Chapter 1797 Are you Bernice?

"Pretty good, huh?" Nina said calmly. "You hate me, you want to kill me, but you can't do anything about it. You still have to share your earnings with me every year. How great is that? If you mess up, I can publicly criticize you in the company and accuse you of not making profits for us shareholders."

Lucas was both angry and amused.

With that statement, he realized he had lost this round again.

He used to think being the CEO of the Nelson Group was pretty cool, but now, hearing her say it, he felt like he was just working to make money for her.

Sure, he made most of the money, but he worked his brain off every day, while Nina did nothing and still got paid just by staying at home.

He was almost envious of her.

But he couldn't bear to give up the power he held.

At that moment, the waiter brought their food.

Nina picked up her knife and fork and started cutting the lamb chops. She ate quickly but not ravenously, giving off an air of elegance.

"Eat so fast, you'll choke," Lucas lazily reminded her.

"I'm eating fast because I want to leave sooner. Seeing you is quite nauseating," Nina said bluntly.

Lucas's knife scraped a long, harsh line across the plate, making a grating sound.

He squinted maliciously, "Then when I had sex with you, wasn't that even more nauseating? Too bad, I enjoyed it. I still remember the feeling. Even if you were drugged, I clearly remember your ecstatic expression. Maybe I'll paint a picture for you someday; I'm quite good at it."

Nina's knife and fork stopped cutting.

Her beautiful face darkened slightly, and she felt a wave of nausea rise in her throat.

Seeing this, Lucas laughed and began to enjoy his food. "I'll start painting when I get back."

"Go ahead, paint it. Just remember, that expression was only because of the drugs," Nina coldly reminded him. "As long as you don't feel ashamed, I don't care."

Lucas fell silent.

After gritting his teeth, Lucas chuckled softly, "Bernice, we actually met the wrong way. If I hadn't forced you back then, and we had dated normally like regular people, maybe I would have fallen in love with you."

"I don't believe you. You don't understand love, and you won't fall in love with anyone."

Nina finished eating, wiped her mouth, and stood up. "I'm done. You take your time."

"You still haven't answered my initial question. Who exactly are you?" Lucas's voice came from behind, "Or, you can simply answer me this: Are you Bernice?"

Nina glanced back at him deeply, didn't answer, and left without looking back.

Lucas leaned back in his chair, his eyes fixed on the dish in front of him.

He recalled what Nina had said earlier: Do you really not remember at all?

"Mr. Nelson," Thaddeus approached, "Bernice has left. The two bodyguards with her seem quite formidable, probably veterans."

"I figured," Lucas said thoughtfully.

Thaddeus was puzzled, "I really don't know where Bernice found such people. And those who kidnapped Megan earlier, they don't seem ordinary either."

Lucas's heart stirred, "Investigate Reborn. I need to know everything about this person, her background, her earliest appearances, and if anyone has ever captured her true face abroad."

"I heard she's very mysterious, only appearing occasionally with a mask and sunglasses."

"As long as you're willing to spend money and time, I don't believe we can't find out," Lucas's eyes darkened.

Thaddeus said, "You suspect she's not the real Reborn. Actually, I find it quite unbelievable too. Her background doesn't match Reborn's at all."

"Yes, I think so too. Get me all the information on Bernice from these years, including the movies and TV shows she's acted in. More than her not being Reborn, I feel she doesn't seem like the real Bernice."

Lucas said in a low voice, "Also, keep a close watch on Bernice. I need to know her next move."

"Do you think she might team up with the board members against you?" Thaddeus speculated worriedly.

"I don't know."

This answer left Thaddeus stunned. It was the first time he realized there were people and things Lucas couldn't see through.

Downstairs.

After getting in the car, Sofia said, "After you went to eat, Efren and Oscar found an excuse to get my phone number. I guess they're dissatisfied with Lucas but don't dare to act, so they want to team up with you."

"A bunch of cowards. They just want to use me to disrupt the Nelson Group and then reap the benefits," Nina said coldly.

"And you?"

"Occasionally having a meal isn't impossible. After all, I need to use them to get into the board. But I'm not interested in taking the lead; my ambitions lie elsewhere," Nina said indifferently.

Sofia laughed, "Of course. You already have ten percent of the Nelson Group's shares. Recently, you invested heavily in one of the Nelson Group's new competitors, Rainbow Children's Hospital. Now you're making money from both sides. In a few years, your assets might surpass Lucas's. The people at the Nelson Group probably never saw that coming."

Nina said nothing, her face devoid of any smile, just looking out the window.

No matter how much money she made, could it bring her parents back? No, it couldn't.

As she pondered, her phone rang.

Cassie called her, "Should I call you Bernice or Reborn? You're the one hiding the deepest. You quietly became a shareholder of the Nelson Group. Tell me, what else are you hiding from us?"

"Sorry," Nina's voice carried an apology.

She trusted Cassie, but she didn't trust Joseph.

She had to be cautious with her plans for the Nelson Group. Any slight leak could lead to failure.

So she kept it from Cassie and Laura.

"You don't need to apologize. I can understand. If I were you, I'd do the same," Cassie laughed. "I always thought I was your good friend and knew you well. Now I realize I don't. I have so many questions. Given your background, it's impossible for you to be Reborn. Can you tell me about your money and your identity?"

"I've always kept things from you. Aren't you afraid I'm using you?" Nina asked softly.

"You haven't really used us for anything, have you?" Cassie teased, speaking openly. "The first time I saw you in court, I felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity. I might not have told you this, but sometimes I feel like we knew each other in a past life, maybe even as good friends."
