Chapter 312
"Cassie quickly reacted, steering the car down the slope as it picked up speed without brakes. A Bentley emerged on the narrow road. Without hesitation, she zoomed by it.
The driver of the Bentley was startled. ""Liam, is that person crazy? That car is hitting speeds of 150 or 160!""
Liam glanced up to see a white sports car hurtling down the road like a gust of wind, rounding bends with barely a tap on the brakes—speeds he wouldn't dare to reach, even on a racetrack.
""The car's in trouble; follow it,"" he instructed.
The driver pursued desperately, both shocked to see the sports car reaching nearly 200 mph on the mountainous path. Just as the car seemed on the edge of flipping, Cassie decisively steered onto an under-construction muddy track, and with a loud thud, the right side of her car slammed into a tree.
Liam rushed out and opened the car door, where an airbag had deployed, revealing a slender woman enshrouded within, unconscious but with no apparent injuries.
""Cassie..."" he muttered, recognizing the stunningly pale beauty. He and the driver quickly moved her and headed to the nearest hospital.
Soon after, a panic-stricken Leo arrived. Liam tried to reassure him. ""Uncle Leo, don't worry. Cassie is smart and decisive. She maintained control of the curves for a long time. She even drove into a construction site to slow down, hitting the tree on the passenger side on purpose. She's unconscious, but there are no visible wounds; the impact might have just knocked her out.""
""That's a relief."" Leo finally exhaled, thanking Liam with genuine gratitude. ""Liam, I can't thank you enough for today. I won't forget this kindness.""
""Don't mention it. I was just doing what needed to be done.""
About half an hour later, the medics confirmed Liam's earlier statement. Cassie had fainted due to a concussion from the physical jolt to her body and head, but fortunately, there were no other injuries.
Since Liam had to return to his company for the morning's business, he left for work as soon as he knew Cassie was stable.
On the way, the driver remarked, ""Liam, do you think someone tampered with her car?""
Liam chuckled softly; the failure of brakes on a sports car worth over two million dollars wasn't exactly subtle.
The driver sighed with amazement, ""I've never seen anyone walk away from a crash on a curve with such light injuries. Most women would be terrified out of their wits, probably ending up with the car tumbling down a cliff. But Miss Brooks has shown remarkable poise and daring. This makes an old driver like me feel rather inadequate.""
""Yeah."" Liam tapped his fingers on his knee, his thoughts drifting. He had seen her a few days ago at the Hernandez family gathering. Back then, she seemed nothing more than a beautiful but empty-headed ornament, but today's events had totally dazzled him.
He had thought that someone like Joseph was only after her beauty.
What would Joseph's reaction be if he learned about her accident?

At noon, Liam headed to the company's dining area.
The executives dined on a different floor from the staff.
As he entered the private dining room, he saw Joseph, impeccably dressed, striding down the hallway, his handsome features meticulously cold and detached. He was flanked by several eager executives who trudged behind him, briefing him on performance figures."
