Lucas was talking to a patient's family, so he sent Bernice the address and told her to come over.

Bernice showed up in five minutes, wearing a mask, and stood at the door watching Lucas in his scrubs, talking to the patient's family. The patient had a severe case of cancer, and one of the family members was crying, begging Lucas to save them.

Lucas gently comforted them.

Gabriella, who was watching, said, "I didn't expect Mr. Nelson to be so compassionate. He's a good doctor."

Bernice stayed quiet. Lucas was a good doctor, good to his patients, good to Megan, and even good to Sarah.

Even to the women Lucas had fooled around with, he always gave them enough money.

Lucas just wasn't good to her.

After he finished up, Lucas walked over. "Let's go, I'll take you to see Megan. But don't pull a Laura."

"Don't worry, Michael's not my husband, so I don't feel like hitting her." She just wanted to kill Megan.

Lucas seemed pleased with Bernice's response.

Bernice followed him to the back inpatient department. Megan was in the innermost VIP room, with a row of bodyguards at the door, security was tight.

Seeing Lucas arrive, a bodyguard went in to inform someone, and soon let them in.

In the fancy ward, Megan lay on the bed with bandages on her hands, her face swollen and bruised. Michael was sitting beside her, peeling an apple.

When they walked in, Michael looked up, surprised. "Lucas, is Bernice with you now?"

He didn't dare call Bernice Lucas's girlfriend; he knew Lucas usually just played around with women.

Bernice quickly denied it, "No, I'm just curious about what kind of woman is more important to you than your wife and kid, to the point where you don't even want your family."

Michael knew about her relationship with Laura. At that moment, a lot of thoughts crossed his mind, and he quickly said, "Did Laura send you to find me? You're mistaken, it's Laura who has always misunderstood me and wants to divorce me. She even beat Megan like this. If it weren't for Laura, I wouldn't have to come to the hospital every day."

After just one sentence with Michael, Bernice really didn't want to talk to him anymore.

Bernice totally got why Laura wanted out of the marriage without giving Michael a second chance. The guy just couldn't see the problem with shacking up with another woman every day. How would Laura feel about that?

Megan spoke up weakly, "Ms. Ramsey, are you Laura's friend? Please talk to her. There's no need for a divorce. I'm leaving for abroad next week."

"Next week?" Bernice asked, "Where to?"

"Country B," Megan sighed. "I probably won't come back."

"Country B, huh? I've heard it's tough for rich folks to get in there. Must've cost Mr. Jude a pretty penny to get you in," Bernice said with a slight smile.

Megan's face went pale, and Michael caught the sarcasm, frowning. "Lucas, why'd you bring her here?"

Lucas didn't answer. He just pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and started smoking.

Michael reminded him, "Lucas, this is a hospital. You can't smoke here. Don't you know that as a doctor?"

"Yeah, I know. That's why I've been holding back outside. Finally found a spot," Lucas replied lazily, his attitude making Bernice glance at him again.

Megan bit her lip. "Lucas, we've known each other since we were kids. I really hope we can be like before. Even if we can't go back, I hope you and Michael stay well."

"Megan, you shouldn't have come back after you left," Lucas said, exhaling smoke. "Your return has messed up my friendship with Michael."

Megan's eyes welled up, and Michael couldn't take it. "She's leaving next week. We've all known each other for a long time. Why blame her for everything? She's suffering too."

Lucas sneered but stayed quiet. Bernice asked, "When is Ms. Ray getting discharged? Her hand injury doesn't seem that bad."

"Not that bad?" Michael snapped, "It'll leave scars for years. It hurts so much at night she can't sleep and needs IVs."

"I've never been burned, so I wouldn't know," Bernice shrugged. "I'm going to the bathroom."

She went into the bathroom, took out an ointment from her bag, squeezed some into the toothpaste, and then pretended to flush the toilet before coming out.

"Let's go," Lucas said, finishing his cigarette. He didn't want to stay any longer, mainly because he couldn't stand Megan's act and Michael being played.

"Ms. Ray, I was just curious about what you look like, to be able to steal my good friend's man. Now I've seen it, and you look pretty average," Bernice said, humiliating her before following Lucas out, ignoring Megan's grim expression.

Just as they reached the door, they ran into Sarah. She was wearing a cashmere coat but looked a bit haggard, like she hadn't been doing well. When she saw Lucas, she got excited, but then stiffened awkwardly when she saw Bernice beside him.

However, Sarah had learned her lesson recently and instead looked at Lucas with teary eyes, asking, "Lucas, when will you have time to come home for a meal?"

Lucas smirked. "You really know how to phrase things. We haven't been in touch for a long time, don't make it sound like we're still close."
